two mallard ducks were seen swimming leisurely in a man made pool at the Richmond Olympic Oval in Richmond BC.
My wife loves our 3 hour morning jaunts several times a week in the countryside looking for barns and wildlife, not because she is into photography although she does like the whole process. No, her enjoyment is more in the fact that as we meander we talk about anything and everything. Who would have thought that simple interaction could keep a woman happy?
These two flickers were only dark spots on the top branches of a tall dead tree when I spotted them and quickly ran off about 20 shots. When I got home and looked at them on my monitor I found this pose that looked pretty special. It is almost like they are on a front porch swing having a chat.
We heard this couple of Hornbills long before we saw them on our excursion at Kapama Nature Reserve in South Africa. It was almost like a song they were singing.
They are also the subjects of my next monochrome animal portrait series.

A photographer on flickr took a photo that inspired me to visit this place a couple decades ago. Revisiting this place over the years with skills I've acquired, it's fascinating to see how my impression and interpretation of this place changes.
In some sense it's unchanged, but over the years i've changed. Changed with a refreshed sense of understanding that's hopefully more deeper and profound.
In a photographer's sense, taking a more mindful sense of what's present and being intentional in lines, tones, and color.
I took one shot digitally and another couple shots with film. Still need to finish the roll of film, but I hope you enjoy this interpretation (however cliche photographing icons like this space is).

A couple of weeks ago I attended the Caliente, Nevada MTB Fest. It was my second time riding there and I love it. The trails are excellent and the landscape is very cool. The trail system in this photo is in Barnes Canyon. It's great high desert terrain with these "Teepee Rocks" as the centerpiece.
It pays to get up early in the summer at Mt. Rainer if you want to avoid the hoards of people. This shot is from the bridge just a mile up from Paradise Inn. Two young bucks happened to wonder in for a drink and luckily posed just long enough for a couple of exposures.
