There is nothing fun about laying a gravel bag foundation. It may be environmentally friendly and cheap, but it is also just plain hard work.

Construction of I-235 / I44 Offbroadway project in Oklahoma City, This weekend they are hanging beams for the Westbound ramp from I-235 headed over I-44 landing in the west.
This shot is taken from the bridge construction site over the now-flooded Monocacy River. Obviously nothing is going to happen until the construction crew can work on the bridge footings, barely visible in the middle ground.
We came down out of the tower at the Montauk Point Lighthouse and walked a little more around the grounds. This is a bare, windswept hill exposed to all the weather the Atlantic has to offer, and it was a foggy day that looks like it might have been blustery and cold in these photographs even though it was uncomfortably warm and humid at the time. I love places like this, which look like the very last outpost of humanity living at the edge of the abyss.
Only you had all that construction equipment down there. What's up with that? They have a perfectly fine place here just as it is. Why are they wrecking it?
Editor's Note: "Prostruction" should be a word. Though it occurs to me that maybe the "con-" in "construction" is already reversing the "de-" in "destruction," as construction builds things up while destruction tears things down. So I guess it all boils down to whether your default outlook is positive or negative. My youngest brother, who has become very ministerial, has a weekly radio show on a Cincinnati-area Christian radio station that I listen to on the internet occasionally when I feel like mentally revisiting things I'm mad at him over, and one of his most persistent themes involves this kind of toxic positivity designed to avoid ever having to put any effort into fixing things while berating anybody who suggests the universe could use some work. I should send him the word "prostruction" just to see the verbal pretzel he twists out it. He'd have a ball. (I suspect some would take my tone here to indicate my default outlook is "negative." I prefer to call it realistic. Or perhaps prescriptive. Or PROscriptive. My brother'd love that one, too.)

During the construction of a house, Brazil 2005
Victory is always temporary.
Once you build a house, the wind might knock it down.
Or an earthquake.
Or the bank
Or another one might claim it, squat it, or take it for his own.
You might lose everything you eventually build.
It´s Okay.
There are other construction plans.
There are other challenges.
There are new things every day.
Eventually you build other houses.
Perhaps your neighbor sees your house
and decides to renovate his own.
Or even build a bigger one.
Perhaps you can fall and hurt your back.
But you keep getting up and always remember the joy of life,
the joy of working, the joy of good friends, the joy of innovation,
and the joy of Victory.
It´s only Temporary;
the Rest is Forever.
The Goal is Not Victory,
The Journey is Not About Winning
It´s About The Journey . . .
Students tour a nearly-completed renovation during a free 8-week home construction class offered by the City of Greenville and the North Carolina Homebuilders Association. The training will provide students with valuable skills that can open doors for work in the construction industry.
The home construction class will be offered again in the spring (2023).
