A scarce wetland specialist butterfly, found in a string of isolated colonies in countless small bogs, from central Wales to Orkney (nicked from Jeremy Thomas).

UK BAP: Priority status

I was warned to take my wellies, which I did. But I forgot them when I left the car. Spent the day with very soggy feet, socks and trail shoes. Hard graft, but it was fun...

...and yes, couldn't believe my luck when I found this individual sitting openly on this bracken frond after searching for 5 hours for a really clean shot; the more so as it didn't immediately flit off.
