CR 399 is an asterism (stars forming a pattern) in the Vulpecula constellation, at varying distances from earth.
The shape it forms (often nicknamed Coathanger) is a fairly popular target for visual astronomy during the summer (northern hemisphere) or winter (southern hemisphere) months. As with many asterisms, the individual stars are nowhere near eachother but are instead just a chance alignment from our vantage point here on earth.

Crossing over the C&O's Canadian Subdivision No.1 with the Leamington Local, CR 5826 rolls down the Leamington Branch as it heads to the Heinz plant in town.
Conrail GP8 #5454 on job RO12 is pulling a cut of covered hoppers from Cereal Food Processing on 2/28/1988. Cereal Food Processing became Grain Craft in 2014 and is now closing in 2020. They are the last rail customer in this part of Cleveland's Industrial Flats that has had rail service since the late 1800's. Since 1996, this has been served by the Flats Industrial RR which is ceasing operation. CR #5454 was built as a GP7 for the Erie RR and rebuilt by Conrail in 1978.
New Years Eve 1997 at the South end of Shire Oaks, PA finds CR 2031 on the back end of a WISO-84 that has come in from the Ellsworth Secondary, CR 6582 that appears to have brought in an empty hopper train solo, and a C40-8W and SD40-2 that have also brought in empty hoppers. Shire Oaks was a busy place back then.
The Conrail local pauses in front of the station in Avon, NY on January 8, 1988. The primary business at the time was to work the LA&L interchange. The local also worked the Kraft plant, although at the time it may have been Birdseye Foods IIRC. It was always possible to catch the LA&L coming down to get the cars Conrail brought in, but it did not happen on this day.
La route des crêtes serpente de la Ciotat à Cassis.... Ce jeune chanteur de rap, en équilibre sur la falaise, chantait, chantait, enregistrant un clip surchauffé, alors que les nuages, peu à peu, investissaient le port, en contrebas....

A Mutt and Jeff lashup for this Friday with a Conrail westbound on the former Pennsylvania Ft Wayne line west of Massillon. A former PRR SD45 and an ex NYC F7 team up to haul the eclectic mix of freight cars in April 1978. I don't know what train this was but a single ore jenny, some box cars, some tanks, and open auto frame cars will make some switchman's job real interesting.
It seems that Conrail kept most of their four-axle Alco RS units located at their pre-Conrail terminals until retirement. This meant that the twenty-four former New York Central RS32’s stayed in NYC territory, and I never encountered any in my “home turf”. One brief visit to DeWitt did afford the opportunity to record one shortly before retirement.

Conrail 3368 leads a colorful consist on train PIPR at CP WOOD in Homewood, PA on September 19, 1994.
A pair of PC black units are in the siding at the East end of Goodman Street Yard in Rochester, NY on 2/26/1978. Evidence of the snowy Winter that year can be seen in the PC gondola that is filled with snow. There was too much snow, and no where to put it, so gondolas were filled with the white stuff and then parked wherever there was room until it could be hauled to a warmer climate so the snow could melt.

My daughter and I went out on one of our photo expeditions this past Sunday and came across this gravel county road in the Texas countryside North of Houston. We had never been out in this area before. Looked like a good scene for this treatment..
A stop at Conrail's big Conway Yard during the snowstorm on March 13, 1993 found little that was moving. At the turntable I got this guy working on the horns of 6350 during heavy snowfall.

I see a lot of these on the estuary but I have rarely got near enough for a shot so pleased to get a few snaps of this one albeit from a cr#p POV. #barnstaple
Conrail 243880 class X67 86 foot long boxcar was built in 1970 for the transportation of automobile parts between assembly plants. It was donated by CSX to the Conrail Historical Society in 2020 and was moved by truck to Shippensburg, PA in late 2021 where it was then repainted in its original color. The interior of the car will be transformed into a 10,467 cubic foot climate-controlled Conrail Museum & Archive that will be accessible to families and researchers alike. The boxcar was placed in February, 2022 near the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum (CVRM), which is housed in a restored Penn Central boxcar at the Shippensburg trailhead of the Cumberland Valley Rail-Trail.
My new ride as of last weekend, to replace the 2002 BMW 530i that had given a lot of joy over the years but was been getting too expensive to keep on the road. This is a 2013 Honda CR-Z EX 6-speed hybrid, which turns out to be nearly as zippy as the BMW but less pricey, and burns a lot less fuel especially in town. Seemed like a good step carbon-footprint-wise.
I had a different idea of how this was going to look as a light painting, but woke up a little too late to make it work. By the time I was situated at the city park a few blocks from my house there was more ambient light than would allow a flashlight to make any kind of glow effect around the car. I settled for mostly scribbling in the air. :-)
