whoever said being tidy is a good thing... well I beg to differ! I cleaned up my bedroom yesterday, especially my cross trainer, with all good intentions of putting it to good use today. during the night I got up to take my little man to the loo. i kept the lights off cause our eyes were accustomed to the dark and, when i was on my way back to bed, i stubbed my little toe on the now uncluttered, but also uncushioned, crosstrainer. Agony was not the word! it's the first time i've had a blood blister since i was a kid, my nail went black and my toe swelled up to nearly twice the size. both my hubby and myself are of the belief that i've either broken or fractured the poor thing. silver lining is that rob had the day off work today so could take my little man to nursery and back, and all i had to manage was a couple of quick shots and lots of bed rest!
now my hubby is worried that this may have put me off tidying for good ;-D

Well, I'm finally recovered from surgeries on both hands and both elbows, now it's time to get back in shape. Figured I'd treat myself by replacing my worn out old New Balances with some new Nikes.
I decided to give running a try a couple of months ago, using the excellent Couch-to-5K Running Plan. I found a pair of running shoes in the closet that I bought back in high school but haven't worn since then. They were comfortable enough for my short runs, and I didn't want to buy a new pair of shoes until I was sure I was going to stick with running.
My new exercise routine has been working well, and I'm making fast improvement, so I went to The Running Revolution in Campbell, where I got great personalized service and a nice new pair of shoes.
I went into the store with my old shoes. While the woman helping me was in the back selecting some shoes, a guy who I thought also worked there said, "Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen those ASICS crosstrainers! I think they made those about 14 years ago." I said I guessed that was about right. When the woman came back, I told her what the guy had said about my ancient shoes. She said, "Oh, he's the ASICS sales rep." He then told me he knew the shoes were from 14 years ago because that's when he started working for the company.
My new shoes are by ASICS, too. Sadly, I didn't get a discount for my longtime brand loyalty.

I'm slowly easing back into a gym routine (this is only day 3). I know if I complain about being out of shape, I will catch grief from some of you... So I maybe I should clarify that I'm not in the "condition" I feel I should be. Today I did 4.5 miles on the ellipical crosstrainer and then did chest exercises. Yesterday was 4 miles on the elliptical and then back and shoulders. The day before was just 4 miles on the elliptical. Like I said... I'm easing back into this.
For some school project. After doing Strength from Insanity for the first time again in months!

This reminded me of when I was a sophmore in Highschool. I had my first girlfriend, Lisa Redfern. She had the experience of a 30 year old in a 14 year old's body. Enough said.
Anyway. She and her girlfriends would sit at lunch and exchanges notes with each other which they had written earlier in class that same day. This was the 1980 equivilent of texting. It looks like not much has changed in 30 years.
I recall how bewilderd I was watching these girls all swap notes and then sit back and read them all the while not talking to each other. Meanwhile Tim Dropchuck (yes his real name) and my old buddies were sitting three tables over laughing at me and making whip/cat sounds.
Hey, i was getting laid and they were looking at Playboys so I did not care how much abuse they gave me.
Well my New Year's Resolution is not to join a gym or anything like that. In fact I've been running a couple of times a week for a few months now. Never done a timed race though, and I do need to sign up for my first 1/2 marathon soon, in case it fills up!
Also, day one and I'm skirting the rules. I framed this, set the camera settings how I wanted (lost the sunset light in the process), and gave the camera as a friend to act as a "glorified tripod".

The little pirates figured out how to pass the mosquito net. I guess, they've watched me going in and out and now they copy the technique.
Fuzzy (photo) didn't feel like going out again and romped in my 3 m ficus binnendijkii plant, inspected the lamps, various sideboards and tables, threw some deco to the ground, had a little gym-session on the crosstrainer (maybe Grubby told her, that she's fat?) and was not stressed at all.
After more than 10 minutes, she left the apartment, sitting down next to the door, waiting for a treat. Thankfully none of them dropped any poop during their excursion. They're usually quite good at that.

Trying to keep fit by spending at least one hour in the gym about 3 times a week.
I usually spend 20 - 30 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes of stretches, weights etc. The first 10 minutes on the treadmill is at 5.7 klms per hour on grade 5, then for the next 8 - 10 minutes I increase to 6 klms per hour at grade 10, by then I am starting to struggle so bring it back down to 5.7 klms at grade 5 until I am finished.
When we lived in Australia we both did a lot of walking, in fact we walked to work and from work each day, plus we had 43 stairs in our home and we were up them about 15 - 20 times a day......so I had my fair share of exercise. But here in Singapore with the heat and high humidity, we don't do near as much walking as we should. We walk our two dogs about 5 times a day, but we are only out for about 10 - 15 minutes and of course we need to stop at each tree or post!!!
This year as well as being in the pool every morning I have decided to spend time at the gym......yes, I have a personal trainer once a week and his name is Lewis. He keeps me motivated and sends messages to me each day wanting to know what I have done for the day or how am I feeling, I dare not tell a lie!!!
