A long telephoto view creates an optical illusion making it appear like a freight train is approaching with a long string of white Omya slurry tanks in tow. In reality those cars are stored on the siding and the train on the mainline is actually shoving north with seven private passenger cars.
This was day seven of the American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners (AAPRCO) Autumn Explorer VI that saw the special train travel north from St. Johnsbury to Orleans then back south to Bellow Falls via VRS' Washington County Railroad, the former Canadian Pacific and Boston and Maine Conn River mainline.
Having run around the power around adjacent the railroad's Barton transload facility, the crew is now shoving back north to Orleans to stage for a 2 PM departure once the passengers return from their excursion and lunch. They are seen north of the Boudreau Lane crossing at about MP L10.2 on the Lyndonville Subdivision of the WACR's Connecticut River Division led by VTR 206 a GP38-3 206 blt. Oct. 1969 as SOU 2718 and originally a high nosed straight GP38. Not visible in trail is VTR 313 a GP40FH-2 that was rebuilt from original NYC GP40 3078 (blt. 8-67) for New Jersey Transit commuter service. She later ended up working for Iowa Pacific on their assorted passenger operations until that company went belly up and then was purchased in the bankruptcy auction by VRS in 2020.
See prior posts to learn more about the history of the line and for a roster of the cars participating in this trip.

Created for Vivid Imagination's Graffiti & Street Art challenge.
Sometimes I have no idea where an image is going until it gets there. In this case, the opposite was true.
Last year I went to a panel discussion on graffiti and street art. The panelists included a street artist, a gallery owner, a museum curator, and an arts writer. At the time it struck me as ironic that this renegade -- even anti-social -- art form is now subject matter for museums and art galleries.
On the one hand, I think it's great that these outsider artists are getting some well-deserved recognition -- even to the point of receiving commissions to create their work. On the other, I can't help but be struck by the fact that some of the same people now lauded by the art establishment have shown so little respect for others' property in the past. But I guess this is just another example of a familiar pattern: yesterday's outlaws become today's heroes.
In yet another irony, graffiti -- which property owners regularly paint over -- is now preserved on the pristine white walls of the contemporary art gallery -- often referred to (not always with admiration) as "the white cube": "Unshadowed, white, clean, artificial, the space is devoted to the technology of esthetics. Works of art are mounted, hung, scattered for study. Their ungrubby surfaces are untouched by time and its vicissitudes." (Brian O'Doherty, Inside the White Cube: Notes on the Gallery Space)

Friends of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is a community-based 501(c) 3 non-profit organization coming together to design, create and maintain a flowering pedestrian bridge across the Rocky Broad River and the walkways at both ends of the bridge for the joy and benefit of all who come our way. The bridge, completed in 1925, served as a part of the US 64/US 74-A/NC 9 highway until 2011 when a new bridge was opened to traffic. The Historic Bridge #7 was turned over to the Town of Lake Lure to allow for the creation of this unique community garden bridge, to be developed by local people to further enhance the natural beauty of the Hickory Nut Gorge for generations to come.
