This piece will be exhibited at Art Basel in Miami Beach. After its run there, it travels to New York Museum of Arts and Design where it will go to auction. Proceeds go entirely to emerging artist programs.

My wife has an Epiphone El Capitan acoustic bass. I got it for her 50th birthday. Then I had this idea that I would make a new truss rod cover for it out of raw aluminum plate. This is a deceptively time consuming process to make a polished, finished piece out of a raw piece of aluminum.

You can see the smooth stokes for the background, and heavy textured strokes for the lips and highlights. My general method was to follow the highlights and apply the Gel really thick in those areas.

I'm taking part in Kim Klassen's Inspiration Stay-cation and she asked us to share our creative spaces with each other -- so, well, here's mine. Its usually not quite so organized because I share it with my husband and 3 of the kids. They tend to leave their stuff in piles all over my desk. I'm not much better so I can't lay all the blame on them!
Piranha Productions called us and wanted to creeate a unique award for the Red Robin President's Club. We discussed a few different ideas and decided that surfboards would be the perfect recognition piece for their convention in Mexico. They gave us total license with the design..."Make it cool", they said. These pictures take you from design to fabrication to shipping.

Even though we live at the second floor, we do get such an amount of dust, I can't believe that !
I've dusted and cleaned my creative space this morning, so this is a view of it, or at least one good half of it. WIPs always everywhere. Like my ideas.

Seems like everything we do ends up turning tinto an art project. This dinner party was no exception. We hung some LED lights on our canopy and Jake Schlumberger, our shop guy, grabbed my Canon G12 and started shooting. This is what he came up with.

This is a view of a really heavy highlight I applied to the painted highlight on one of the lips. This looks like white right now, but eventually it will dry perfectly clear and show up as a high spot right over the top of the highlight. These little details make all the difference! Applying Gel Medium to your printed pieces is easy and fun. This whole process took about 15 minutes.
