Crash Street Kids performing at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis Minnesota. Rock the Cause! www.myspace.com/rock_the_cause
A lot of sheep paddocks have these odd circles created by the animals. I thought it would make a great image with this grand backdrop. It needed something else though and Leonardo's "Vitruvian Man" came to mind. It took three attempts, in different light conditions to make the image work, though. When the clouds, mist and rain rolled in, I knew I just had to wait for the sun to pop through. The scary part was that the main road was only 50 metres away.
As you can see, i got so inspired my the movie, Black Swan so i decided to strike a pose that resembles the idea of the movie :)
it took me hard time to figure out how i could make a tall ponytail look haha, i hope it looks well..
more to come guys! :)
happy days!
“Sitting here on top of everywhere, what do I care?
Days never end; I know the voyage’s end will soon be here
No eternal life is here for me
And now I’ve found the key to the eternal dreams
And I will stay; I’ll not be back
Eldorado, I will be free of the world . . .”
I have photographed this stand of poplars a few times this autumn. The curve and direction of the road helps the trees to catch the morning and evening light so they just "glow". Now the leaves are dissappearing and i thought I'd try shooting in the dusk with the last light of the day. It gave me a chance to add some light of my own. Exposure was very long and this is also a panorama stitched from five images.
Part of a series shot at Bluff, the most southerly town and port on the South Island of New Zealand. As a pattern of blustery rain squalls came and went I sheltered under a bush watching and waiting as the light and conditions changed.
Rotten Fruit for The Photographic Journal🍊🍌🍋
A collaboration & conversation between Jason Travis and Courtney Weis.
Courtney: Once you get your first tattoo machine, maybe your friends are a little scared to get tattooed by you. You have to find alternatives. And usually it's a citrus, like a grapefruit or something with a big enough surface to put a cool palm-sized tattoo on there. And I wouldn't say it's the exact same as skin, but it a good template.
Jason: And so for our shoot the idea was that these fruits were bad boys getting tattoos.
Courtney: They're a little sassy. They're a little fruity. A little young and naive.

Elders are flowering all over the Wakatipu now. This tree stands alone just below the Remarkables Range.
Kayaking along the coastline of the beautiful Waiheke Island these epic clouds clouds appeared, making this mythic landscape, which just called for a story. The figure I've used was photgraphed over a year ago near home.
I love this location so much. I'm making a series from this shoot, with the Night watch figure in different positions and with different processing seeing where I can take the feeling of that cold evening.
Rhythmic heartbeat hums,
Life's frequencies intertwined,
Melodies of time.

Colored leaves are falling and first snow is on the tops. A cold southerly is blowing and the smell of wood smoke pervades the town. I'm catching the last of the glory of Autumn in Kingston.

The rock formations in the lower Nevis Valley are so near Queenstown, but another world away. This rock has always reminded me of of the fossiled figure eternally manning an enormous cannon on an abondoned spacacraft in the first Avatar movie. I've had an image like this in mind for a long time, so I went out and shot images of the rock and myself in position and put this together in Photoshop.
Theme of this shoot was Hollywood Glamour ala George Hurrell. Played fast'n'loose with that though. George would have used about 4 or 5 fresnel-lensed hotlights. I used my Pentax portable strobes. The secret sauce though is a macro ringlight installed inside an 18" softbox, attached to a monopod and hand-held a few inches above Dorothy by my assistant (who is probably nursing sore arms today. Sorry, Marzi!). Other lights in this shot: AF540 in a 42" bounce umbrella camera-left, and a snooted AF540 hairlight well back camera right.
Huge thank-you's to Dorothy, Vivian, Ladylyn and Marzi. You guys rock! And a giant thanks to Derek for letting us crawl all over his Cafe. Go down and catch some jazz, and have a steak while you're there. Tell 'em I sent you. :-)

The day began with the mountains and lake almost completely obscured in bright whiteness. By the time I got out to these rocks the fog was lifting and a brisk breeze was rippling the waters. I've been wanting to create a series using cloth moving in wind and water. There will be more to come.

I found this sheep trough at the top of a hill with an awesome view down the valley and the Hector Range with it's new coat of early snow, to The Remarkables. It just needed that human element, so, surrounded by turnips, I stepped in to the murky water.

Come fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame!

Another image from my Hollywood Glamour shoot.
Key light is a ringlight installed inside an 18" softbox, attached to a monopod and hand-held a few inches above Dorothy by my assistant. There's also a CTO gelled AF540 on the floor firing up.
