And lately, I've forgotten who I am

Need to let my energy just drain away

And now my mind is working overtime

It's been a long day

Such a long day...

Baseballs are hand-stitched, with 108 stitches in the cowhide leather of each ball, done by hand. The leather is prepared with a rolling machine, and the stitching process is done after the leather is prepared. These hand-sewn stitches create an aerodynamic surface that improves flight and grip.

The mausoleum is to honour of the hero Pahlavon Mahmud, writer, philosopher and fighter who has become a patron saint of Chiwa. After the legend he helped the Indian ruler, and to recompense him, he asked what he wants as a present. He asked to release his fellow citizens in the prison so many as possible who could contain a cowhide. This was accepted, but he cut it in thin pieces to receive a very long belt which saved a big number of them.

The mausoleum comes from 1362, however, was rebuilt in 19. and in 1913 to be converted into the mausoleum of the Khan family. The room is in the Persian style with a turquoise-coloured dome in which the grave of the Khan Mohammed Rakhim is accommodated. In another space there is the tomb of Pahlavon Mahmud, decorates with tiles.

With the Eagle Hunters of Kyrgyzstan

Hunting with eagles is an age-old tradition amongst the nomadic people of Central Asia; in Kyrgyz, the golden eagle is known as berkut.

During the day, the falcon's eyes are covered with blindfolds sewn from cowhide, allowing the eagle to rest. When hunting with an eagle, the eagle's legs and the hunter's left hand are connected by a sheepskin rope connection and a lock. When releasing eagles, hunters remove blindfolds and locks from eagles. The scene of the falcon hunting is very spectacular. The hunter mounts an eagle with his left hand, whips his whip with his right hand, and drives his horse to gallop. After seeing the prey, he quickly took off the eagle's blindfold, pulled off the eagle's foot, and whistled, and the falcon rose into the air and rushed towards the prey.

Conservators from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts labored in the chill and snow for hours today to unearth what is believed to be the oldest unopened time capsule in the country, buried under the Golden Dome of the Massachusetts State House in 1795 by then-Governor Samuel Adams and Paul Revere, according to state records.

The 219-year-old capsule is made of cowhide and was initially discovered during State House renovations in 1855. When the repairs were complete, the state’s 23rd governor, Henry Gardner, re-buried it in the granite cornerstone of the historic building, adding new items, including coins.

Jardín (English: Garden), is a town and municipality in Antioquia, Colombia. Jardín is identified by its preserved colonial architecture, lush vegetation, and abundant rivers and streams.

Legend says that when the founders came to the Alto de las Flores ("Flower hilltop"), from the sietecueros village, they saw the valley that is today Jardín. At the time, it was entirely a jungle, full of white snakewood and crossed by two riachuelos. On seeing the beauty of the area, the settlers began to call it a garden.

Unlike some other municipalities of Antioquia, Jardín has remained largely unchanged for the last 140 years. The colonial architecture predominant throughout the area is characterized by whitewashed buildings with brightly painted doors, balconies, and cowhide chairs. Several of the chairs are hand-painted with scenes and landscapes from the local culture.

The history of Santo Cristo de Burgos. Currently located in one of the main chapel of Cathedral of Burgos. According to tradition, was worshiped by the early Christians in Jerusalem and Syria. For fear of falling into the hands of the infidels, he was thrown into the sea. It picked up a merchant from Burgos and transferred to their city Burgos.

Apparently there are more than 200 replicas of the crucifix as an image or sculpture. They are distributed throughout the world. This crucifix is made of cowhide leather and human hair and nails (which apparently continue to grow and require trimming). The arms and legs are articulated.

Wyłowił go kupiec z Burgos i przeniósł go do swojego miasta.

Baseball's spring training has begun which means the baseball season is just around the corner. This is a macro of an old used baseball caught at a baseball game. It has scuff marks, that bright red stitching and the cowhide cover for some rough textures.

Here are some facts about a baseball that I found online. A cork center is wrapped in yarn and covered with cowhide leather. It is sewn up with 108 hand-woven stitches.

In 1900 baseballs cost $3 each and owners didn't want to spend too much on replacements so a single ball would be used for an entire game and even retrieved for play if it went into the stands. Today there has to be 156 baseballs ready for play before each game. Baseballs that end up in the stands after a historic home run can be worth millions of dollars to the lucky fan that catches it.

OMG - it's a forest. I didn't know what else to do behind my sofa since I have art hanging on the opposite wall around the tv. So I decided to try out a mural. Was alot of work but I really like it.

AND SEEN IN THE TORONTO STAR HERE

Kingston upon Hull

When I saw this displayed on a wall in a corner of the Hull Maritime Museum I had no idea what it was. The only clue was that is was in the fishing section. Hull was at one time one of the largest and most productive fishing ports in the country, so I assumed it was something to do with fishing trawlers.

There wasn’t much information, and it was a little out of the way behind a TV screen, however, it seems that this cowhide was attached to the trawl net whilst it was deployed, to prevent unnecessary damage to the net itself whilst it was being dragged along the sea bed. There was no date indicating the year it was in use, but going by the other objects in the room I would guess that it dates from somewhere in the early 1960’s.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

I saw this beautiful cow at Glattalp, Switzerland, and I assume this is an Icelandic cow. It is a colourful breed that produces lots of milk.

Postmen and Shepards

Regular postal services commenced in Iceland in 1782. The mail carriers' terminus was at Bessastaðir. They travelled on horseback, with pack horses carrying the mail bags. They also carried a Shoulder bag (a) with the royal crest for important letters, and a post horn (b) to signal their approach. "Post offices" were operated at farms. The number of such "offices" rose during the 19th century. Each had its own stamp (c) to frank letters, and scales (d) for weighing mail. The first Icelandic stamps were issued in 1873, designated in Danish currency, shillings. Envelopes and stamps (e) were issued with Icelandic currency values in the latter part of the 19th century.

Shepherds. Simple riding gear was used for the rounding up of livestock and by the poor. Horn stirrups (a), some ornamentally carved, are known from the 17th century onwards, while simpler stirrups were also used, comprising a footrest of wood (b) or whalebone (c), secured by rope. People travelled with saddlebags (d) and liquor flasks (e). Shepherds and other travelers often amused themselves by making up obscene rhymes known as "bone-woman rhymes" (f). Such rhymes were folded and stuck inside bones, which were placed into cairns or "bone-women."

Shoes were usually made of sheepskin or cowhide. Insoles for the shoes were often knitted with decorative motifs. For harder wear, for instance for travelling in bad weather, more durable insoles of horsehair were used. When rounding up livestock, it was necessary to take several pairs of shoes, especially if they were made of fish skin. Boots could be made of sealskin. Wicker shoes were also known.

Week 1 - Definitely Dreaming theme-- Man made

Pot by Brian Delorme

Hand-stitched cowhide rug by Argentinian artisans

Acoma Pueblo is located in the northern New Mexico desert, on top of a 357-foot tall mesa. It was likely founded around 1100 A.D., and is one of the oldest continuously occupied communities in what is now the U.S. It was originally very isolated, and could only be reached by climbing up the mesa wall by a series of hand and toeholds. Nonetheless, the Spanish explorers visited and eventually came into conflict with the residents. And a Catholic mission was established in the early 1600’s, which still stands.

A road now leads to the village, which is only sparsely settled with permanent residents, but remains the site of many traditional festivals, dances & sacred ceremonies. It’s also a popular tourist destination, which is how I came by this seed pot, years ago. The village has always been known for its prolific potters.
