Day 357/365:
A that'll do shot today, of my homemade cranberry sauce.
I seem to have this horrible bug that is going around so no motivation or inspiration but since I make my cranberry sauce every Christmas, I usually take a photo of it.

I made the cranberry sauce today, one more thing ticked off the to do list...it's great when your preparations present a photo opportunity too...another thing ticked off the list...and breathe!
A year round staple in my pantry is cranberry sauce; made with fresh berries (in season soon!), grated ginger, orange juice, cinnamon and half the recommended amount of sugar.
This tangy sauce compliments poultry like none other. :-)

And yes, I've been waiting a year to post this picture. I didn't even know about Turkey Spam until AFTER Thanksgiving last year.

Had no time to post yesterday, on Tree-Mendous Tuesday, but while strolling along a path at our local shopping village, I looked up at this blue-t-full sky and took a quick, walk-by pic, and said, "OH MY"!
Although these are not cranberries, thoughts of cranberry sauce are popping up in my taste buds! Hope everyone who celebrates this American holiday will have a joyous one . . . no calorie counting necessary . . . unless one wants to avoid the post holiday guilt!
'Tis the Season!
354/365: I've finally finished making the cards, I always leave the hand delivered ones until last. I've started the food shopping and the cranberry sauce is made. I took a pic of my homemade cranberry sauce for my last 365, in 2016 so I thought I'd try to do something slightly different this time with a flat lay. (the 2016 one is in comments...and yes I saved the tag).
Well, Christmas is almost upon us and 2018 is drawing to a close. I know some of you take a break from Flickr during the holiday period so I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful festive season and a happy and healthy 2019. I am taking a break from the 365 next year but will continue with one or two challenges so will still be on Flickr and look forward to hopefully having a little more time to catch up with your work.

Wow!!!
Thanksgiving is usually my favorite holiday. I love a holiday that focuses on sharing a meal with people I love rather than on "stuff." This year family feasts are harsh reminders that not everything is perfect in my family. My daughter, who was extremely sick this summer, will still not be able to fully join in, and that makes me really sad. I'm trying to make the best of it though.
We always spend the holiday with my mother's family. This year we will be at her sister's house in New Haven. I have so many fond childhood memories that take place in her house. I adore my aunt and my cousins and their families. My sister and one of my brothers will be coming as well. I am looking forward to seeing everyone!
I'm making the cranberry sauce and brussel sprouts and three pies (pumpkin, pecan, and sour cream raisin).
I'm grateful for family traditions and a wonderful extended family to share them with.

(349/366) I really enjoy making my own Cranberry sauce.
Recipe :- 2 x 300g punnets of fresh Cranberries, 180g of sugar, 250ml of Port, 200ml of fresh orange juice (plus the zest of an orange & a lemon). You can use caster sugar but I prefer a less runny sauce so I use jam sugar which has added pectin to aid setting. Tesco had run out of cheap Ruby Port so I've used Tawny. I honestly can't say it makes any difference. Of course I've had to sample a small glassful purely for research purposes you understand!
Method :- Before you start wash your jars & lids thoroughly & allow them to dry (I put my jars through the dishwasher last night). Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan, bring to a rapid boil so the Cranberries pop, stir regularly at this stage. Turn down the heat & allow the sauce to simmer gently stirring it occasionally. Meanwhile warm your clean jars & lids in the oven for a few minutes.
After about 15 minutes take the saucepan off the heat & allow to cool for a couple of minute. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Pour or spoon the sauce into the warm jars (I decant the sauce into a Pyrex jug first, the spout makes it easier & less messy to pour into the jars). Put the lids on the jars immediately, very tightly. As the sauce cools the lids will contract & any safety buttons will "pop" down. This has made 2 large jars & 1 small, about 1kg of sauce in total. The jars will keep in a cupboard indefinitely unopened & can be stored in the fridge for a few weeks once opened.
So, what do you have planned for Dinner this week? What are you thankful for this year? You are welcome to share, www.lancerogersphotos.com www.instagram.com/lancerogersphotos

Sonoma Artisan Foie Gras - The pan seared Foie Gras with the sauce (cranberry sauce? I forgot) and it tasted goodγI preferred a small bite of toast or cracker rather than the artisan breadγJust my personal preference...=)

I turned them into a cranberry-orange sauce. Good on turkey, ham, and french toast stuffed with cream cheese and the sauce.
My wife made some lovely cranberry sauce and a few jars are now part of some Christmas gifts!
