David would score a 5th at the this race for his best career finish. Bob on the other hand would melt in the brutal New Orleans heat and not score a point. As a side note, finishing 17th at this race would be future Honda of Troy owner Phil Alderton on a CR125.

A CR125M2, brand new 1976 model.

It was the first 125cc MX'er Honda imported to the UK. I remember riding it for the first time - my mates and I thought it was a bit "gutless". Then the power-band kicked in - SHIT! This bike in particular was infamous for it's on-off powerband, and as a result not very "rideable" in stock form, and so not as good as the favourite - Suzuki's RM125(A?) and probably also the YZ125C or KX125. Certainly the Suzuki and Yamaha had up-and-over pipes too, can't remember about the Kwacker.

I remember the bike came with a "spark arrestor" cum silencer to fit on the end of the pipe in case you wanted to go and do a bit of leisurely trail-riding - but it wasn't exactly a Serrow!

I never got around to racing this bike, the first motocrosser I ever rode, but did have some great times on her! 125cc MX was very big in the US at the time, and I recall Marty Smith racing a highly modified CR125 to victory over a few years. FMF (Flying Machine Factory) were the main aftermarket guys.

This pic is from 1974. It's a little Elsinore 125 I bought used. It was loud, obnoxious, and ran like a scalded dog. I thought it was great. That's my Mom's 1964 Ford Fairlane in the background.
