Cyber conversion unit:
So this is a pretty simple design, the basic just of it is that processed humans will be placed onto a conversion crane apparatus, which will lower them into the conversion unit chamber (it's a small rounded chamber under the main level) the chamber houses a conversion unit, a curved framework with operating arms and equipment for conversion. The rounded grate is used to filter out unwanted or discarded organic parts. Once the human is fully converted, the crane will lift them out and into the stasis chambers. The conversion chamber is then sterilised, ready for the next conversion.

The work was mainly front based with windscreens dash grille and lights all being spruced up in the conversion to meet east lancs spec to represent the real thing! Repeatedly, I see our friends having problems understanding and making the best use of Raw Conversion. There is actually a lot that can be done, while converting a raw file. If you can make the best of the tools available, you actually don't need to do much in post processing at all.

This was done in Photoshop CS2. I may at some point do a similar interface tutorial for CS3 if the interest level happened to be high enough.
The 2nd half was a complete turn around from the first. Whatever Bath had in their half time cup of tea seemed to work as they ran out 27-21 winners thanks to two late tries.

Former Aer Lingus Airbus A321-211 EI CPH stored at Lasham Hampshire (EGHL), rumoured to be converted to cargo soon and already has a new registration VP CBO but not applied as yet. Originally delivered to Aer Lingus in Sep 1999 and wfu Mar 2020, later a period of storage at Ciudad Real Spain from Oct 2020 before arriving at Lasham Feb 2022.
Update:- This airliner departed Lasham in Feb 2023 and is now stored at Seletar Airport Singapore awaiting conversion to cargo configuration, correct as at April 2023.

Ahhh! DC-10!
Ex Laker Airways G-GFAL. BCA Charter & British Caledonian Charter, renamed Cal-Air International and later Novair International.
First flown by McDonnell Douglas in Dec-78 using the test registration N1002D, this aircraft was delivered to Laker Airways in Feb-79 as G-GFAL. Laker Airways ceased operations on 05-Feb-82 and the aircraft was repossessed by Mitsui Leasing.
The Rank Leisure Group and Thomson Holidays had a big summer charter programme with Laker Airways and were suddenly short of capacity. They entered into discussions with British Caledonian Airways and as a result B.Cal and Rank Leisure formed British Caledonian Charter with a 51%/49% holding.
The leases of 2 Laker DC-10-10's were transferred and British Caledonian took delivery of G-GFAL on 22-Feb-82 when it was re-registered G-BZJD. It was transferred to British Caledonian (Charter) Ltd on 01-Mar-82.
The company was renamed Cal Air International Airways in Oct-85. When B.Cal was taken over by British Airways, they didn't want Cal Air (they already had British Airtours which became Caledonian Airways Mk:2) and B.Cal's 51% was sold to the Rank Leisure Group.
Cal Air was renamed Novair International in Dec-88. Rank Leisure closed the company down at the end of Mar-90 (and I was out of a job!). The aircraft was initially stored at Prestwick, Scotland, and later, ferried to Waco, TX, USA in Nov-90 for continued storage.
It was sold to ILFC International Lease Finance Corporation in Nov-92 as N581LF and remained stored at Waco until Feb-94 when was converted into a freighter with a main-deck cargo door and leased to FedEx Federal Express as N10060 in Aug-94.
In Nov-08 it underwent the MD-10 conversion with the MD-11 'glass cockpit' and 2 crew operation. Sadly, this aircraft was finally retired in Jan-21 after an amazing 42 years in service. Updated 14-Sep-22.
It's Texture week at 52 in 2017. I decided it was a good time to pull out my little conversion lens and see what I could find in the garden. This is a close-up of the dried center of a bee balm blossom a good bit past its prime.
This large masonry building was erected in 1895 as the principal offices and warehouse for Burns, Philp & Company Ltd, one of North Queensland's most successful trading enterprises.
The firm was founded in Townsville in 1873, when James Burns established a general retail business in Flinders Street. Robert Philp (later Sir Robert, KCMG and twice Queensland premier) acquired a share in the business in 1876. Due to ill health, Burns returned to Sydney in 1877, leaving Philp to manage the Townsville store.
In the late 1870s and early 1880s, Burns and Philp individually established trading networks in North Queensland, which were amalgamated as Burns, Philp & Company Ltd in 1883. By 1887 the company had disposed of their retail concerns, concentrating on the importation and wholesaling of general merchandise, and general shipping and insurance, with branches in London, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Thursday Island, Normanton, Charters Towers, Cooktown, and New Guinea. The firm was employing 300 persons, owned their own fleet of small trading vessels, and was pioneering trade, communications and exploration throughout North Queensland, New Guinea, and the South Pacific. The company also had interests in North Queensland sugar, gold, and pastoralism. Although Robert Philp was bankrupted in the 1890s and resigned his interests in the firm in 1893, the name of Burns, Philp & Company Ltd was retained.
In Townsville, Burns, Philp & Company Ltd had acquired approximately 200 metres of Ross Creek frontage, on which they erected wharves and warehouses, with their offices in an old building which had been erected in the 1860s for Robert Towns and John Melton Black, the founders of Townsville. By 1895, Burns, Philp & Company Ltd dominated trade in Townsville, and their importance to this town and to North Queensland in general was illustrated in the erection of substantial new premises.
The new building was erected in nine months by contractor GS Gordon, and was opened on the 12th of November 1895. It was designed by Sydney architects the McCredie Brothers. Claude Chambers, in partnership with the McCredies from 1889 - 1893, supervised the construction of this building to the design of George McCredie. Arthur McCredie designed Burns, Philp & Company Ltd's principal Sydney offices, completed in 1901 and extended in 1909.
The two-storeyed section with frontages to Wickham and Flinders Streets housed the main offices: the shipping department on the ground floor and the manager's office and cashiers' and correspondence department on the upper floor. There was also a strong room and lavatory at each level. The three-storeyed section fronting Flinders Street was mainly warehousing, although the merchandise department, and behind this, the spirit room, were located on the ground floor adjacent to the shipping office, and accessed from this office via a door beneath the front staircase.
The building was designed for expansion. The walls, including the north-western end wall of the warehouse, were constructed with bricked-in arches to facilitate later extensions. In 1903 the company planned a three-storeyed brick extension to the warehouse along Flinders Street; this scheme was not carried out, but in 1913 - 1914 a long, single-storeyed, concrete warehouse extension was erected (no longer extant).
In 1922, the company's architect in Townsville, Walter Hunt, designed alterations to the offices and ground floor of the warehouse, extending the office area. These were carried out in three stages during 1922 and 1923. At this period, the arches separating the shipping and merchandising departments were exposed, and the large arched doorway from Flinders Street into the warehouse was bricked in, and three windows were placed in the bay.
On the 22nd of January 1949, fire gutted two floors of the hardware section of the building, causing substantial damage to the interior of the warehouse, including the collapse of the first floor. The roof and floors were replaced.
Burns, Philp & Company Ltd retained the building until 1977. At this stage the two-storeyed section was converted into a night club, a doorway was cut in the second end bay of the former warehouse, and the latter was converted to office accommodation. The building (including the former office accommodation) has largely been used as an entertainment venue since its initial conversion, with the property transferred to new owners in 2021.

Focus of this conversion has been the front end which as generally followed my Streetdeck process to create a fair representation of the real bus.
Windscreen is a home-made attempt which is ok, but needs further development and the next build, currently under way, will incorporate a few tweaks to this arrangement to help soften things a little.
The next one will also be lengthened to properly match the dimensions of the extended East Coast Buses prototype.
The Eclipse 2 donor is shown as comparison.
while in albay, bicol, philippines my son and i came across this old cemetery , which is always a lure for a taphophile like me. took photos of some niches and gravestones, some dating back to the 19th century. after some research and investigation i found out that the land of this cemetery had been sold and will be due for conversion and development into a mall or a shopping centre. well, i'm lucky i was able to take some photos for posterity. here are some images of this moment

The donor for the Streetdeck conversion was the OOC Lancashire United Gemini Mark 1 with the frontal difference being illustrated in the photo.
Plans, even dimensions, for the Streetdeck are virtually impossible to get hold of, so the whole conversion is based on my own plans drawn up from photos and what dimensions I could find. I don't have access to any of the real things either, so the finished model does not set out to be a 100% accurate scale model, just a decent representation of the First Vantage bus.

This Panther Triaxle was created from a standard 12M OOC Panther and Paragon which had both seen better days.
I've found it
a bit of a pain to do, certainly when compared with the recent Van Hool one, with extensions needed to both wheelbase and rear overhang, and a real problem keeping everything 'square' and true. But has eventually turned out ok.
Could be a long time before I attempt another one of these!

One of the 142 former Police Boxes in Edinburgh.
Most, if not all have been sold off and have new uses as coffee bars or tour guide stations.
The Police Box Network dates from 1932 and this is evidenced by the fact that most have sinks installed with the date embedded in them. Most were designed by City Architect Ebenezer MacRae and manufactured by Carron Ironworks of Falkirk. The boxes used to have sirens on top and were used by officers to phone into the station, report and get further instructions. The aforementioned sink in each box served as an urinal, washing facility and a tap to provide refreshment.

the conversion of constantine, and thereby the late roman empire, has had an enormous impact on world history. i have always wondered how a break away minor jewish sect based on the short and confused ministry of yeshua ben pantera was transformed into the christian juggernaut. the early christian community (from the death of yeshua to the 4th century) was an often persecuted lot. the common history is that christ appeared to constantine before the battle at pons milvius (where constantine was leading a machiavellian challenge for the control of the western half of the roman empire against the legitimate emperor) and bid him to follow the banner of the cross to victory. after said victory under said banner, constantine relaxed proscriptions against the christian community, and eventually adopted christianity as the legal state religion of the empire. this formal sanction led to the explosive political growth of the church [catholic and otherwise] and is the reason we worship christ the savior.
however, but for a figurative coin toss of history, we would be praying to mithra the redeemer. mithra who? you say. mithraism was another near east faith based on a son of god as savior motif very popular in the eastern half of the roman empire at the time of constantine.

the cult of mithra (sidebar) was revered as a light-bringer, a protector and judge of immortal souls. mithra the god-figure remained celibate throughout his life, and valued self-control, renunciation and resistance to sensuality among his worshippers. mithras represented a system of ethics in which brotherhood was encouraged in order to unify against the forces of evil. mithraic rituals involved the symbolic consumption of wine/blood and bread/flesh, baptismal purification, and celebrated the birthday of mithra on december 25th. sound familar? consider then, that the myth of mithra predates christianity by many many centuries. cross-pollination of myths and ethos in the ancient near east was very common. it is important to understand that there is no single pure theology. they are all quilt-work.
the mithraic belief system was focused on the role of mithra as enforcer of truth. the avesta, the zoroastrian holy book, relates that ahura-mazda, the zoroaster Lord figure, sent mithra to guarantee the sanctity of promises and bonds. in fact, mithra is persian for 'contract'. mithras was worshipped as guardian of arms, and patron of soldiers and armies. the handshake was developed by those who worshipped him as a token of friendship and as a gesture to show that you were unarmed. when mithras later became the Roman god of contracts, the handshake gesture was imported throughout the mediterranean and europe by roman soldiers.
mithraism was adopted first by the roman legions garrisoned in the east during the republic. i presume they were attracted to its emphasis on honor, strength, and action. by the late empire under diocletian (284 - 305 AD), mithra was the de facto (and de jure) state religion. mithraic temples, known as mithraeum, were found at all corners of the empire, from northern england to northern africa.
mithraism was a revealed mystery faith. you did not merely convert to mithraism with a ritual baptism and declaration of submission. like the free masons, you had to be chosen and initiated in secret ceremonies into the ranks of the believers. perhaps this was a critical shortcoming of the faith in competition against the more liberal membership rites of christianity. an initiate was first required to prove their courage and strength in tests of danger (crossing swift rivers, jumping through fire bound and blindfolded, etc...) the mithraic initiation process led the acolyte through seven stages of greater revealed knowledge: Corax (Raven), Nymphus (Male Bride), Miles (Soldier), Leo (Lion), Peres (Persian), Heliodromus (Sun-Runner), and Pater (Father); each respective grade protected by Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, the Moon, the Sun, and Saturn.
mithraism was the faith of the realm for several centuries before constantine supplanted it. but for his conversion, the west, and the world would be a dramatically different place.
