Rovinj
City in Croatia
Rovinj is a Croatian port city on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. The old town, whose houses are crowded by the water, is located on a promontory. Winding, cobblestone streets lead up to the hilltop church of St. Euphemia, whose high spire characterizes the cityscape. South of the old town is Lone Bay, one of the region's numerous pebble beaches. Directly in front of the mainland are the 14 islands of the Rovinj archipelago.

Rovinj ist eine kroatische Hafenstadt an der Westküste der Halbinsel Istrien. Die Altstadt, deren Häuser dicht gedrängt am Wasser stehen, befindet sich auf einer Landzunge. Verwinkelte, kopfsteingepflasterte Gassen führen zu der auf einem Hügel gelegenen Kirche der Heiligen Euphemia hinauf, deren hohe Turmspitze das Stadtbild prägt. Südlich der Altstadt befindet sich die Bucht Lone, einer der zahlreichen Kieselstrände der Region. Direkt vor dem Festland liegen die 14 Inseln des Archipels von Rovinj.

The karst crater / canyon of Pazin with the medieval castle in the middle of the picture. Pazin Castle (Croatian: Kaštel Pazin Italian: Castello di Pisino) was built on a solid rock situated in the middle of the town of Pazin, the administrative seat of Istria County, Croatia. It is the largest and best-preserved castle in Istria. Underneath in the canyon river Pazinčica disappears and flows through a cave that inspired already writers like Dante Alighieri and Jules Verne.

Die Burg Pazin (deutsch Burg Mitterburg, italienisch Castello di Montecuccoli) ist die größte und eine der besterhaltendsten Burganlagen von Istrien. Unterhalb der Burg in der abgebildeten Schlucht verliert sich der Fluss Pazinčica in einem Loch, um seinen weiteren Lauf durch eine Höhle zu nehmen.
