TeamHWS Workshop #4 - "Absolute Beginners Crashcourse" for FREE - Sunday, 26th Dec

TAG yourself guys

Inspirational weekend with my colleagues in Rome :) It was crowded, but we still decided to see the main attractions. A bit frustrating, but still... got to love that city! It was my fifth time there, but I´ve never seen this many tourists before...

Next time we will go up at 5 am every morning and make nice images in the morning light. Without thousands of people. Yup.

A street in Trastevere.

Late at saturday night, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth had dinner at the restaurant next to our flat, they were in Rome to promote the new Avengers movie. Normally, I just see the cows having dinner outside my window, so it was a bit cool.

Finally I found some flash pictures which where not messed up. So i put them together and made that picture. I quite like it despite those nasty reflections. Definitely need a crashcourse in paint post processing.

You can find the old version here:

SLs Physics are, at best, a compromise.

(Due do Flickrs video compression it may not look like the real deal. Download the video and watch it on your PC for better quality, if wanted.)

There are many values who play into the game to "calm your tits".

Here a little crashcourse:

Physics depend heavily on your FPS (and in a basis on server Physics FPS, normally capped at 45FPS.

45FPS is also the treshold where you mostly don't see any further change.

That means > 45FPS and above you see how it should look.

If you go lower than 45FPS, you see less and less effect of the physics.

What does that mean? Mostly everyone sees your tits jiggle differently. Except everyone gets stable 45+ FPS on their viewer.

How likely is that? ;)

I see a lot of people use ridiculous values for their physics.

Intentional or not, i'm not sure.

Maybe due to lack of performance what leads them cranking up the values to see any effect. While a person with a good PC sees them wacking around like a wrecking ball. Or they never stop jiggling at all.

In the end, everyone on their own.

I make my own physics for years now and tend towards "realistic" movements on said 45-60FPS treshold. Means i adjust them so it looks decent at 45FPS for others and good for my viewers 60FPS.

Now the important part.

Should you buy physics on the marketplace? In my opinion no.

You don't know in what conditions the person who made them adjusted them to. (Hopefully for the 45FPS server treshold but who knows that for sure?)

And if you don't got the same conditions, it won't mostly look like intended. And people get upset.

Also there are free physics files these days who are also decent and can be adjusted further, if they are modify.

Get you a posestand, slap in your walking animation and see how stuff looks for you. And adjust if needed/wanted.

PS:

For example. I use more tame physics as in the video above when i'm out of my home. This one here is only for showcase effect how it can look like when you got stable 60FPS on your viewer. Harsh movements let get physics haywire. So tighter physics work better. Also rubberbanding because of lag makes your Avi do spontanous movements who stress physics to their maximum they are set for. And even that makes the tightest physics go crazy.

Less is more.

Physics are also very situational. One looks good for walking.

But not so for dancing. And vice versa... hundreds of options for perfectionism.

I'm still in the honeymoon phase of an Obama victory, but that's not stopping me from demanding the change I want to see. When I heard early in the campaign that Obama was in line with the Chicago School of Economics it was a chilling revelation.

Still, it does not change my feelings about voting for Obama. A presidential campaign is largely about voting for the person who tells the best story about how great America is. A sort of review of the story we tell ourselves so that we can continue to go along with the adventures of Empire. It has little bearing on reality. I was just tired of the story being told by fearmongering, old white guys, dragging down the language of discourse, taking away our civil rights and saying it was for our own good. And then they go into a sovereign nation and loot and pillage for our freedoms. Ick. So I guess what I'm saying is that I was voting for a change of tone even though I don't think it is possible for fundamental change.

After watching Chris Martenson's crash course I can see that our money system is about as messed up as our climate with that same hockey stick chart spelling out our ultimate demise, but I sure learned a lot about where all those trillions of dollars are coming from and what kind of impact that has.

We can still try to keep the Bush regime from robbing us completely on their way out. Getting Wall St. out of Washington is the message Naomi Klein and Automatic Earth are trying to impart—that we can't have the same people who got us into this mess working to "fix" it. We can't have another Wall St. person as Secretary of the Treasury. She recommends Joseph Stiglitz who appears in this video with her.

Automatic Earth sternly spells out what Obama must do then writes eloquently and movingly on how bittersweet this Obama victory was. That was the best summation I read on the Obama victory phenomena.
