Snootli Peak as seen from Bella Coola Eagle Lodge.

At the head of North Bentinck Arm British Columbia is the town of Bella Coola. There is some floating homes around the area and judging by the firewood on the deck this one appears to be getting ready for winter. The burned pilings belonged to the BC Packers building known as the Old Cannery. The building was consumed by a fire which was deliberately set in June of 2019.

Here's link to my previous pictures of the cannery taken in 2018.

If you are waiting for a bus to come,

though it takes forever

You stand freezing and get irritated

Cool it down! There'll be more coming

If you run at the Central Station

"Take a seat and close the doors!"

Just when you arrive, it goes away

Cool it down! There'll be more coming

It can be quite difficult, but I promise

Cool it down! There'll be more coming

Nothing can make you touch, stumble or disturbed

Nothing can annoy you and get you out of balance,

if what you're thinking about

getting a chance, somewhere else

If you just take it easy and quiet

You'll see, you'll fix it

Though I really want to scream,

and give way,

I do understand, the calm that is required in the situation

make me understand just that

Have you lost your reservation number,

so you do not get a ticket?

You'll see when the plane is taking off

Cool it down! There'll be more coming

It can be quite difficult, but I promise

Cool it down! There'll be more coming

I do not want to whine, cry out loud and shout

I do not want to scream that someone has made a mistake

I take it beautifully

Calm and fine, take it fine

If you count really fast to hundred,

you'll see you fix it

Though I really want to scream,

and give way,

I do understand, the calm that is required in the situation,

make me understand just that

So what is the sensory morale itself,

why you should keep calm ?

There is no point in getting crazy,

and acting stupid, no!

Whatever happens,

how ever bad it can end up,

you can actually take it easy

Because there are always more buses,

and the last train has not gone,

and you can fly with another airplane,

so cool it down! There'll be more coming

The coastal mountains are in the background and if you plan on driving here you have to drive over them!

This subadult bird showed up near Bella Coola in Firvale. It's the longest twitch I've ever done. Was cool to get bird #419 for BC after driving so far. On top of it all as an added bonus I got to see a Grizzly Bear.

After doing the 'Grouse Grind' (a 2.9 km hike with an elevation gain of 853 metres) in Vancouver, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Grinder and Coola, some grizzly bears living in the Grouse Mountain Refuge for Endangered Wildlife. The splash is from an apple that was one of several being tossed in the water for a snack. I think this is Grinder.

Comming home from Bella Coola , just happened to spot this scene. Had to jump on the breaks and back up. The "No Vacany " sign was on so we continued on our way and got a room with indoor plumbing.

British Columbia Packers LTD fish cannery now used to store fishing nets.

Unfortunately it was set on fire and destroyed in June of 2019.

HMBT !

I needed to give inspiration to a friend considering a motorcycle purchase. We travelled to Bella Coola in an old Ford Ranger. This part of BC Highway 20 is still dirt. The British Columbian mid-coast town is served by BC Ferries though.

In September 2022 we took a ferry from Port Hardy on Vancouver Island to Bella Coola on British Columbia's Central Coast.

The ferry, Northern Sea Wolf, is a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ferry that connects Port Hardy with Bella Coola in the summer months. Interestingly, the ferry loads and unloads from the rear; the first few vehicles can turn around inside before backing into their designated parking spot. Long vehicles and the ones pulling trailers have to back in along with the last remaining cars. Unlike other BC ferries, motorcycles are the last to load, as they're the first ones off. The ship travels through the Inside Passage before turning into the Burke Channel and eventually Bella Coola at the end of the North Bentinck Arm. The voyage takes about ten hours during daylight, so passengers can enjoy the scenery, which is spectacular. Along the route there are lighthouses, navigation markers, fish and pleasure boats, numerous islands, whales, and other wildlife. The abandoned community of Namu can be seen as the ferry travels past it. This small ship has a capacity of about 35 vehicles.

I asked this lovely lady to sit on the dock and pose for me as she photographed the lake. This is Anahim Lake in central British Columbia and the dock belongs to Eagle's Rest Lodge, and it was a great place to stop for the night. The views are spectacular, and the lake is teeming with fish which are constantly jumping. The fish are naturally hatched here and not stocked.

The Tallheo Cannery built in 1905 and today it's a museum and B&B. It's 3 km (2 miles) from Bella Coola on the other side of Bentwick Arm.

This is the view from the Heckman Pass summit.. It's 24km to

the bottom of the pass on a very narrow slippery trail with

grades of up to 15%.... It was a rather scary experience !!

Coola is a 20 year old male Grizzly Bear who shares a 5.5 acre protected habitat on Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver BC with a fellow Grizzly named Grinder. The cubs were orphaned and found in two separate locations in British Columbia. Although unrelated they are inseparable. Coola is the larger of the two currently weighing in at 860 lb. They will gain 200-250 lb. prior to their winter hibernation.

Talheo Cannery on Bella Coola Harbour

Close encounter. I am glad he is a vegetarian :)

My interpretation of the key board for the workers' lodgings in the office of the abandoned Tallheo Salmon Cannery in Bella Coola, BC. There were three categories: "Norwegians," "Indians," and a racist term for "Chinese." Those were tough times in a remote maze of winding ocean fjords set among steep, snow-capped mountains. I recently enjoyed a week-long Abstract photo workshop at this beautifully decrepit cannery.

The green sign beside the road bridge on Highway 20 is almost the only visible hint of colour after a brief but comprehensive snow-fall came upon us as we headed for the port of Bella Coola in western British Columbia.

Can flowers of rust be beautiful? This image was made at a wonderfully picturesque abandoned old salmon cannery across a deep ocean fjord from Bella Coola, British Columbia, far north up the rugged coast from Vancouver. The surroundings were steep forests and snow-capped mountains. A funky and beautiful setting with a small group of lovely people as hosts and comrades.

Bella Coola is located on the central coast of British Columbia. The Bella Coola valley has a population of approximately 2100. It is located at the mouth of the Bella Coola River which empties into the north Bentinick Arm, one of the many inlets surrounded by high mountain peaks on the B.C. coast.

Grinda and Coola are two rescued Frizzly bears that roam in a 5 acre plot in Grouse Mountain Sanctuary. They were rescued as cubs when they were around 6 months old. Grinder was found emaciated and dehydrated on a forestry service road near Invermere in the BC Rocky Mountain range. Coola was found near Bella Coola on the BC Coast, next to his mother who had been killed by a vehicle. Grinder and Coola were orphaned in the wild and rescued in May 2001 which now makes them 23 years old. Grouse Mountain monitors Grinder and Coola 365 days a year with webcams.

I went to Bella Coola to photograph Grizzly bears, since the are is well knowsRead...

This is the view going into the town... Harvest is done and I'm taking a short vacation... I will catch up with everyone later..Thanks :)

What a joy to come across this happy little fella today. He is 5 months old and his name is Ace.

Ace was rescued from Bella Coola which, as the crow flies, is 427.81 km (265.83 miles) northwest up the coast from Vancouver.

Little Ace is a Chihuahua / Boston Terrier mix. He is as spunky and lovable as they come.

Back in Sept 2015 I had the unique opportunity along with a co-worker to do a river float on the Atnarko/Bella Coola River during the end of the salmon run; with the hopes of seeing some Grizzly bears feeding on the salmon.

Upon first arriving at the launch site - we saw this big ole boy on the far bank, a bit upstream,. He is known as Bent-ear - as he is missing a good chunk of his left ear.

Though he did not catch any salmon while we watched he did give us many good photo opportunities despite being somewhat back lit in the late day sun.

All constructive comments are appreciated... TIA.

Driving along Highway 20 to Bella Coola, snow began to fall as we climbed toward Heckman Pass. This early Autumn flurry briefly transformed an ordinary roadside stream into a Winter Wonderland. A couple of hours later, on our return journey, it had all disappeared.
