This Making of film was created by our creative director Andrew Diey who wanted to capture the magic that goes into the scoring and designing sound to the off-beat and wonderful visuals.
This is all about how we go about creating a piece of work .. from initial foley stages through to the end mix process in the studio.
How we did it: Filming all aspects of the sound recording process and capturing the performance by Ben who is one of our in-house creative directors. We wanted to be able to share what goes into the sound creation from the musical performances, to the home-brew software [yes we write our own software] and the home-brew boxes which give us a unique spin on how to take our sound design into unusual yet rewarding areas. Magnus also makes an appearance in this film, He is head of production.

Background: London production house Taylor James approached Radium to create the sound design journey for Rolex new adverts.
Our vision was to create sound vignettes which resonated with each of the watches personality and authentic attitude.
How we did it: The music score becomes interwoven into the sound journey. We wanted to capture the heart of the watch so we investigated how to capture the sound of the sweeping movement and the coils within. The watches were too quiet so we researched and found a microphone in Japan which was designed to capture the heartbeat of a snail and originally intended for Japans national TV.
We snapped up this microphone and applied it to the watches, which gave us a microscope into the world and sound of Rolex and its inner most movements. We applied these to adverts and you are able to hear the sound has become a living soul as well as a painted picture.
Sounds we created: Music scores, sweeping, movement, sonic landscape, swooshes, sparkles, impacts and sonic love.

Project: Creation of a Sonic Toolkit

Brand: Action for Children
Background: When Advertising Agency, Baby Creative asked Radium Audio to develop the sonic identity for a growing brand - the children’s charity, Action for Children - Creative Director Andrew Diey seized the opportunity for Radium Audio to deliver a ‘sonic toolkit’ for use across all the charity’s media touch points.
As marketing professionals become aware of the importance of the sonic identity in relation to communication of a brand, Radium Audio is at the forefront of this development.
The ‘sonic toolkit’ contains 15 individual sonic tools: Extended versions of the “as long it takes” advertising campaign music score, sound mnemonics at varying durations, digital button clicks for online & Powerpoint use, Action for Children themes which have been extended for phone systems, and a master theme for use at live events and presentations.
How we did it: Radium Creative Director, Andrew Diey explains the approach, “Having scored the music for 4 of the TVC and Radio adverts last year we knew people had empathy for the work of the charity and we wanted to extend this affinity through emotive connection into as many platforms as possible. When we were asked by Baby Creative to develop a sonic identity, we felt that there was a deeper connection to be made between Action for Children and its supporters so we suggested that Radium Audio creates a “sonic toolkit” for all possible channels and varying lengths, formats etc. We gave Action for Children rights to use the content across as many channels as they needed”
Baby Creative was receptive to the idea and worked with Radium Audio to develop a brief for the ‘Sonic Toolkit’.
Says Diey, “We specialize in articulating the essence and soul of a brand using sound and as this sonic toolkit is a global first for a charity, we created a short film to accompany the creative process behind the story”

Background: We were asked to score the music & sound design by Jon & JWT on the new Trident Burst advert.
We wanted to create a score which reflected the inspired pictures of the crystal comet impacting into the ground, representing the cool fresh bursts and the sense of wonderment of the crystals impacting.
How we did it: Our approach on this project was to capture a sense of magic for the music and the sound design to do this we scored using upright acoustic piano, and layered the sound design in with lots of recorded objects to create a tinkling “sound” this shimmering sound was created using bell trees and french wind chimes which gave us some great source material to start digitally shaping into a fuller score.
The sound design was managed separately at first and then we integrated this into the full score which gives us a sense of unison on the full score
Sounds we created include: Shimmer, Atmos, Wind textures, Comet crystalline textures, sparkle, twinkles and music score.
