Constitution Hill is a hill in the Welsh town of Aberystwyth, situated to the north of the town.

The hill overlooks Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion, Wales, running between the town and the coastal settlements of Borth and Clarach bay to the north. The site provides good views of the Aberystwyth area and the sightline extends as far as Snowdonia National Park and north Pembrokeshire.

Since 1896, the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway has ascended to the hill's summit, and the summit features a camera obscura, which is a 1980s rebuild of a Victorian era building which was erected as part of the "Luna Park" recreation area.

At its peak runs the Clarach Footpath on the Wales Coast Path, which connects the town of Aberystwyth with Clarach Bay and Borth. The hill itself is often referred to as "Consti" by locals.[

Aberystwyth, affectionately known as 'Aber', is a town with wider horizons than its rural coastline setting and relaxed lifestyle might suggest. As a university town, it's a melting pot of cultures and ideas: museums, archives and galleries reveal a depth of heritage to be discovered; superlatives abound: first, oldest, longest, best ...

Aberystwyth is an ideal base to explore the landscapes of Ceredigion the Cardigan Bay coast and the Cambrian Mountains.

Looks a bit short of some tlc. A good grooming wouldn't go amiss, and probably a better paddock.

Wishing everyone a happy and joyful weekend. Take care and have fun. A big thank you for your kind comments and support.

A visit to Aberystwyth on 24 September 2024. Views across the seafront to Constitution Hill.

Although there has been a settlement here since the 12th century, centred on the hill to the south where a castle was erected early in the century, replaced in 1277 by the castle on the sea-front, development really started with the expansion of the harbour at the end of the 18th century, and even more so after the Cambrian Railways line reached here in 1864.

A major impetus to growth came in 1872 with the establishment of the University College of Wales, later to become Aberystwyth University, and since 2007 University of Wales, Aberystwyth. It has a good international reputation, bringing many new languages to a significantly Welsh speaking town.

From Wikipedia

The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd y Graig) opened on 1 August 1896. It is a 778 feet (237 m) long funicular railway in Aberystwyth and is the second longest funicular railway in the British Isles, after the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. Since November 1987, the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway has been a Grade II listed structure.

The Cliff Railway was developed as an element of Constitution Hill, a Victorian business venture by the Aberystwyth Improvement Company in the 1890s. The funicular took visitors to the top of the hill, where attractions such as a camera obscura were established. The cliff railway was originally a water balance system, but it was electrified during 1921. cliff railway is now owned and run by Constitution Hill Ltd, a registered charity.

A camera obscura was included in the 1890s theme park that included the railway and other attractions, but almost all had gone before a 1980s redevelopment in which a new camera obscura was accompanied by a cafe, play areas and a miniature golf course.

Hello. I hope you are having a happy Sunday.

Pictured here on his 44th birthday, in July 2009, artist Stephen B Whatley, close to Buckingham Palace, London and on the edge of Green Park; in approximately the same spot from where he painted an exterior view of the Palace a decade before - one of two paintings commissioned by the Royal Collection & The London Transport Museum in 1999.

Both paintings- the other, a painting of The Grand Staircase, painted inside the Palace- were commissioned for reproduction on posters all over the London Underground and inside tube trains, advertising the annual summer opening of Buckingham Palace; in 1999 and 2000.

Painting on location is a unique feature of the Stephen's way of working, spontaneously in dynamic consecutive hours; and the painting created from this spot now hangs inside the Palace, as part of the Royal Collection.

In this shot , the Royal standard is flying, which is a sign that HM Queen Elizabeth II is in residence; and indeed she was as the forecourt full of coaches and vans indicates one of Her Majesty's Summer Garden Parties was in full swing.

From Constitution Hill you get a superb view over one of my favourite British towns: Aberystwyth. It seems I'm not alone in having this viewpoint; Aberystwyth was recently voted one of the top ten small towns in the UK for a winter break, by readers of The Guardian.

Aberystwyth is a university and seaside town and a community in Ceredigion, Wales. It is the largest town in Ceredigion and 16 miles from Aberaeron, the county's other administrative centre. In 2021, the population of the town was 14,640.

Greetings my friends. Wishing you all a Happy Sunday and a great week ahead. Hope all is well with you . Have fun and take care.

The photo on the left is the result of placing the Negative on a Light Box, that has light evenly emitted at 5,000°K. I set that Color Temperature in the camera.

I used this Manfrotto tripod setup.

I used a Nikon D3x and a Nikon 200mm Micro-Nikkor f/4.0D lens and filled the frame. I could have easily gone edge-to-edge, but this was merely a trial run to prove to myself I could do it.

Using Photoshop or Nikon Capture NX2, I simply used a color-picker on the edge of the photo and then selected the whitest white and the darkest black and in Levels set the reciprocal.

Constitution Hill | James Gandon, 1800; completed 1817 by Francis Johnston

on a beautiful Autumn afternoon in Westminster, London. Buckingham Palace is behind me as I walk toward Wellington Arch and Hyde Park. The area is laden with royal history, not the least of which are three attempts to assassinate Queen Victoria in the 1840s.

1–7 Constitution Hill, Birmingham a red brick and terracotta Grade II listed building. Built as the H.B. Sale factory in 1895 now used as a Syrian/Lebanese restaurant called Syriana.

Hello. Wishing everyone a Happy Sunday

The buildings in the distance are located on Constitution Hill. The building in the centre is the Y Consti this was used in the filming of hinterland as a hotel.

In the centre of the photograph is the bath rock shelter, you can see its red roof. As well as being used for Hinterland it has been seen on television when it was in a state of near collapse after the 2014 storms. The name comes from the fact a public bath house once stood there and many years before the medieval gallows.

Behind this is the old Queens Hotel, which has been used as the outside of the police station during Hinterland filming.

To the right is the new band stand.

Many thanks for your kind comments and views.
