Irish fans present a huge tricolour to the growing numbers of Croatian fans during the pre match drinking. The Croatian fans responded in kind with a flag that took up almost half of the market square.
Bust of Lenin draped in a tricolour by the Irish fans that had taken over Proletariat bar in Poznan. "The bastards at the BBC!!" was the first thing I heard when entering the bar. Confirming that the bar was Irish for that night.
Pre match singing from the Irish as "Shoes off for the boys in green" gets belted out in beer gardens all around the Poznan market square.
The Polish locals all want a picture with the colourful Irish fans. Shortly after the picture the Irish fans begin singing "Up the duff" and "It wasn't me" to the pregnant lady.
Myself and Steven settle in to watch what was surely to be a comfortable Irish win against an average Spain team.*
*totally tongue in cheek.
Not completely unexpectedly, Spain go on to win 4-0 and the Irish fans go on to create one of the (non footballing) spectacles of the entire tournament by serenading the world with a 15 minute rendition of "The Fields of Athenry". The moment goes viral on Facebook/Twitter/Youtube.
