This painting on canvas is part of the Shelburne Museum's 1902 Dentzel carousel. It is one of the panels that would have surrounding the carousel's operating mechanism.
Our senior curator and objects conservator are working with a consultant to survey the costume collection. In the course of conversation about particular pieces in Shelburne Museum's collection, some decorative panels from the 1902 Dentzel carousel came to our object conservator's mind.
While this image might initially appear to simply depict fashionable people walking in a park, the presence of a poorly dressed individual in the background suggests this image is a commentary on social values.
This photo shows intimacy between these two, I also wanted to give it an enchanting feel. I want to show escapism and for me one way would be with love.

Lynn Chadwick (1914-2003) was a trained architectural draughtsman who became a sculptor. A contemporary of Moore and Hepworth, Chadwick's work included three commissions for the Festival of Britain.
Following the decline of the Docklands, and closure in 1980 the Government purchased the site and formed the London Docklands Development Corporation in 1981, granting Enterprise Zone status in 1982. In 1987 Olympia and York agreed a major office development which began in 1988, initially overseen by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and subsequently by Koetter Kim.
The name came from No. 32 berth of the West Wood Quay of the Import Dock. Built in 1936 for Fruit Lines Ltd, a subsidiary of Fred Olsen Lines for the Mediterranean and Canary Islands fruit trade. At their request, the quay and warehouse were given the name Canary Wharf.
The first buildings were completed in 1991 which included One Canada Square, often (including by me) mistakenly called 'Canary Wharf'. The development opened just in time for a recession and collapse of property values, which brought down Olympia and York. In 1995 an international consortium bought the scheme; they were called Canary Wharf Limited, later to became Canary Wharf Group. From then on the development has been bought and sold, but has become established as an outpost of the City of London, and a new financial hub.
