Constantine Bay is a village and beach on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated approximately three miles west of Padstow and is in the parish of St Merryn

A 21m-high Roman structure made up of 3 arches decorated with figures & battle scenes.

Constantine the Great was serving in the military garrison in York when he was proclaimed Emperor of Rome in AD306.

His statue is in the Minster Yard, on the south side of York Minster.

My precious girl got her clothes in today! She's flawless! ^_^

Country/City: Algeria, Constantine

Shows: Street Scene, Place de Nemours

Artist/Date: unknown, about 1905

York

York Civic Trust commissioned the statue in 1998, It was created by the sculptor Philip Jackson.

On 28th September 2016 the replica weapon was stolen by a man who was reported to police when he was seen brandishing it in front of the Minster. He was arrested, the sword was recovered by a member of the public who passed it on to the police officers. In November the same year Constantine was reunited with his sword, at a cost of £1000 to fix the damage.

The statue stands between the south side of the Minster and the Church of St Michael le Belfry.

Constantine was proclaimed Emperor in York in AD306, following the death of his father Constantius. The Roman Legionary Headquarters was only a few metres away, now under the Minster.

The sword is broken, the pointed end lays flat by his left foot, made like this to form the shape of a cross, the emperor made Christianity an acceptable religion across the Roman Empire.

He’s a popular tourist attraction, I managed to be there at one of those rare moments when he wasn’t surrounded by people, and no one was stood on the steps of the Minster.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

This is a very popular beach for surfers, like so many sandy beaches along the north coast of Cornwall. Constantine Bay is named after Saint Constantine, a 6th-century Cornish saint possibly identified with a minor British king. The historic St Constantine's Well and the remains of St Constantine's Church can both be accessed via an adjacent golf course. Padstow is some three miles to the east while in the distance can be seen Dinas Head with the adjacent rocky islets known as The Bull and the Quies rocks (on the far left). Out of view behind Dinas Head is the Trevose Head lighthouse, built in 1847 specifically to warn shipping of these hazards.

With the School holidays a few Buses on the depot today, including Ex Carters Volvo Olympian and Dennis Trident with the East Lancs bodied Dennis Dominator used as a community playbus at the end.

This is the first part of the weather-lore rhyme:

Red sky at night; shepherd's delight,

Red sky in the morning; shepherd's warning...

The 'red sky at night' rhyme is more than an old wives' tale though and has some meteorological foundation - in England at least.

Sometimes the phrase involves sailors rather than shepherds - both have a more than usual interest in the weather!

The end of a beautiful day, saturated with fresh air, warm sun, visual joy and lots of good photography.

We had to drive fast from Padstow to get the sun in the right place, we were 'the original sunset-chasers', tee hee.

We made it in time, of course I have the 'by the second' disappearance of the sun into the sea, however it was the other beauty surrounding it that interested me most!

Like this afterglow, that panoply of stunning colours.

No time wasted to bring my tripod, so, just found myself a spot to sit, rested my elbows on my knees and held my breath...

I hope you get as much pleasure out of them as I do, M, (*_*)

The head of the colossal statue of Constaine the Great - in the courtyard of the Capitoline museums. It was begun 312-315 A.D. as a seated figure and once sat at the apse of the Basilica of Maxentius. The whole figure was not made of marble, however, just head and limbs. It is likely the sculpture was then reworked after 325 - the remains were found in the 15th century at which time two right hands were found, indicating that at first the emperor was holding a sceptre and this was later replaced with a hand holding a Christian symbol instead.

The rocky cove between Constantine Bay and Treyarnon Bay is known as Chair Cove and it looks great on a stormy high tide. Even though they are often distant (at least through wide angle lenses) headlands like Trevose Head really add to coastal compositions by giving the eye something to settle on towards the back of the frame.

Fragments of the Colossus of Constantine in the courtyard of the Palazzo dei Conservatori, Rome. Used as an illustration in Milvian Bridge AD 312.

Photographed in 1998 with a Ricoh R1 and, IIRC, some variety of Agfa Iso 400 film. Scanned from the print and cropped.

Constantine (Arabic: قسنطينة‎, Qusanṭīnah, also spelled Qasentina or Kasantina) is the capital of Constantine Province in north-eastern Algeria. During Roman times it was called Cirta and was renamed "Constantina" in honor of emperor Constantine the Great. It was the capital of the same-named French département until 1962. Slightly inland, it is about 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the Mediterranean coast, on the banks of the Rhumel river. Regarded as the capital of eastern Algeria and the centre of its region, Constantine has a population of 448,374 (1,000,000 with the agglomeration), making it the third largest city in the country after Algiers and Oran. There are museums and important historical sites around the city (one of the most beautiful is the Palais du Bey, in the casbah). It is often referred to as the "City of Bridges" due to the numerous picturesque bridges connecting the mountains the city is built on.

Architect: Elliott Constantine (1974)

Location: Charleston, SC

I think there are only about three or four mid-century modern houses in all of Charleston. This one has been featured in several newspapers and magazines and is a real gem. It's currently for sale.
