Construction, "Diller Island", Pier 55, Hudson River Park, New York

Workers build a temporary tower at the Lincoln Memorial, January 2017.

Four men on top of a mega apartment building under construction use their combined strength to wedge building materials into place. Low wages and lack of safety equipment are ways mega corporations are able to build hundreds of 40+ story apartment buildings in every neighborhood in metro Manila. These buildings go up on the signed approval of politicians without any improvements to the cities infrastructure. A city in gridlock, Manila is setting itself up for a future urban crisis in tnhe next couple of years

“I think your life is governed not by the bricks or mortar around you, it’s governed by who holds your hand and who spits in your eye” – David McCallum.

“Your dreams are like the cement. If you water it with actions, it becomes a hard concrete mass. But if you leave it exposed and unwatered, the air will easily blow it away!” – Israelmore Ayivor.

A Westie and human construction workers working on a skyscraper.

Prompt: Ultra-realistic digital fine art of a construction site high above a bustling city at dusk. Two figures stand on a steel beam overlooking the worksite: one is a rugged construction worker in a hard hat, reflective safety vest, and tool belt, while the other is an anthropomorphic west highland white terrier dressed in matching construction gear. They hold a large blueprint together, studying the plans intently. The westie’s fur is rendered with lifelike texture, blending naturally with the human’s presence. The background reveals cranes, scaffolding, and partially finished skyscrapers glowing with warm interior lights against a cool mountain backdrop. Their worn work boots and detailed tool belts add authenticity, while the scene is filled with atmospheric lighting.

Went on a crazy cool trip with Michel yesterday.

First stop was powerplant IM. We have been here in august 2012, but then the constructionworkers weren't there jet :)

So we had to cover and duck a couple of times, but still managed to take some nice pics :)

Happy 2013 to all my lickr friends!

This is the famous (or infamous if you prefer) 9th United States District Court Building. Located at the corner of 7th and Mission streets in San Francisco. The building sustained significant damage during the 1989 earthquake, and as a result, underwent extensive repairs and retrofitting. Currently, it's closed to the general public. However, before the earthquake there was a Post Office located on the first floor. Those of us who used it could check out the beautiful tile-work. It's kind of a shame the public isn't currently allowed in the building because the interior architectural features are fantastic.

Construction workers in Finland (Ostrobothnia) posing in photographer Erik Hägglund´s studio probably about 1920. The man on the right is Johan Paulin from Vörå, who had returned from America, where he had worked as a navvy for six years. The hat is from his time in the U.S.

The original picture - here shown with my processing and partial colorization - is in the Svenska Litteratursällskapet archive in Helsinki.

Out of the construction and ready for a smoke.
