The last thing you should do late Friday night when slightly merry is post stuff anywhere. And tell people you are merry. Stuffed up on both accounts I guess; ) So the rest of the world is just waking up to Friday, ending here, come on in, the water's fine. Have a great day everyone,
PS - here's a cute little elephant from Sabii Sands, South Africa.
I'm so gonna cringe when I see this tomorrow
PSS I think his name is Fluffy
PSSS or it could be Harold
PSSSS or Gerald
(last PSSS) or Snorky
Ego is like the cloak that shadows the spirit - always doubting, always seeking validation from outside of itself, it is controlling, manipulating, and often driven by primal needs.
Its that voice that tells you - you cannot do this, that voice that makes you feel insecure. Or that voice that tells you to cheat - it will be ok. It is like the voice of the demon that constantly needs to control you. It constantly pumps itself up in order to make you feel good and desperately seeks validation from others. It cringes and becomes the victim when under scrutiny. It disarms you in so many ways.
Spirit on the other hand sits quietly in the background, not judging, just 'being' waiting silently for you to acknowledge and tap into this great fountain of wisdom laying dormant inside of you.
Spirit never doubts, spirit never judges, spirit just 'is' your greatest reservoir that never needs validation. It is your authentic self that knows all things.
When man has exhausted everything outside of himself - only then may he turn in on himself and discover the greatest gift of all - that which lays dormant inside of him.
Society has orchestrated it this way - not wanting you to gain this power that is within each of us.
Fun fact: Built as a trolley bridge in 1908, now there's a garden on it. They call it The Bridge of Flowers, but Charlie and I, so far, find that to be a little misleading. Just do a full-body cringe, grab any parent (one of yours, or not) and run the gauntlet.
When I saw that Cotton was the Macro Mondays theme, the first thing I thought of was my cotton boll that I acquired while visiting Murfreesboro, Tennessee back in November 2014. I searched the house but couldn't find it so I went with Plan B for the group submission. I still wanted to show the pic of the focus stacking work I did on it back in 2015. To that end, I pulled forward the posting date on the B&W version. While I was looking at it, I kind of cringed and started to think that maybe I would rerun the stacking and process it again to see what I would get with today's skill set. So that's what I did and this is the latest version in color.
The image was still created from the original 15 image focus stack I shot with my 55mm Nikon Micro lens and natural light.
Nikon 55mm f/2.8 NIKKOR Micro Lens, 15 image focus stack shot at f/11.
Well, probably not. Bound to go there again. But we already had Seconds Out and Round Two 😁
I was really surprised how similar the comps were between this and my previous attempt. Interesting to see how my processing has changed since though. Thinking the earlier one needs a reprocess, loved it at the time and now having a little inward cringe!
With my newly acquired Second Life photography skills, I decided to redo my Gingerbread Girl picture from a few weeks ago. This one is SO SO SO much better.
Try not to cringe, but here's the original Gingerbread Girl. Seriously, if you are going to click on that link, brace yourself, it's not good.

I'm well aware that many a photographer is now cringing at my unhealthy propensity to shoot into the sun and my camera lens can't be too happy about it either but I swear I'm trying to shake it off :-)))))))
This is one of the highest elevations in the city centre I live in and most people just call it "The Hill" (der Hügel)
There had been a three-day open air music festival in July in this park every year since 1985 ... it had been cancelled 2020 and now this year, too, due to the pandemic.
The Hill is the best place to watch the shows on the main stage ... very very crowded - you would cringe now seeing the images from back then. But I have enjoyed some great concerts there, especially one or two decades ago, when it still was more of an insider tip.
It's a good place to watch the sun go down, too, though ... or for kite flying and even tobogganing (sledging) for some days this winter : ))
Happy Weekend : ))
[for those interested: here's a video of one of the night gigs in 2018 showing the hill too www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8w-CqQ2yvE]

**I had a great deal of trouble getting this image the way I wanted it. This current image, which was uploaded Oct. 18, 2018 is a reedited version of the original that was uploaded on Oct. 6, 2018. It's been cropped and edited differently. I am finally happy with it. Sorry to anyone that preferred the original - but i got tired of cringing everytime I looked at it. Hope you like this new version.**

I stopped to take some pictures the other week of some hoses in a field. The shots did not really come out so well on a compositional level. There was always some far off distraction to make me cringe a bit. But with some foolin' I did manage to make this one.
Happy Slider Sunday
Another installment of Fuzztar Lens Friday. I have made mention of the 75-200 Vivitar lens that I foolishly used during the late 1980s when I lived in Texas, then New Hampshire, then Montana before I realized that a good camera cant take good photos with a POS lens. I still find shots such as this that make me cringe at my stupidity. I guess you were suppose to focus as well as zoom. And what's a loupe? At least photo shop can now minimize the severe vignette around the edges.

a month ago I watched Over the Moon (suggested by my good friend Venus.) and hooooly shit what an amazing movie, it was not made by pixar or disney, but another company, and it just felt very fresh, there are some moments that are very cringe, but the culture, the ancient chinese mythology about Chang'e is just beautiful and magical, I hope that more movies with Gods and Goddesses from all pantheons will be made, cause that'd be really cool.
And this is my tribute photo for Chang'e, I did my monthly god/goddess reveals during my early years on flickr, but I stopped cause it took sucha long time to do and a lot of items, but who knows? maybe i'll do it again in the future.
Stay safe. <3

This was one of the last of photos I took in China. I understand the need for security, but still cringe at the sight of so much barbed wire. China and Canada were not on speaking terms since the arrest of 'Two Michaels' in December 2018. They were only released few weeks ago (Sept, 2021) after trumped up charges of espionage were dropped. The whole group of 30 Canadians was well behaved, so we all returned to Toronto as scheduled. Still, the political affair did not exactly made the decision to travel easy.

Hate your needs, hate your wants, hate the way you love to taunt
Hate your voice, makes me cringe everytime I hear you speak
It's uncomfortable to know you share the same air as me
Hate your lack of common sense and I'm tired of compromising

The osprey eyas, who was the original aggressor seems to be cringing under the aggressive behavior of its sibling. The parent seems to be finally responding. When I first viewed the newly born birds there were three eyases. The aggression of its siblings may have resulted in its death. I took this photo at Lake Sonoma, Sonoma County, California.

Kitties got catnip bananas, Pansy watched from the sidelines. The occasion is that at my singing lesson a couple days ago I sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in the same key in which it was written (C major), a minor miracle. My range when I started was basso profundo and I have been taking lessons for 11 years from a very demanding and very fine musician, also a devoted animal lover and rescuer and Yankees fan. She had a big smile this time when I sang it instead of making faces, cringing, or shaking her head (meaning "stop right there").

Absolutely my toy! Just like Big Red before Double D, I expect, get and take a lot out of them. I cringe when they get scratched but in the end they are to be used. Can not tell you how many times I have met Off Highway Vehicles, side by side 4 wheelers or old jeeps out in the middle of nowhere and they are incredulous that I drove that truck to where we are. The back of the truck is full of jacks, boards, blocks, shovels, spare parts, air compressor, tire repair tooling, water, oil, antifreeze and much more. I have chains for all six wheels and a can do attitude.
This is one from years ago, when I had just started doing still life. It makes me cringe even more than my current efforts. But the colours from the original Fuji X-E1 have never been bettered in my opinion.
Several hours and no comments on my post today. Leaves me wondering if I should just give up and put a Fave on each of my contacts photos like they do to me? Anyway, have a nice day while I cringe in fear of this dragon that hides in a house about 200 m away from our house :)

A frame I took about a year ago. I hustled carelessly to get the shot and smashed my knee in the process. Got the shot, just cringing.
I am not a huge fan of rhubarb. I don't know anyone who is. Why would you want to be? Lol. I pretty much just like it in desserts because I find it way too tart. I cringe at the thought of back when I was a kid my brother and I would eat it while dipping the end of the stalk in a small container of sugar and biting into it. That does not appeal to me now and I prefer it in a strawberry rhubarb pie the most.
This morning I picked our first crop of it from our garden and cut it up and put in the freezer. Strawberries are just beginning to come into season here and the weather has been so perfect for them. This afternoon we took advantage of the sunshine and took a drive in the convertible to Heeman's Greenhouse and while we were there we also bought two quarts of their first crop of strawberries which we enjoyed for our dessert tonight. A strawberry rhubarb pie is coming in the near future, I just wasn't feeling like baking one today...
Thanks for your visit! I hope everyone had a great day!

Great word, isn't it? Just rolls off the tongue. While its use might admittedly fall under the heading of pretentious for those very few who might somehow know its meaning, it remains a tragedy what is happening to our language and the ever increasing disdain and lack of concern for vocabulary. Do the schools still teach it? Do standardized tests still recognize excellence in it? Or have we become so "woke" that the only things that matter are recognition of our "unconscious or implicit racial bias" or that gender is something that can be chosen by our children from 70+ options. I think we all know the answer to that.
The one word that our present culture wildly accepts and inappropriately and indiscriminately uses begins with "f" and was, above all others, taboo when I was young. Is this a sign of an advancing culture or one in decline? A rhetorical question, but I, for one, still cringe when I hear it. As our language coarsens, so does our civility. In a time of equal parts tragedy and nonsense, it's truly a shame to see all our cultural norms and mores decline so quickly.
And from what I understand defines being "woke," count me as soundly asleep.
One of my Facebook bird group contacts gave me a great caption for this: "Teacher teacher, I have the answer, pick ME ME pick ME!"

If you've been following the news, you no doubt have heard of the two HA cruise ships off the coast of FL. They are desperate to dock so they can release their sick passengers and crew. The Zaandam actually has four deceased passengers still on board. I always cringe at the horror stories when cruise ships become petri dishes, but this one hits a little closer to home as it was the ship we stayed on during our Alaska cruise back in 2016. In this shot, we had docked in Haines for one of our excursions. I pray someplace will allow them to dock soon! (a not so happy HWW)

On this night of spooks and gnomes
Of swooning leaves and cringing crones
Of legends told from ear to ear
Of shrieking cats that grin and sneer
Over the hill and past the tree
A haunted house there said to be
With chill and mist to pierce your soul
And whispering winds to keep you cold
Heed the whispers straight from hell
To keep you safe from witchy spells
For through this night of devilish play
All who tread will rue the day

My problem with bluebell photos is that I see so many excellent captures I become a bit reticent to post my efforts. This year I managed to get myself in a bluebell wood in with great conditions, poor I did feel the location was mediocre but I’m sure a more artistic photography could have made better of it. Well with that cringing introduction here is another photo of that Saturday morning in a Cambridgeshire wood. I have little knowledge of good locations in the area around my daughters so I googled best bluebell wood in Cambridgeshire and Herts, I decided the Herts location were a bit far afield so I zoned in on this wood only about 25 minutes from my daughters. The wood I chose was supposed to be a coppice wood and on this photo you can see many examples of that practice.
