Located right next to the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine was dedicated in 315 AD.

 

Most of the reliefs and other decorative material are not original to the arch--they were removed from other locations and "repurposed." Many say that sculptors at this time lacked the ability to make them, and resorted to using existing items.

 

At Luna Lounge. I always envisioned these guys as very gruff and serious. Instead, they look very Canadian, which is to say, nice and happy.

On the North Coast of Cornwall, near Padstow is Constantine Bay with it's gorgeous beach. As taken in May 2004.

I've redesigned the capitals based on the type in the Constantine chapel in Rome and set the elevation out to the Corinthian order with Areostyle columns. Corinthian order set out to the Golden proportions

The obverse of a medium bronze follis, struck in Trier, on the Rhine, in the name of and portraying the Roman emperor Constantine I, 306-337 AD.

 

References include RIC VI, page 227, 890, which dates this issue to 310- 313, determined a frequency of C2, very common. RIC cites and illustrates an example from Oxford.
