I created a stencil in the shape of a teardrop to duplicate the image rather than trying to do it freehand.

This took some doing. I got a photo of myself from my sophomore year in high school, took a photo of it, pasted it to Word, minimized it, then duplicated it. After printing it out, I trimmed it and pasted it to the index card. The rest is what you see.

A note of explanation: I dug out my old Spirograph set (copyright 1967!) and experimented a bit. The original pens have since dried up, so I used ultra-fine Sharpie markers to create the shapes, then added some color. I'll probably experiment more with this later. Hasbro has since re-released this kit, so you can find it in stores or on-line.

This was the coldest day that year, January 20, 1985. This is a photo of a photo taken by my father-in-law from his living room window looking across the street to the neighbor's house. You can see a little of the snow accumulated around the sill of his window.
Now, How cold did it get? He didn't say.
How much snow was on the ground? He didn't say.
Why did he take this picture? He didn't say.
We do know that it was the house in Aurora, Illinois where he and his family lived.

And how true this is!
But I also remember that preparing to go on Vacation was more exhausting that just staying on the job! I used to work as a lab technician for a sewage treatment plant, and when I would go on a week's vacation, I would have to arrange for the collection, label and prepared all the bottles, chain of custody sheets, lab request forms, and billing for 8-15 samples per day, with 3-5 tests per sample. Then, when I returned from vacation, I would have to process and enter the data from the contract lab's reports. More work. Had I simply stayed at work, I would have saved all that time. I never really appreciated vacation knowing that once I returned, I would have all that waiting for me.
That was for 10 years prior to leaving that career to attend the Seminary in 1998. Today, I can enjoy vacations...when I can afford the time!

And yes, many years ago, when I was studying math and science in college, I knew how to use all those formulas. Today, well, um, let me say, it would take a lot of restudying!

The black spots are from India Ink which was dropped onto the card, then a burst of air blown through a straw was delivered to make the 'splat' pattern.
In order to get to my bottle of India Ink, I had to do some cleaning of my 'office' area in the basement, resulting in several hours of sorting, storing, recycling, and reorganizing. I'm still not done, but the bottle of India Ink as well as a bottle of sepia ink, are now at my disposal! More to come later this month.
