There are infinite shadings of light and shadows and colors... it's an extraordinarily subtle language. Figuring out how to speak that language is a lifetime job.

A touch of hyper-realism in a portrait of my friend, Conrad

Terrific Thursday to you.

This is another in my photo series on Kentucky architecture of note. The Conrad-Caldwell House, which is now a museum, is in the old part of Louisville. Old Louisville is known for its Victorian homes. This building is at the heart of that bygone gilded age, with its unusual and old upper-class architecture in a Richardson-Romanesque style.

A tannery owner, Theophilus Conrad, built this home for himself from 1893-1895. The house was sold after Conrad's death in 1905 to William Caldwell.

"E' strano quanto lontano dal contatto con la realtà possano essere le donne,Vivono in un mondo tutto loro,e non c'è mai stato nulla di simile,e mai potrà esserci.E' perfino troppo bello,e se riuscissero a realizzarlo andrebbe in pezzi prima del primo tramonto.."(J. Conrad)

Dedicated in 2004, this Boone County Kentucky park contains 43 acres and has a 1.3 mile paved path with a great view of the Ohio River. There are porta potty's and picnic shelters at both ends of the trail. Located on the downriver end of rural route 8, it's never crowded and litter free. It's a gem for a little solitude.

The first fog of the season had me so excited. I couldnt wait to get back out there and take a walk with my little one, she was pretty amazed by it as well. It felt so good to be out, it felt like the fog around us was taking the bad, foggy thoughts that were in my head away from me. Nature always has the right answers for me and I felt so lucky, happy and blessed to be out that morning...

CYXX 2109 is a former Pennsylvania Railroad GP30. Unused on the weekends, they normally operate 6am-2pm M-F. Conrad Yelvington is largest distributor of aggregate in the state of Florida. Each year they move more than 5 million tons through a network of rail served terminals.

Rich and I did an engagement shoot this weekend. The shots turned out great. Here's a little sneak peek. More to come! Check out our website/blog: www.927photography.com

Located in the city centre, the award-winning Conrad Istanbul Bosphorus boasts terraces with panoramic views of the Bosphorus. Featuring luxurious rooms and upscale suites with a contemporary design and Bosphorus views, the hotel is within walking distance from the Bosphorus and Dolmabahce Palace

CYXX 2104, a GP30, is one of two switchers present at the Conrad Yelvington Distributors in Jacksonville, FL. The other switcher, carrying the same paint scheme, is an Alco RS1 rebuild of some sort which they don't seem to use quiet often. As usual, I did a little trip through the woods and some shrubs to find a spot to catch these guys switching. I found this spot and caught CYXX 2104 push a string of hoppers that had just been unloaded onto a different track. In the background you can see some of Downtown Jacksonville.

I recently met Conrad at a Travellers Fair a really wonderful character who had travelled up from South Wales near Cardiff.

He told us how he lived a very simple life having given his house up where he had lived in his younger days.

I hope I get to meet this wonderful character again one day.

Swiss universal genius (not self proclaimed like Trump!)

There’s so much about Conrad I would never have known. I’ve known him for a long time now, we’ve hung out, painted together, made masks, partied. It’s been 3 years and we finally had a full conversation about more than what was in the moment. We went for a long drive down barren roads and so, between the bites of jerky, we told our stories. I focussed on my most recent Kootney journey, him on everything I had missed between the times we’d seen each other. The start how he met the friends that connected us, the time he spent dating another mutual, living in Victoria, working in the film industry, coming back to Mission, and freelancing.

I learnt a lot. Most of it, now that I know, had slipped past despite being obvious. I suppose when I met him our interactions were mostly in passing. Group conversations, talking about interests like music, art, and film, words overheard at parties. It was curious to learn someone I already thought I knew. His relationships past, how he knew my friends, how we met, who he’d seen, who he’s seeing. As much as you may know someone, just think about how many memories you have. Everyone has that. There’s no way to scope what anyone else experiences. You can explain it, but to know it and feel it is something rare, fleeting at best, and to even begin to understand is something else entirely. For a moment I felt I understood a bit of what Conrad was telling me. It was a moment of bonding. I’m glad for this project. I’m glad to have gone exploring with him. I’m glad to know I’ll be able to share these moments with others. I’ll be glad to know I’ve hopefully done or will do for someone else as well.

Lauren Conrad just loves to take pictures!

An installation by Conrad Shawcross in Kingsway Tram Subway (closed to the public since 1952).

Conrad was the name of a raccoon that died on the corner of Yonge and Church in the summer of 2015. And though Conrad was just a raccoon, he was human enough to inspire compassion and warmth in the hearts of Torontonians. This is a monument in his honour.
