The Brickhaven Gazette would like to thank everyone who entered the League of Lego Heroes Alternate Contest. Here are some of my personal favourites. But there can be only one winner, who will get access to a digital set of custom superhero themed newspaper decals designed by me. Everyone who entered will also gain access to a set of superhero themed newspaper digital decals available for them to print and use for free. Winner and further details inside. (See below).

So finally I'm getting to my contest! Here's a unique idea ;) This contest is gonna be re-create a custom contest! You grab one of your old customs and re-create it! Here are the rules!

1. The recreated custom has to be at least 6 months to a year old (so I know that you can improve on it)

2. This contest will last a month! (extensions will be given)

3. For any customizers that are new you can try to make a new version of your oldest custom!

4. Purist figures aren't allowed (sorry guys!)

5. Maximum number of entries is 3! But

remember quality over quantity.

A really creative idea and I love the little robots on a horse and donkey each.

Great little system representations of the original 6 toa! Admittedly I have some slight issues with the proportions and shaping in places but I think it’s greatly out-wayed outweighed by the positives. Fantastic presentation too!

Great castle build here! You absolutely nailed the rockwork and the rickety wooden bridges.

Crystal Dragon and Stone Protector by Valtarshol Ceirn

I really like both of these but in particular the dragon. The shaping is quite nice and I personally have a BIG soft spot for crystals in leg builds.

The Matoran Kingdom by unpixelled

Well this at least gets points for effort I can say that. I love the idea of turning the mata nui robot into a giant walking castle. It does lean a little hard on size over polish. I think a smaller build where you could spend more time polishing it would have gone a long way, but it’s still really cool regardless! I especially like all the details you put in like the trebuchet and the vines.

Simple but effective! Cute little build combining classic castle and classic bionicle.

Really great knight build here! Not 100% sure about the face but I appreciate the risk taken with it. I especially like how the armour pieces fit together nicely and the mace.

Very nice interpretation of the theme and some stellar techniques going on here too!

Temple of Xalax by Optimus Convoy

While a simple build I appreciate the initiative and creativity taken to make a cool looking building out of bionicle pieces.

There were tons of other great entries that I haven’t listed here but please don’t feel disheartened, you all did a great job and I’m thrilled with the response from everyone! (especially given the odd theme)

The Black Falcon army moves quickly through the farmland, their presence barely disturbing the tranquil landscape. As they approach a small, narrow bridge, they are met by a modest but determined group of Lion Knights, standing firm in their defense.

Much of this scene was built for LOLUG's Castle Village Collaboration, but the bridge and this scene in the foreground were created for Brickscalibur's "Perspective Matters" category where the task was to create an immersive scene.

In hindsight, my original 300 follower contest was probably a little hard to follow. Since Its been around 3 weeks and there have been a whopping zero entries, I’ve decided to do a different contest, one that should hopefully be simpler.

The new contest involves the green lantern mythos, one of my favourite parts of the DC mythos, alongside the new gods. Your task: Create your own OC Lantern character. It can be from any of the Corps from the comics (even the two new ones in Rebirth, as little as I know or care about them). The character could be a self-insert of you as a lantern or an entirely original character (they don’t even have to be human, you could use an alien species from the comics or even make one up).

The entry can be realised through Lego, drawing or any other medium that meets your fancy. What I expect is a good, unique design with a backstory. I am not demanding a complex 10 paragraph odyssey, just something to get who the character is across, but if you want to go all out with the story, don’t let me stop you.

Prizes. I can’t do anything physically unfortunately, but that shouldn’t be what this is about. My hope is to get people to put out their designs and gain the satisfaction if they get a placement. However, I do have some rewards in mind.

All winners, 3rd, 2nd and 1st, will get a shoutout. 2nd and 1st place will have their characters named dropped in my GL Series. 1st place will earn the opportunity to change my Flickr name to something of their choice, regardless of how ridiculous it is. I will keep that name for 2 weeks, before returning to my normal one (I figure a good incentive to get people to enter would be the opportunity to watch me suffer).

The Idea here is to create something new and Unique based off sources people currently haven't used.

Painted Customs, decals and purists can enter

Figures can be based on whatever characters you want, HOWEVER more adventurous designs will get you significantly higher points. Perhaps mix two themes, (i.e Star Wars and Romans or batman and Cowboys) I do Not want to see generic marvel/DC figures based off of any onscreen or comic book portrayals.

BONUS HINTS:

Congrats you read on, so here's you reward:

1. One thing I particularly favour in figs is attention to detail. This may not be simply lots and lots of detail, perhaps a particular 'jaw line' on a helmet or visor which is clean cut and sharply angled. Getting specific details right will earn additional points.

2. Secondly the images above are all 'expressive'. Whether it's a stylised robe, elaborately shaped accessories or an entire surrounding environment connected to the figure (see the venom above), these additional details will significantly increase points.

3. I'm looking to be impressed, but that does not mean you have to produce the cleanest and most intricate figure. Sometimes simplicity and uniqueness works best. Take my previous winner Mark Brockway on Instagram as an example. He created the only figure based off TFA pirate smuggler (with peg leg). It wasn't the most detailed of all, but it 'struck a chord' and instantly became one of my favourites.

I'll post updates and more details later on. For now... Happy Painting!

I recently hit 112 followers, the same number of followers as I have on my old account, so I thought that was contest worthy. Prizes for the contest are as follows:

Now, I know what you're wondering: What is the contest? Well, while this may sound odd, it is to make a fig, drawing, or build of a book accurate Balrog from LotR! For those who have not read LotR and don't know the description of a Balrog and still want to enter the contest, here's a description:

Around 6'4''. Skin's not certain, possibly bronze or red. Long arms. Should have armour, no plate. Claws and fangs, compared to steel. Long hair, possibly on fire, but not made of fire. Eyes glowing yellow, flaming nostrils. Helmet. Tolkien tended to make helmets conical, but a Balrog's helmet isn't ever described. Human-shaped. Evil. Cloaked in fire and shadow. The shadow dims the fire, rather than the fire lighting the shadow. The shadow obscures the Balrog, but not enough for details even as small as its nostrils to be unseen. Shadow spreads out quite far. It should carry a whip made of fire in one hand, and one of several weapons in the other: a flaming sword's probably the best choice, but maces and a black axe in one case are also mentioned. If it's the axe, it's Gothmog, lord of Balrogs, so he should be especially terrifying. Make it terrifying even if it's not Gothmog.

Bikini Contest at TSC 07

Not gonna lie, this is really just an excuse to use this picture I took...a while ago, and never got to use. Welp, I've found a use. It's also a nice oppurtunity to do a proper bio of my version of the Doctor, as I never quite got round to it.

This is the kinda thing I'm looking for in an entry. Of course, you could trade in the companions for a couple of villains. Or make a Tardis console room and put your Doctor in that. Right, I'm babbling, so I'll skip to the description.

So, this Doctor, the one in my series, has just come out of the Time war. He is approximately 900-ish years old and is in his 9th incarnation. since regenerating, he has a new lease on life, even if he is plagued by the demons of the time war. They will fade, hopefully. He's a fairly cheerful chap, always with a smile on his face. Unless someone threatens those he cares about. Then his smile turns to a frown, and his eyes burn with the fury of a thousand suns. In the time war he saw many die. Friends, family, innocent bystanders. But no more. e will never let anyone close to him get hurt ever again.

So, that's that. Have fun coming up with your entries, I can't wait to see them :D
