4 photos stitched display many details from this part of the village Collioure.

On the nearby summit you can se the old fortification Fort Sant Elme.

A bit under this the Olive Windmill. A photo from my visit in November.

The almond tree is in full flower this fine January day as we hike up from the small village Port-Vendres towards the lighthouse Cap Bear overlooking this part of the Mediterranian.

This summer morning we did a walk from our apartment via Port-Vendres up to the summit with Fort St.Elme and back to Collioure. On the way we was rewarded with this fantastic view to the small village Port-Vendres by the coast of the Mediterranean down here in the South of France

Today the harbor is still having some fishing ships as they always have had.

For some years ago it was central for shipping men and equipment between France and Algeire.

Before that it was the last stop for the big ships going from Marseille via Port-Vendres with immigrants to the attractive USA (for sure a pre Trump period).

Some "barrels" problem with the lines here - but still a good view to this small maritim village.

A fine day in the summer. Perfect to hike up from the old village Collioure to this little fortification above the city: Fort St. Elme.

Rebuild after drawings from Vauban around 1650.

The first origins of the Fort goes back to around 8th century as it was a watchtower up here.

Back in Collioure. This time complete off-season with few people around, only a number of visitors in the weekend.

Regard all the kayaks out there. Some EU Marines training along the shores of the popular beaches in this small Catalan village close to the Spanish borders.

A most charming walk in the fine spring weather goes from the small Village Port-Vendres and out to Cape Bear. Where from the endpoint you can see the rugged coastline and into Spain just some kilometer further South. In France the coast is named Cote Vermeille - after the border to Spain: Costa Brava - continuing right down to Barcelona.

Collioure is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France

There is a record of the castle at "Castrum Caucoliberi" having been mentioned as early as 673, indicating that the settlement here was of strategic and commercial importance during the Visigoth ascendancy.

Collioure was taken in 1642 by the French troops of Maréchal de la Meilleraye. A decade later, the town was officially surrendered to France by the 1659 Treaty of Pyrenees. Because of its highly strategic importance, the town's fortifications, the Château Royal de Collioure and the Fort Saint-Elme stronghold, were improved by the military engineer Vauban during the reign of Louis XIV. Nevertheless, Collioure was besieged and occupied by the Spanish troops in 1793, marking the last Spanish attempt to take the city. The blockade was broken a year later by general Jacques François Dugommier.

4 photos stitched. From the road going up to the Madeloc tower and summit in South of France - close to the Spanish border by the foot of the Pyrenees.

After the harvest there is plenty of work waiting. Cutting branches, clean up fallen leaves etc. Where you see the smoke in the upper left you are also in the maximum height of vine fields in this hilled region. Above this level it is simply too cold for the wine roots to thrive.

BTW a fantastic day in November for a hike up to the Madeloc tower with a perfect vista to all sides when you finally are there - on the summit.

Today another look and walk with a view to the Naval Station and the old lighthouse at Cape Bear, backed by the Mediterranian.

A most popular area for hiking along the cliffs from Port-Vendres and further to Banyuls sur mer.

This time of the year (springtime) the vegetation is green and the first wild flowers is starting to come.

The Lighthouse of the Cap Béar is a monument in the municipality of Port-Vendres (Pyrénées-Orientales, Occitanie). It is an attraction for holidaymakers staying in the region.

At a tiny island by the shores of the Mediterranian Sea is the small chapel of Sant Vincent - the protector of all sailors and fishermen - out there in the ocean doing his job.

Here from a grey day in the early springtime.

From the Catholic online:

Sant Vincent: Martyr. It is known with certainty that he was put to death at Collioure, Gaul (modern France), under Emperor Diocletian (r. 284-305), although his Acts are considered quite unreliable.

From waymarking.com:

On a rocky promontory overlooking the sea, the Chapel of St. Vincent is located at the end of the esplanade of Collioure.

The small chapel dates from 1642 and at that time it was located on a very small rocky island. Sometime in the 19th Century, a dike was built that connects the mainland with the rock on which the chapel stands. According to legend it was on this rock that Saint Vincent was martyred.

The Chapel consists of a single small rectangular room with portal and above the entrance is the simple tower with the single bell.
