This was taken during a Sculpture by the Sea when the old Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club building was up and running. The club began its beach patrols in the early 1900’s. It has a great record of not having lost a life while patrolling the beach, despite Tamarama being (surprisingly for such a well-patronised beach) one of the most dangerous beaches in NSW, due to its large swell and fixed rip currents.
Unfortunately the club's $4.6 million upgrade hit a snag when its construction company Lloyd Group collapsed in 2023. It is hoped the new building will open during 2025.
