On May 29, 2024, bargaining between the University of Oregon Student Workers union and the university administration officially began. Student workers and supporters rallied at Johnson Hall at 12 p.m. and then marched over to the Erb Memorial Union, where the bargaining session occurred. The previous day, the union delivered a letter with nearly 1,500 signatures to the administration demanding open bargaining - the right for everyone to be present at the proceedings and see the proposals for themselves. Just minutes before bargaining began, the university agreed to that demand.
The bargaining session was slated to begin at 12:30 but administration negotiators arrived nearly 30 minutes late. Roughly an hour later, it was over; the union presented a hefty list of contract demands including greatly increased wages, better stipends for resident assistants, a shortened pay cycle, more transparent scheduling, free shift meals, improved healthcare coverage, and non-discrimination and anti-harassment measures. The university did not present a counter-proposal or respond in any way to the proposed clauses.

The Conference of the High Contracting Parties to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) was held today at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat under the theme “Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia: Reflections and Future Direction.” The Conference serves as a platform for the High Contracting Parties (HCPs) to the TAC to reaffirm their commitment to the principles of the TAC, discuss the implementation of the TAC and ways to enhance the relevance of the Treaty in the region and beyond, as well as explore future potential cooperation under the framework of the TAC. Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn delivered opening remarks during the opening session of the Conference. The Conference was chaired by Chair of the Committee of the Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and the Permanent Representative of Lao PDR to ASEAN Bovonethat Douangchak, and was attended by the HCPs to the TAC as represented by their Ambassadors accredited to ASEAN/Indonesia or their representatives.
