A closeup view of my friend Julie's glorious crabapple tree.

Julie isn't sure what type of crabapple this is since it was already on her property when she bought it back in 1990. I've found two varieties of crabapple that look similar to hers, but can't tell from online photos whether Julie has a Profusion or Prairfire Crabapple.

Each day of spring brings magical surprises in the garden as each plant awakens and joins the chorus of beauty.

This winter is an irruption year for us of birds from the north, mainly finches but grosbeaks are included this year. There is not enough food for them to survive the winter so they have been showing up in southern Ontario and as far south as Florida.

Pine Grosbeak is the largest and rarest of "the winter finches"

My Crabapple tree 'Prairie Fire' is aging now, just like me, lol. Its branches are adorned with many kinds of lichens. It's magical to see new crimson leaves emerge from the lichen festooned branch. Soon it will be covered with glowing red leaves.

This was the first rain in many months. Wildfires were all around us. If the rain had not come when it did, the reflection could have been barren. The wildfires could have consumed everything, leaving no vegetation. The rain came just in time to save the reflection...

This crab apple tree is badly infected by insects and needs to be taken down. A photo to show her beauty in sunset before it leaves us.

A handsome Cedar Waxwing posing for me in an ornamental crabapple tree. He looks a little put off with my presence. The vast majority of fruit has now disappeared from this tree. Between the robins and the waxwings it didn't stand a chance.

This was taken towards the end of December when I finally saw some of the winter finches that had come south for lack of food in the north this winter. They were a joy to behold and get some images. The background you are seeing is snow on the ground.

Even though we've had a fairly mild winter (knock on wood!) I still anxiously await the spring greens and beautiful colors the season ushers in.

Instead of a partridge in a pear tree, I give you a cat in a Crabapple tree with my best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season! I thought that my cat, Mr. Meowzer looked rather festive as I noticed him in an unusual place - balancing on the topmost branches of our Crabapple tree. Yes, he did get down by himself :)

My crab apple has suddenly burst into blossom for Spring, 2020. And today, at dusk, with the last rays of the late afternoon sunlight submerging into the tall gum trees of the nearby eucalyptus forest, I was able to photograph the last light for Tuesday 8th September, 2020, on the petals of the newly hatched crab apple blossom.

When my Crabapple tree starts showing its new red leaves in spring, I can't help but be thankful for nature's renewal.

Please note that a red-haired woman has snuck into the garden with a lot of gear. It's the first time I've ever seen anyone do that. Most people respect the closed gates.
