A picture perfect autumn day here in Oregon. All the trees are at their peak of color, the sky was clear and blue, and the river was calm. That is I-84 in the photo which travels from Portland, Oregon to Echo, Utah. The I-84 runs adjacent to the Columbia River for over 80 miles. I am shooting from Crown Point which overlooks the river with great views to the east and west.
Early morning in the northern section of the Bisti wilderness /New Mexico.

This time it was our turn to get Trina and Jackie up at the break of dawn to view the Columbia River Gorge from Crown Point.

This picture was shot on a tripod with three exposures (-2..0..+2EV). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tonemapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. Unsharp Mask to increase detail on the landscape and the rocks.
This was shot along one of the stops along Highway 84 to Multnomah Falls. You can see Vista House on Crown Point in the distance on the right. The view of the Columbia Gorge is spectacular from this view point.

Crown Point on a dense cloudy day, before our major gorge fire in Oregon, saved. Crown Point is historically know as Thor's Heights or Thor's Crown. The Vista House is an observatory for views miles down the Columbia River.
This day Vista House was under construction so private road & parking lot were closed; we were unable to visit. This shot was taken miles away from a look out cliff called Women's Forum. ~ From my archives, confinement makes one enjoy our memories.
Thanks for your visits, appreciated it!

There are many more awesome shots out there of this view, but I finally found one I did that I liked a lot with a little processing...
View East at sunrise from near the Vista House on Crown Point along the Columbia River Gorge Historic Highway near Corbett, Oregon.
Thanks for dragging me out there, Larry
Oregon view of Crown Point, Vista House and Columbia River, wonderfully seen from the "Woman's Forum" viewpoint. It was a warm yet windy gusts 40-50 mph. Holding on to a camera wasn't easy.
The orange color at Vista house is a barrier put up due to an idiot driver who sped through the parking lot hitting the historic iconic stonewall landing in the the lower parking lot!
It will be hard to replace! In the meantime great visit.
Thanks for your warm visit & comments. Have a great week!
This was taken many years ago and I have reworked it.. This is one of the Historic places along the old Historic Columbia River Highway 30... Happy Windows Wednesday, Everybody!!
A stormy day visit to our local iconic Vista House! The stain glass windows caught the clouds and sky...
This is located on top of the famous Crown Point a National Natural Landmark. A noteworthy architectural feature is the observation building encircled by the scenic old Columbia River Highway. The Vista House was built in 1916 to provide a vantage point and rest stop for motorists. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.seen along the highway.
This “comfort station” a rest stop like no other, featuring marble floors, stained glass windows, — and, of course, a stunning view. In the words of The Oregonian, it was “the finishing achievement for the greatest highway in America.”
The octagonal building houses a museum, gift shop and interpretive display of historic and geologic points of interest in the Gorge.

Wow! Thanks to all of you so grateful and excited this made Flickr Explore 5/24 #365 ~ Super hugs and appreciation to you all!
The historic Vista House museum and memorial to Oregon Pioneers has been sitting for over 100 years on Crown Point, 700+ feet above the Columbia River.
The Vista House is a 55 foot high structure opened in 1918 as a "comfort station" for travelers on the Columbia River Highway. It is perched on a rocky promontory almost 700 feet above the Columbia River. It has glazed tiles on the roof and stained glass windows.
Happy Saturday Stairs!
A few hours available to go and do some tourism during a business trip in Portland.
Oregon has a lot to offer, but the distances are a deal breaker, so we had to visit what was around and we visited the Columbia River Gorge. Not bad, but the main touristic point of the state, Multnomah falls, was closed due to a recent fire.
The crown jewel of the Columbia River Gorge just celebrated it's centennial on May the 5th as a resting place for intrepid travelers. It was placed on crown point as “an observatory from which the view both up and down the Columbia could be viewed in silent communion with the infinite.” Such an observatory would also be a fitting memorial to “the trials and hardships of those who had come into the Oregon country.” And it could “serve as a comfort station for the tourist and the travelers of America’s greatest highway.”
Samuel Lancaster, Assistant Highway Engineer for Multnomah County in 1913
~~Chanticleer Point is a geographical landmark on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. It is the first notable overlook encountered traveling east on the Historic Columbia River Highway. It is a typical location from which to take photos of the gorge featuring Crown Point prominently. It overlooks Rooster Rock State Park.~~

Captured this with one RAW shot at 0 EV. Decided not to use the -2 and +2 EV shots. Processed file in Photoshop CS6. Increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Topaz DeNoise to reduce noise. Topaz Clarity to increase color and contrast.
Stayed for sunset yesterday and caught the almost full Wolf Moon rising above Crown Point at Columbia River Gorge. Actual moon and position in this scene. One RAW shot at 0 EV exposure to keep the dark mood in the scene. Then I headed down to do some light trails around Vista House. Happy Wolf Moon hunting!

This would have been a beautiful sunset picture of Crown Point if only it hadn’t been snowing. And I’m sure that’s an informative interpretive sign below the trees. The old, narrow, windy road going up there is probably very scenic too but the snow and ice on the road had all my attention. I was surprised to only pass one car flipped over in the ditch next to the road. Fortunately no one seemed too banged up. I wasn’t planning to go back the next day but I’m glad I did. That’s the next picture.

The Base Of Bulwagga Bay. As the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train passed through Crown Point, New York, the sun was already beginning to set behind the Adirondack Mountains. This was the first time that the train had visited the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad in New York State in 3 years, having been suspended during the pandemic. Bulwagga Bay adjoins Lake Champlain, but both sides are in the State Of New York. The train will soon arrive in Port Henry, New York to be there as night falls, with live musical performances by Lindsay Ell and JoJo Mason.
