2 new wind turbines passing Kilroot power station which is a Coal, Oil and Biomass fueled power station on the north shore of Belfast Lough. Each turbine will rise 160 metres above the Irish Sea and carry a blade with a 126 metre diameter, which will rotate in an area the size of a football pitch.
European energy company Vattenfall said it had delivered the first of nine consignments of turbines and towers for the wind farm to be based 10 kilometres off Barrow-in-Furness.
Vattenfall's David Hodkinson said: "We are delighted that Vattenfall's Ormonde offshore wind project is supporting employment at Harland and Wolff's facility in Belfast and we are looking forward to working with them to deliver this part of the project safely and cost effectively.
"The delivery of the towers and turbines is not only an important development for our project, but also underlines Vattenfall's commitment to work with suppliers to strengthen the UK supply chain for the offshore wind sector, which will underpin the delivery of the planned large scale expansion of offshore wind around the UK coast."

UNHCR emergency aid operation’s first Boeing 747 landed in Erbil
20 August 2014, Erbil, Iraq - UNHCR’s first aid flight in a massive 10-day operation to help people caught in Iraq’s worsening humanitarian crisis landed in Erbil today at 15:10 local time, carrying 100 tons of emergency aid.
Aboard the Boeing 747 were 3,300 tents, 20,000 plastic sheets, 18,500 kitchen sets, and 16,500 jerry cans – the first consignment in an operation that aims at bringing in 2,410 tons of aid between now and the start of September.
The aid will target living conditions for almost 500,000 displaced people in the region, many of whom are living rough in unfinished buildings, in parks or by the roadside.
Iraq’s escalating crisis means that the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq is now hosting more than 600,000 internally displaced civilians, including more than 200,000 people who fled the Sinjar area since early August. UNHCR is working closely with humanitarian partners and the Kurdish authorities in the region to deliver aid.
The special emergency humanitarian aid cargo flight was welcomed at the Cargo Terminal by the Governor of Erbil Mr. Nawzad Hadi, Assistant Foreign Relations Director of the Kurdish Region Government Mr. Dindar Zebari and UNHCR head in Iraq Ms. Shoko Shimozawa.
Support for this and further aid deliveries is coming from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Denmark, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden and IKEA, a UNHCR corporate partner.
Across Iraq, an estimated 1.2 million people have been displaced so far in 2014, including more than 500,000 from fighting in the Anbar region which began in January, and more than 600,000 displaced from conflicts in and around Mosul (since June) and more recently Sinjar (since early August). The majority of the newly displaced are in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.
