Minnesota Commercial's Hiawatha Job breaks up a huge convention of Canadian geese next to the ADM mill in South Minneapolis. The geese have the crew members outnumbered well over 30:1.

Since I need some winter images for a proper photo calendar i looked for something worth capturing during those days when we had at least a little bit of snow.
Actually the amount of snow we had wasn’t even enough to cover the grass on this hill, so I cloned out hundreds of grass blades, which was great fun.

This was a tiny low rez photo from a pre-iPhone phone camera. Used LR and Topaz to bring it up to spec; kept the retro feel while raising the pixel count to something more modern. Not a miracle but not too shabby either. This one goes into the family album.
Made it count on the last shot for the year - Northern Plains Railroad has two units hauling one boxcar passing through Alvarado, Minnesota. NPR 5513 retains its CN nose herald, so if you ignore the subtle NPR evidence on the side, you can imagine CN SD60Fs frolicking in the snow. The train has just crossed the Snake River and see the 349 milepost sign - that's 349 track miles from Shoreham Yard in Minneapolis. This arm of the Soo Line served as a grain feeder for the mills in Minneapolis. Countless bushels of grain have passed over the rails here in the Red River Valley heading to Thief River Falls and further on to Minneapolis. They still do just maybe not terminate there.
Here's to wrapping up 2020! On to 2021!

I counted seven buds on this Night Blooming Cereus cactus in my front yard. The buds are small. Yesterday the temperature was in the low nineties Fahrenheit . The buds may grow faster than I thought just last week.
You can always count on a cute little Eastern Phoebe to show up on a walk in the park.

This week I’ve started clearing out my closet of photography gear, selling cameras and lenses one by one. So far, I’ve already let go of three digital bodies, one film body, and three lenses. A few more are photographed and ready to go — and I’m not finished yet.
What began as a simple idea — just getting rid of unused equipment — has turned into a bigger temptation: keeping only the essentials. The pieces I truly enjoy using, the ones that fit how I actually shoot.
This shift comes from last year’s experience, when more than half of my gear sat untouched at home. Most of the time, I relied on just one of my Fujis, my evergreen GF1, or one of the newer additions like the Z30 or R10.
I even toyed with the idea of shrinking everything down to just two cameras — but that might be too radical for a gear addict like me. Instead, I’ve landed on a more balanced plan: fill my four favorite bags. That setup gives me five cameras in total — four digital and one film.
Let’s see how far I can take it.
