Whenever I go for a wander and get a bit lost, all I need to find is the TV tower and I know I home.

I don't know about anyone else, but my freezer rarely ever comes with a shelf in it. Normally I'd have everything just piled into the freezer, with things falling out everytime I opened it.

I found this metal expandable shelf from Wal-Mart (Mainstays brand) and it fit -perfectly- and was pretty inexpensive. If you don't have a Wal-Mart near you, I'm sure stores like Linens 'N Things or Bed Bath & Beyond would carry something similar. Highly recommended if you're often faced with freezer dilemmas.

Sept. 2-5. Stayed at hotel night of 2nd. Drove in to trailhead at 0650. Rested and packed. On trail at 0900. At high camp near table rock at 1345. Hardly any snow. No bugs. Light gusts. 60s and low 40s. Woke at 6 and left at 7 with no headlamp. At bottom of canyon beneath pinnacle at 0825. Climbed rock almost halfway through col. Hit snow field and used crampons but didn't need them. At top of snow field at 0945 (an hour earlier than last year despite leaving 2 hours later). Guessed on which was Owen's Chute. Made it to the top at 1030. Sort of guessed which way was the summit. Made summit at 1200. 13,143 feet. Spent 20 minutes on top due to dark clouds coming in and wanting to follow two other climbers down. Made bottom of chute at 1320. Made camp by 1510. Rain came in while packing up. Hiked past Lake Ediza soaked till rain stopped. Decided to hike till I was dry and no return of rain. Felt great so kept going. Made it to truck at 1930. As I drove to Austria Hof hotel the skies were thundering and lightning. Was checked into a room, showered and eating a hot meal and having a beer at 2045. Pack weighed 25 pounds. Summit pack was 10. Used almost everything except headlamp and extra night food. Should have brought light rain jacket and tent fly.

This has been the most difficult week I think I have ever had. My mom was put in the hospital a week ago. While in the hospital, I was in her room with her and she looked at me and told me she didn't feel well. She had this look on her face that I will NEVER forget. Then her eyes rolled to the back of her head. My mom was having a stroke. I called for assistance STAT and an amazing team of nurses and doctors came running. They saved my moms life. As it was all going on though, I don't think there has ever been a time where I felt so helpless in my life. Even though I work in the medical field and I deal with life and death situations everyday... It's totally different when it's my own family member. I know I can save the life of someone else, but I don't know that I can save the life of my own family. In that moment, I thought I was going to lose my mother. I almost did. But thanks to the staff at the hospital, my mom survived and is back home now as if nothing ever happened. She has full mobility and speech. She's a little more forgetful and we have to explain things to her in a little more simple terms when trying to tell her to do something, but she has her sense of humor back and she's just like she was before. I am so THANKFUL to God and to all of the staff at the hospital!

I was able to go out yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks to go shooting. We thought the park would be very nice since we got so much rain from Tropical Storm Debby this week. But it was flooded beyond anything I had expected. There were all sorts of strange critters running around. This Yellow Rat Snake was one of them. I'm deathly afraid of snakes. But I had warning of where (s)he was and that (s)he was not poisonous. I had time to mentally prepare. I decided to fight my fear, afterall I had been through with my mom this past week, nothing could be that scary! So, I rounded the corner and took multiple shots of this snake. It's not something I will probably do ever again, but the fact that I could do it this one time is something I'm proud of.

A great thing about being on vacation is getting to read books again. This one was a fun read, a real page-turner. As sci fi i'd rate it at a modest 0.2 Strosses (a measure of novel-ideas-per-page, with Accelerando as the baseline) but as literature it was just wonderful. Great three-dimensional characters, very satisfying story.

I had an awesome stock for this sig, it's a wallpaper from Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars. It's also my entry for a team signature battle on Gimper. Original stock can be found here: upic.me/show.php?id=6913c50fa2e49a742a6ede2276cb0bb8

Finally, my first photos of 2013!

Such excitement when you finally cross those monkey bars

... traveling through the perilous obstacles of my room.

This is Blossom who I received when I was two. Many moons ago, he was holding a flower, hence the name. And he was originally a she, but apparently I had too many female stuffed animals and changed his gender, and it stayed.
