This poster presents my ongoing work in using blockchain-backed decentralized applications to create what are known as "smart-contracts.” I suggest a number of ways that these applications can help to protect shared intellectual property rights in digital commons, and in turn how this can lead to sustainable collective action. This poster describes the motivation for using smart-contracts in this setting, and provides three use-cases: public digital libraries, research data archives, and music sharing networks.

Stagecoach 47483 leaves the bus station with a service for Holme Slack on route 14. Stagecoach recently gained the contract to work evening and Sunday services on the route. The route has for many years been worked by Preston Bus who continue to work the daytime service.

Sopranos alumna Drea de Matteo is joining Desperate Housewives this season, and she's bringing a small mob of her own with her — in the form of a husband and a son.
De Matteo has been cast in a series regular role, an ABC rep confirms, ostensibly offsetting the loss of Nicollette Sheridan's Edie, who perished toward the end of Season 5. De Matteo's Bronx-bred Wisteria Lane newcomer arrives in town with a husband and 19-year-old son in tow.
Based on the arrival script for de Matteo's character, she's for certain a fish out of water, having traded the noise and grime of New York City for a serene (ha, little does she know) picket-fenced life on Wisteria Lane.
De Matteo's on-screen family has yet to be cast, but it appears that the son will attempt to strike a spark with one of the neighborhood girls. (Perhaps Gaby's freshly introduced bad-girl niece?) The husband, meanwhile, seems likeable enough — if a bit, um, flirty.
De Matteo's casting was first reported by EW.com's Ausiello.

This photograph of a girl by a chess board was shot indoors by a window in the late afternoon. The sunny, natural lighting was hitting the subject from the side. The compositional technique "leading lines" was used to draw the viewer's eye to the subject and add visual interest.

The Central Viaduct, built between 1887-88, was a high-level bridge that linked the east and west sides of Cleveland. It stood where the Innerbelt Bridge (I-90) is now located. In Mar. 1879 Councilman Jas. M. Curtiss introduced a resolution asking that the city engineer undertake to determine the best site for a bridge linking downtown with neighborhoods southwest of Cleveland across the CUYAHOGA RIVER.
The resolution met with some opposition and was not passed until 1883. The council authorized an expenditure of $1 million, and ground was finally broken in May 1887. The city engineer's office furnished the design and construction specifications, and the KING IRON BRIDGE & MANUFACTURING CO. was contracted to do most of the construction. Opened on 2 Dec. 1888, the Central Viaduct consisted of 2 bridges. The first structure, known as the Central Viaduct, was 2,839' long and extended from Jennings Ave. (W. 14th) to Central Ave. (Carnegie). Known as a "stilt" type, the bridge consisted of a series of braced towers and deck spans of varying lengths. Originally it had a swing section over the river to allow taller ships to pass, which was replaced in 1912 with an overhead truss. The roadway was approx. 100' above the river. On the night of 16 Nov. 1895, a safety switch failed while the draw was open, causing a streetcar to plunge into the river; 17 people were killed. Closed as unsafe in 1941, the main bridge was razed for scrap iron during World War II. The second bridge, known as the Walworth Run section, was 1,088' long and connected Abbey Ave. to Lorain Ave. at W. 25th. It continued in use until 1986, when a new Abbey Ave. bridge was begun to replace it.

I photographed some of my lawn contracts the last couple of days. I'm pretty happy with how nice my lawns are looking. I am also still learning the settings on my camera so not all the photos took as well as I would have liked but all things in time. :D

ORNGE, under contract to Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long-Term care operates Ontario's air ambulance system. Right now, they're this type, but they have just signed a contract for new chopers. This is either 7797 or 7794 (we know it as 797 as all air units in Ontario have "7" as the first digit in their identifying number) sitting on the pad at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
This is quite literally a life saver for those of us in Emergency Services in the north of Ontario, where transit times to hospitals can very quickly exceed an hour. It should be noted that this chopper is in the old colour scheme, and I'm not sure whether it is out of Thunder Bay (797) or Kenora (794), as the helicopters themselves will often change, but their unit numbers won't.
Members of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers (the "Iron Workers Union") protest the use of rebar by Baker DC -- a concrete construction company.
The rebar was supplied by Carolina Rebar, a company which is not unionized. The Iron Workers Union wants Baker DC to buy its rebar from a unionized company.
This protest, which included drummers and union workers with noisemakers, occurred on 14th Street NW between L Street NW and Massachusetts Avenue NW on April 25, 2012.
