Contemporary art is a joke, a game, a stimulus, a cheat, a sales account, a spit, an advertisement, a simulation. And it often sucks too.

This beautiful window decal is from the Takashi Murakami display but I wanted to encourage people in Chicago to see the Howerdena Pindell exhibit which is only up until May 20th as well as the Otobong Nkanga exhibit. Really great art installations there now to check out!

The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) occupies a converted factory building complex occupying 13-acres in North Adams, Massachusetts. It is one of the largest centers for contemporary visual art in the United States. The complex was originally built by the Arnold Print Works, which operated on the site from 1860 to 1942. MASS MoCA opened in 1999 with 19 galleries and 100,000 sq ft (9,300 m2) of exhibition space. It is large enough to put on exhibitions in individual buildings for extended periods - a Sol Lewitt building has five stories full of work conceived by him (and executed by others) on display until 2033; another building contains three large-scale installations by Anself Keifer on display until 2028.

Artist Marc Quinn juxtaposes his eight-part series Emotional Detox with the iconic “character heads” by Baroque sculptor Franz Xaver Messerschmidt. The exhibition at the Upper Belvedere presents a thoughtful and impactful dialogue between contemporary art and major works from the museum’s collection. Messerschmidt’s work has long been an inspiration to Quinn, and the “character heads” directly influenced the creation of Emotional Detox.

Museum van Bommel van Dam, the museum for modern and contemporary art in North Limburg, is presenting an anniversary exhibition this fall of the realistic painter Evert Thielen (1954), born in Venlo. For over 50 years, he has been making extremely detailed paintings and meter-high polyptychs with self-made paint and gives his own twist to classical genres.

If you remember, last week Frīda, the Teddy Bear Girl, was going to London to find out is there any artist painting Teddy Bears...Today she calls her friends out in the garden to tell them what the results of research are...

Frīda: After spending 3 hours in Art galleries I came to conclusion

Matilda, the Mouse: Con ..con...what? Where did she come to?

Paddington (whispering) : That is where she ended at...

Matilda: I see, she came back to Wimbledon

Frīda: Shall I continue? I have to say that contemporary art is not up to standards. The Teddy Bear theme is not sufficiently reflected.

Matilda ( looking at Paddington): What did she say?

Paddington (whispering): She did not see enough Teddy Bears on the walls of art galleries.

Frīda: But finally I managed to find at least three art works. Surprisingly, Teddy Bear art you would not find in Tate Britain or Saatchi gallery but it is concentrated in Brick Lane.

Here, on tablet, you see the one of most striking examples...I would say, it speaks about Our Royal connections!

Applause after Frīdas speech 👏 👏 👏

One of Twins to his brother: I think we should go to London to find out how many Leopards we can find on those walls...

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!

P.S. The art work that Frīda found in Brick Lane was created by artist Rad@Raddingtonfalls

About artist Rad:

RAD creates paintings, collages, murals, printmaking, digital and mixed-media pieces which aims to stay true to the spirit and vitality of one’s youth. It’s an ethos that is exemplified in his character Forever Young, a walking LEGO minifigure wearing a blue suit and briefcase enjoying a dripping pink popsicle. He eventually developed the idea of fictitious town of Raddington Falls where his cast of LEGO minifigures would live and carry out an ever changing narrative. The town seems ideal on the outside, yet it has a darkness underneath the surface.

I'm looking forward to taking the train from Boston to Georgia soon. My daughter is due March 1st . It's a Boy ! Hoping my other daughter can come with me. I'm a bit apprehensive to go it alone as there is a long layover in DC, but I will if I have to. It's definitely worth it.
