What constrains your freedom?

Stopped in Groton to take a shot of their First Parish Meeting House, which was looking fine in the autumn sunlight. Set up on the downward sloping front lawn looking up at the church, as the trees and the nearby Lawrence Academy buildings tend to constrain other angles. Well, to get the top of the spire, I first pushed a fair bit of rise and then both front and rear tilt to correct the verticals. Realized the 150mm Nikon lens I was using wasn't wide enough, so I swapped in the next wider lens I had, a Schneider 135mm, forgetting that its coverage is not extensive. Then got home to develop it, only to discover that this plate must have been one of the last poured in that session and was the beneficiary of *all* the bubbles in the batch. Yikes! Ah well, gave me a good chuckle and an excuse to go back and do it again properly one of these days.

I'm not sure where it all went horribly wrong. I followed the tutorials, but PSE won't let me uncheck 'constrain properties' :o(

If anyone has any helpful advice I'd be most grateful!

Bottom of screen is a very poorly done "Friend feed" but I'm not logged in, so it can't constrain the information to be relevant to me. Lame that there isn't a prompt to sign-up/in first.

I believe in Santa Claus. But not

The elf with a red nose hailed by the Danes.

Nor pale worried saint bent over his cane.

He does not strew coal, nor has he brought

Big cords of switch for use on wicked tots.

It's old human whimsey claims that he deigns

And with a crawling reindeer team constrains

A being who travels at the speed of thought.

Charles Dickens alone dreamt a true view

A glimpse of a golden censor beside

A blazing giant with doom clinging to

His knees because of man's decrepitude.

There is a Spirit walks the earth come Yule,

Who breathes hope where there's numbness through and through.

I once was bound by fear,

chained by my own hesitations.

Leaving before I was left,

listening but never believing.

I wore a straight jacket,

constraining my heart

to keep it from wandering.

Setting expectations high,

I avoided the heartbreak of goodbye.

Then you stirred within me

a sense of longing.

You awakened my senses

to what I was missing:

love's true beauty.

Finally, I cut the ties binding me.

Head back, sun soaking my face,

I outstretch my arms

and take in the sweetness

of reckless abandon.

I am free at last.

Free to roam,

free to break.

Free to give,

free to take.

Unrestrained, I give my heart to you

too happy to be concerned

of the damage you may do.

Throwing caution to the wind,

I forget the lessons I've learned.

I jump,

no longer fearing the fall.

I believe you are there

waiting to catch me

and cradle me in your open arms.

For you are my soft landing

in this cruel, unrelenting world.

I don't like how grainy this is and the wrinkles in the background bother me and the shadows are bad too but I'm learning to love the flaws in everything. There is beauty in the the flaws.

This is the scenic Duck River flowing into Old Stone Fort in Tennessee. The fort is actually a 2,000-year-old Native American ceremonial ground. Here, you can see fine examples of both biotic and abiotic factors, as well the temperate deciduous forest biome. Although the water of the river is abiotic, it "contains and constrains life," and is home to over 50 species of freshwater mussels and 151 species of fish, which makes it one of the most biologically diverse rivers in North America. The bridge in the background is abiotic as well, but it is also useful for aquatic life found in the river. It provides cover and structure for fish, and is an excellent place for algae to grow, which is a food source for aquatic life. On occasion, you'll also see some ducks, although I couldn't locate one today.

Praying always In The Spirit

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints " Ephesians 6:18

What multitudes of prayers we have put up from the first moment when we learned to pray. Our first prayer was a prayer for ourselves; we asked that God would have mercy upon us, and blot out our sin. He heard us. But when he had blotted out our sins like a cloud, then we had more prayers for ourselves. We have had to pray for sanctifying grace, for constraining and restraining grace; we have been led to crave for a fresh assurance of faith, for the comfortable application of the promise, for deliverance in the hour of temptation, for help in the time of duty, and for succour in the day of trial. We have been compelled to go to God for our souls, as constant beggars asking for everything. Bear witness, children of God, you have never been able to get anything for your souls elsewhere. All the bread your soul has eaten has come down from heaven, and all the water of which it has drank has flowed from the living rock—Christ Jesus the Lord. Your soul has never grown rich in itself; it has always been a pensioner upon the daily bounty of God; and hence your prayers have ascended to heaven for a range of spiritual mercies all but infinite. Your wants were innumerable, and therefore the supplies have been infinitely great, and your prayers have been as varied as the mercies have been countless. Then have you not cause to say, “I love the Lord, because he has heard the voice of my supplication”? For as your prayers have been many, so also have been God’s answers to them. He has heard you in the day of trouble, has strengthened you, and helped you, even when you dishonoured him by trembling and doubting at the mercy-seat. Remember this, and let it fill your heart with gratitude to God, who has thus graciously heard your poor weak prayers. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” [Psa.103:2] Hallelujah, God bless

The day starts at 7:30 am with a 40-minute drive to the Punta Bandera dock to take a boat on Lago Argentino to Upsala Glacier, a large valley glacier on the eastern side of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Its higher portion lies in a disputed territory between Chile and Argentina. The glacier terminus is at Upsala channel of Lago Argentino. The Upsala Glacier is well known for its rapid retreat that has been ongoing since the glacier was first documented in 1810. The glacier showed almost continual recession up until 1999. The acceleration in ice motion during the two decades preceding 1999 may have been augmented by the release of backstress when the glacier retreated beyond the islands in Brazo Upsala. Another period of even faster retreat started in 2008. As of 2018 Upsala Glacier has retreated to such degree that it no longer constrains its tributary Bertacchi Glacier. The boat then drops us off at the Estancia Cristina, an Argentine cattle and sheep ranch located inside Los Glaciares National Park in Santa Cruz Province. It is here that we take a 4x4 for 45 minutes up a mountain, stop and continue up for another 20 minutes, reaching the summit around 12:30 pm. The ranch was founded in 1914 by Joseph Percival Masters, an Englishman who came to Patagonia with his wife in 1900; Estancia Cristina is named for Masters' daughter Cristina. Located on the coast of Brazo Cristina, a northern channel of Lago Argentino, Estancia Cristina still keeps the history of the Masters family alive. Its lodge has 20 rooms distributed over 5 buildings and it his here that we had lunch followed by a presentation of the traditional Mate, an Argentinean tea and a tour of the ranch. We then take the boat back to Punta Bandera and arrive back at the hotel at 8:00 pm.

Vancouver's Adanac bike route is connected with a short counter-flow pathway that allows cyclists use of some surplus right of way alongside a one way street near the eastern edges of downtown.

Cyclists choose routes and make connections of convenience and re-engineering road design is so much better than trying to re-engineer people to constrain themselves to the sometimes awkward patterns of travel that are required of motorists who cannot so easily move in directions that are not laid out for them on the roadways.

Oh, diaper genie, I have such high hopes for you and your ability to constrain the diaper stink.

One of my objectives of my project 365 (53weeks) is to develop my photographic vision by constraining my subjects in some way. I am always constrained by time; I typically only have a few minutes on weekdays to scout my subject and make the images. Most weekend afford a little more time, but not always. My weekly theme however is an additional constraint.

This week, for example, my theme is 10mm. My focal length for the entire week will be 10 millimeters (since I am shooting with a 40D, that works out to 16mm at a 35mm full frame equivalent). This is a very wide angle of view. The challenge that this presents is to pick camera positions and compositions that produce something interesting.

So far, I'd have to say that it is going to be very hard to keep clutter out of the frame!

John Wesley's Epitaph

To the memory of the venerable

John Wesley, A.M., late fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford.

This great light arose (by the singular providence of God) to enlighten these nations, and to revive, enforce, and defend, the pure apostolic doctrines and practices of the primitive church:

which he continued to do, both by his writings and his labours for more than

half a century:

And to his inexpressible joy, not only, beheld their influence extending, and their efficacy witness'd in the hearts and lives of many thousands, as well in the western world as in these kingdoms:

But also, far above all human power of expectation, liv'd to see provision made by the singular grace of God, for their continuance and establishment to the joy of future generations.

Reader, if thou art constrain'd to bless the instrument, give God the glory.

After having languished a few days, he at length finished his course and his life together, gloriously triumphing over death, March 2nd An. Dom. 1791 in the eighty-eighth year of his age.

If we constrain the whole universe into a paper, the universe will be the whole piece as it is infinite. By the contrast, if the galaxy is sucked into a supermassive black hole, it will shrink until zero, and exist as a particle. By the infinite pull of gravity effecting from the center, the universe is turned into a small spitball, the paper is tossed. I demonstrate the force of gravity by painting a tossed paper as galaxy with scattered stars.

Quantifying the difference in phylogenetic signal along the bloodstream expression site.

A. Three tanglegrams relate the ESAG5 phylogeny with those of ESAG6 (close match), ESAG4 (moderate incongruence) and ESAG1 (severe incongruence). Dashed lines link corresponding expression sites in each tree. Incongruence between trees increases from left to right. B. Comparison of likelihood scores between optimal and constrained tree topologies for ESAG5. The phylogenies of six other ESAG loci (indicated by a cartoon of the expression site) were used to constrain the estimation of the ESAG5 tree; the difference in likelihood score between each of these constrained trees and the optimal ESAG5 tree is plotted along the expression site. Non-significant differences in likelihood are denoted by a dashed circle as evident when constraining the ESAG5 topology with the ESAG6 topology; however, enforcing the topologies of central loci (ESAGs 4 and 8) caused a moderate decrease in likelihood, whilst constraining with ESAGs 2, 11 or 1 caused a larger decrease.

I KNOW. stupid right XD

my problem was, the square was too small.

then i discovered that small check box if i should constrain the box to a square or not.

[sorry if i have wrong grammar. my brain is MUSH due to studying for 5 hours straight. XD take note: that's only one subject =))]

so there i was.

HAPPY as hell that the tiny square became HUGE \:D/ WOO =))

Garbage In Garbage Out

This is the main page from the website FCPEuro, a sales website for automotive parts for cars built by European auto makers like BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Saab and VW.

The page is an example of minimizing Garbage In Garbage Out, and how a thoughtful and simple design can eliminate garbage and get users where they want to go faster without frustration.

Basic users can input their specific vehicle using pull down menus within the blue bar or, if they are a power user, they can input the specific part number to search the entire site. By using pull downs, the developers are positively constraining user choice, preventing data entry error and the necessary code back end to sort or filter inappropriate or unknown choices but also highlighting specifically what they carry. If the user was looking for a Japanese or Korean manufacturer part, but could only find European makers, it is a clear illustration they are on the wrong web page.
