two children stand on a hill. a signpost points in two directions.
the sign is a fact of wood and metal. it offers a choice of paths.
behind them, a cloud stretches across the sky, a third path, belonging to no one.
they are silhouettes, simple shapes against an overwhelming amount of light.
childhood is a series of such hills. you arrive at the top, and you must choose a way down.
What was yesterday really like? How simple was that simpler time? There’s a place where history comes to life and you’re part of the experience. It’s Crossroads Village, our one-of-a-kind collection of restored 19th century buildings, amusement rides and authentic narrow-gauge railroad. Here you’ll see what life “way back when” was all about.

These four Elk bulls came bounding down this back road after being chased out of the woods by the dominate male. They stopped the minute they spotted us. Always a thrilling experience!

This lone farmhouse sits in an incongruous field at the foot of the hill topped by the 'Hohensalzburg Fortress' just outside the very center of Salzburg. Anyone who knows the story of how this little idyllic patch of green has been spared please let me know!! (Google Maps: Hans-Sedlmayr-Weg and Almgasse)

"We stand today at a crossroads: One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness.
The other leads to total extinction. Let us hope we have the wisdom to make the right choice."
~Woody Allen
I'll find out tomorrow. Too tired to stay up for the results.... time change and darkness is killing me! UGH!
Crossroads - Bobcat mother and her kitten look on towards an ever-changing, developed landscape. It's amazing to me how wildlife exist in urban spaces where I least expect them to. Bobcats seem especially adept at this since they are generalists and adapt to a wide variety of habitat types and prey. However, even for them, roads/barriers and rodenticide poisoning take a toll. The future is uncertain for this adorable kitten, but I'm sure mom is imparting valuable life-lessons that will give a fighting chance for survival.
