Probably the most photographed puddle and reflection in the Dolomites.

Probably one of the most beautiful mountain reflections in the Dolomites, but it is just a puddle of water that the cattle use as a drinking place.

From the Little Lagazuoi (2778 m) you have probably one of the best views of the world of the Dolomites.

This second panorama from the summit shows the mountains around Cortina d'Ampezzo in an easterly direction.

Croda da Lago, Lastoi de Formin and Antelao as seen from Scoiattoli hut at Cinque Torri. This is the view to the Southeast but i bet everywhere you look you are bound to be left speechless like i was.

The ultimate hot tub experience, i guess, something for real men only, considering the air temperature and the brutal wind gusts of that day. In reality, i saw nobody dare to get in the tub during my lunch break there at Rifugio Scoiattoli. Guests staying at the refuge have the possibility to enjoy a bath in the wood-fired hot tub at an additional cost and upon prior agreement. A complimentary bottle of champagne is included in the offer.

I don't think this has much to do with my original idea of "mountain" but i have to admit i tend to mellow out with age so, who knows, one day i might even indulge in a relaxing soak in a hot water tub somewhere on top of my beloved Dolomites without feeling out of place.

The mind-blowing scenery will certainly help me take that tough decision.

Happy New Year to all my flickr friends!

May the light be with you in 2022

Earth Day is taking place for the 50th time this year.

My photographic contribution:

Dolomite landscape west of Cortina d'Ampezzo.

I took the panorama last year from the summit of the "Little Lagazoui", a fantastic panoramic mountain with a 360 ° panorama.

A brief but brutal wind storm that almost froze my hands and my camera. Great moment, though...

I really wanted to show you this beauty in all its glory but the constant cloud cover and the rain only allowed a few quick shots....next time i'll check the weather forecasts...

Cortina d'Ampezzo Anpezo, Ampëz; historical Austrian German: Hayden) is a town and comune in the heart of the southern (Dolomitic) Alps in the province of Belluno, in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. Situated on the Boite river, in an alpine valley, it is an upscale summer and winter sport resort known for its skiing trails, scenery, accommodation, shops and après-ski scene, and for its jet set and Italian aristocratic crowd.

In the Middle Ages, Ampezzo fell under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Aquileia and of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1420 it was conquered by the Republic of Venice. From 1508, it then spent much of its history under Habsburg rule, briefly undergoing some territorial changes under Napoleon, before being returned to the Austrian Empire (later Austria-Hungary), which held it until 1918. From the nineteenth century, Cortina d'Ampezzo became a notable regional centre for crafts. The local handmade products were appreciated by early British and German holidaymakers as tourism emerged in the late nineteenth century. Among the specializations of the town were crafting wood for furniture, the production of tiled stoves, and iron, copper and glass items.

Today, the local economy thrives on tourism, particularly during the winter season, when the population of the town typically increases from about 7,000 to 40,000. The Basilica Minore dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo was built between 1769 and 1775 on the site of two former thirteenth and sixteenth-century churches; it is home to the parish and the deanery of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The town also contains the Rinaldo Zardini Palaeontology Museum, established in 1975, the Mario Rimoldi Modern Art Museum, and the Regole of Ampezzo Ethnographic Museum.

This beautiful (very) old church has a real Christmas feel to me.

Dolomiten, Dolomites, Dolomiti

30 minutes walk from Rifugio Angelo Dibona

It has already been more than three years since my trip to the Dolomites. A trip I still consider as one of the best in my life. The Dolomites are so scenic.

This shot was long on my posting list, (and I still have a few more from this trip :)). On top of the Monte Lagazuoi you have a 360 degrees view on the surrounding landscape. (Earlier I already posted these two shots www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/53051075772/in/datepo..., www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/52347083663/in/datepo...).

Enjoy!
