Living underneath a house in Houston's Third Ward. They appeared to be in reasonable shape and I think being fed by local residents. On zoom, though, it seems the white kitty could be developing skin issues, and her left eye seems abnormal, although that could be a congenital anomaly. This area is in need of a trap/neuter/release program.
Dear Santa,
My name is Sidney Sterling the Black-winged Stilt.
I am writing to you to let you know that I’ve been very good all year.
In fact, here are some of the nice things I did in 2025:
1) Migrated south from Northern China to Hong Kong in record time;
2) Fledged 3 healthy stilt chicks; and,
3) Acted as a productive member of the flock, raising the alarm at the first sight of danger, especially those pesky photographers.
And all I want for Christmas is a brand new leg !!!!
Yours, Sidney
This Black-winged Stilt was attempting to 'scratch' its head despite missing the lower portion of its right leg; the Stilt did this several times while I was observing it. Other than this obvious disability, this Stilt was in perfect health and, in fact, appeared to be utterly oblivious to its predicament. How it sustained this injury or whether its condition was congenital is anyone's guess.
Happy holidays and best wishes for 2026 to everyone at Flickr !!

This is Holly, the Collie I adopted in 1999 when she was five years old. She was blind in one eye from a congenital defect known as microphthalmia or small eye. It never slowed her down though. She ruled my younger dog even though he outweighed her by 15 pounds. And she was a fierce hunter, often leaving small dead animals by the back door as if she was a cat. She loved being outside and dug multiple beds in the yard when we lived in Indiana. In this photo, she was 13 years old. She lived another two years, passing away from kidney failure in 2010.
As a side note, when I bought my first DSLR back in late 2009, I got a free copy of Photoshop Elements with the camera. This photo of Holly was the very first one I tried to manipulate with artistic effects. The difference between that version and this one that I created yesterday is amazing to me. I had no idea where that initial experiment would lead. :-)
A few miles out on the Tiger Mountain Trail is Murat's Bridge, a 220 foot long steel bridge named in honor of Murat, who died in 2013 at the age of 32 of a congenital heart condition. His family donated funds for the bridge. It is lovely and very sturdy. Already, trees have fallen on it without a problem for the bridge. The previous bridge, and others on this mountain, have been destroyed by fallen trees. Murat and his family, loved hiking on Tiger Mountain. The rest of us are fortunate his family honored his memory in a manner that benefits the users of this trail.

Hearing aid and battery Hörgeräte und Batterie
A blessing for people is the hearing aid. Whether with a congenital or acquired hearing loss, the hearing aid enables people to participate and live like a person who has no hearing loss.
History excerpts from Wikipedia:
"The first hearing aids were available as ear trumpets in the 17th century.
From 1910 onwards, Siemens also introduced devices from Siemens, but only for employees and their families, which not only amplified the sound of the telephone but also the surrounding sound. In 1913, now from Siemens & Halske, a revised model called Phonophore was put on the market, consisting of a battery, microphone and receiver, these components were carried in a special handbag or carrying case."
Today's hearing aids are almost invisible, see photo

"Abandonment" has always been one of my favourite photo themes ... As a matter of fact it has always been one of photographic Art's most popular themes ever ... The colours, the mood, the shady and "spooky" environment, the unique way "nature" loves to "embrace" and "absorb" almost any kind of remnants and derelict material serve always as a powerful message carrier to any viewer ...
In my village I unfortunately have the chance to come face to face with the concept of abandonment, emanating from almost any direction I turn my eyes onto ... Being congenitally optimist nevertheless, I usually try to trace down the "bright" and beautiful side of it, if any ... In most cases I like to "interpret" the concept not as an end but rather as a beautiful new beginning or as a promising continuation of an intermediate state ...

He recreates the World not by making new things but by making all things new. He does this by divine power working upon all that is through the agency of a human nature he holds in solidarity with us. He summons all into a restored communion with his Father, not in spite of matter but through matter, even spit and dirt, thereby clarifying the true meaning of the material world itself. He summons all to his Father in time, thereby renewing both time and its spatial functions. He addresses all people not only in mind and soul but in body as well, thereby renewing the human person in his and her relation to matter, to time and space, and to the whole created world. Apart from this renewal, which is also revelation, we are left as we were—aliens in creation and congenitally alone.

IMPORTANT:
If you are one of the people out there who look at 'underlying health conditions' in people dying from Covid-19 and think that those people don't matter then please feel free to unfollow me on Flickr as I will not enter into a discussion with you about this subject.
I just saw a headline in the Telegraph, a UK Newspaper sometimes referred to as the 'Torygraph', proudly boasting that only 6 'healthy' UK children have died from Covid-19. This comes on the day when the 110th child has died in the UK from Covid-19 or the complications of Covid-19. That headline implies that the other 104 children's lives meant nothing because they had 'underlying health conditions'.
Did you know that the term 'underlying health conditions' refers as much to cancer as it does to an ingrown toenail. It could be a child with ADHD, a child with asthma, a child with a now-treated congenital heart defect, a child with diabetes or any other disease. There is nothing to say that those children wouldn't live long and fulfilling lives contributing to society.
Over 2/3 of those 110 deaths have occurred since September when schools returned with no mandatory masks, distancing, ventilation policy and no vaccination programme effectively in place.
I know some of you hate it when I get political but I am not generally political in a partisan sense here, for me it is always about the humanity or lack thereof that brings me to comment.
The shameful inhumanity of that Telegraph headline and anyone who thinks along the same lines is beyond words. I have 3 of the top 4 co-morbidities for Covid-19. I have numerous underlying health conditions. I developed them as a direct result of working to help others. My life is worth no less because of them and I could, hopefully, go on to live many more decades yet.
We are one species on one tiny blue planet in the vastness of space. It's about time we worked together rather than fought against each other. Stay safe my Flickr friends.

I’ve been taking winter eagle pics for 15 years. During this time, we get to recognize certain birds by certain head and eye features, mostly. This eagle seems to consistently have one of its right talons extended during flight, possibly related to an injury or congenital condition. I have images of this eagle dating back to 2013.

I don't think I've posted a picture of Ziva before. She boarded with us for the first time in the early summer and did so well that her mom decided it was safe to take another vacation so brought her back on Friday to board with us again for another week. She is only six years old but was born with a congenital heart defect. She is on lots of medications and will no doubt die young and probably very suddenly but she is a darling, sweet kitty who is adored by her family who is determined to make sure that every day she lives is the happiest one possible.
I was folding towels yesterday at work when someone mentioned that Ziva had gotten all of her oral meds that morning but not her eye ointment so I got her out of her cage to apply her eye ointment. She sat so nicely on the treatment table that I grabbed my phone to take her picture and she pointed her cute nose at me.
A picture from a few years ago, in our previous house. Taken one winter's evening, when we were all enjoying the fire.
Mia came to live with us 10 years ago, almost, when she was a year old. Congenitally deaf, she was a house cat and initially used to roam the house. In her later years, she tended to choose to stay in the bedroom or en-suite, quickly returning there if we ever carried her to other parts of the house.
Over the last two weeks, it became clear she was very unwell and a vet confirmed on Monday that she had unsurvivable cancer that was progressing very rapidly.
We decided to let her go this afternoon and she was looked after wonderfully by our local vet, with Carolin and Joshua there with her.
We enjoyed having her, despite some of her tendencies... as they say... dogs have owners, cats have staff. RIP Mia, thanks for being part of the family for ten years.

Each year at this time The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (Sztab WOŚP przy Politechnice Poznańskiej) takes over the country with its wonderful cause gathering donated goods for auction and money collected on the street to support the years theme. Each year we (Agnieszka and I) donate to this cause and twice now we have donated items for auction....this year we are very proud to have been able to provide several copies of my newly published book. Cheers!
Info from their main page "The Grand Finale takes place on the first or second Sunday of every new year. Sponsored by many Polish and worldwide companies, it is a one-day long, nationwide, money-raising event. Volunteers from all around Poland go out on the street and collect money in special cans which are labeled with a red heart and text: "Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy" (Polish for The Grand Orchestra of Christmas Charity). They also have identification cards, thanks to which anyone can report suspicious-looking people collecting money to the police without any such proof of authorization. Everyone who gives the volunteers any amount of money, gets a red heart sticker in return."
"During this one day, huge parties are thrown around the country (and at other places where Polish people live). These are organized by volunteers, except for the biggest event which takes place at the Pałac Kultury i Nauki (Palace of Culture and Science) in Warsaw, and is managed by the GOCC itself. At 8 p.m. firework show is set in every city as so called 'light to heaven'."
"Throughout seventeen Grand Finales, the Foundation collected over $100 million for cardio-surgery, neonatology, pediatric oncology, kidney diseases, congenital defects, newborns and children under 5 years of age."

Like most people living through the pandemic, the emphasis has returned to the safety and security of the home. It seems the last refuge from the scourge of illness that is sweeping the world. It's been a real struggle to maintain a positive frame of mind through an ongoing torrent of bad news. The sanctuary of my home was ripped open a couple of weeks ago with the death of our cat Sampson. In the wake of his death attention turned to his little sister Samantha. Born of the same littler, they had spent their entire lives together. Samantha (I had knick-named her Patches because of her nervous tendency to pull little tufts of fur from her sides) seemed interconnected with Sampson much like congenital twins. I worried about Samantha's impending loneliness even as Sampson's life was slipping away. For a couple of days after he died, it seemed like she might be able to adapt to life without his companionship. She still seemed engaged with household activities and even took a renewed interest in lap sitting. But at the same time she began meowing loudly as she wandered the house calling for her brother (those plaintive wails still ring in my ears). By the end of day three I began to notice her appetite had diminished. On day four she outright declined food and, even more worrisome, water as well. Did all I could to coax her but she balked at even most favored treats. Lethargy soon followed and all I could do was cradle her on my lap. She died just a week after Sampson, not even three full days ago as I write this. Losing them both in quick succession is having a compounding effect on me. The house seems frightfully empty. Even my perception of time has changed. The daily routines that involved the cats and our frequent interactions have been shattered. My eyes still sweep across to their favorite sleeping and perching locations as I did unconsciously for so many years. Always scanning the rooms to see where they were and what they were up to. Very difficult to break habits like this. More often they just fade away over time. Part of my sadness was watching her mournful behavior in that final week and being unable to console her. I'm certain that animals grieve just as we do. But they simply don't have our coping skills. Samantha died broken hearted and there wasn't a thing I could do to prevent it. Even home doesn't feel quite as safe now.
Woolly Locoweed (Astragulus mollissimus), may be nice to look at but beware of its effects.
The plant derives its common name from its wooly stems and leaves, and its effect on the nervous system of livestock which consume it, causing them to "go loco." This is caused by an alkaloid it contains known as locoine. The plant is toxic both fresh and dried, and in addition to its effects on the nervous system, can also cause congenital defects and liver damage. (Source: Wikipedia)

In winter, Arctic Fox fur is normally a bright white, to blend in with their snowy habitat. The photo above is an Arctic Fox with what is known as having Melanistic Fur. Melanism is the congenital excess of melanin in an organism resulting in dark pigment.*
(*Direct dictation from Wikipedia)
This is the only Arctic Fox that I have ever seen with this type of fur. I was able to photograph it twice in the same month, but have never seen it again.
This particular fox was being chased by a Red Fox over the tundra. I was with a close friend, and we stopped our truck and got out so I could photograph the interaction. The Arctic Fox and Red Fox both laid down, I imagine to catch their breath. After a few moments, the Arctic Fox got up slowly and put my friend and I between it and the Red Fox. I took advantage of the situation and captured many images of the brown fox. After a bit, the Arctic Fox snuck off while the Red Fox was distracted by my friend and I and was able to escape the Red Fox. (If caught, the Red Fox would have killed and ate the Arctic Fox)
As a result of this encounter, my friend bought a camera and lens and now takes great wildlife photos as well.
The ancient Greeks were naked or rode on horseback, nor, even approximately, looked like an idealized images. Judging by the average Greek osteoarheološkom material was a stocky, robust, relatively short legs.
How, then, the Greek art defines a man? Aristophanes legendary winners of the marathon describes: smooth chest, bright skin, big shoulders, a short tongue, a big butt and a small penis (Clouds, 1011-13). The man was naked, a woman, until the beginning of Hellenism Praksitela and mostly dressed. Only with a few exceptions, all the Greek artists, and all the ancient authors who wrote about nijma men. Greek world, as we know it today, is a male world, and the state, the polis, the patriarchal concept of involving only adult congenital men. Publicly displayed works of art, especially sculpture and architecture are much more addressing the man, but a woman. All of this points to one, relationship between the audience and watched in Greek art becomes the relationship between Erastus and eromena, beloved and lover, in which the sculpture (or pictures) eromen, junior partner in a homosexual relationship, which is passive, perhaps, accentuated reduced penis . Does this mean that Partenonski frieze procession desirable homosexual partners? Worth it just for the tens of thousands of kouros, a sculpture of naked boys who are like tombstones stood all over the Greek world? It is obvious that we can not Greek construction of corporeality and sexuality measure today's standards, but the affinity that our culture is shown to the classics (Twentieth Century, however, follows the trend of abandonment of traditional forms) are not missed. Later, we see that there, although there is a huge gap of misunderstanding, many points of contact between modern and Greek civil taste.
When we talk about the relationship of the human body, with all their needs, and cultural norms, are talking also about how integration in society. The basic form of the Greek society is distinct homosocijalnost, and for the Greek polis, we can rightly say that the men's club, while all other social groups condemned the segregation (women, foreigners), or completely off (the slaves). Unlike the Eastern civilizations, where distant and invisible to authorities govern the lives of its subjects, the polis, which is completely independent and self-sufficient entity, a man (man) becomes visible, palpable agent in the creation of the state. However, this task is not easy. Greek soldier, farmer or tradesman, a voter, a full-fledged citizen, all in one. Tensions emerged that many contradictory roles that the Greeks had to exercise can be felt in the description of the Athenian demos from around 400 BC AD: capricious, choleric, unjust, inconstant, but also accommodating, compassionate, sympathetic, boastful, conceited, humble, gentle and wild, all in one. (Gas NH 35th 69) Not surprisingly, therefore, that neither Plato nor Aristotle placed him in a democracy are not desirable and equitable social order.
The woman was in the polis became the antithesis of a positive, active, male principle. At the Parthenon on the two places could see the struggle of the Greeks against the dangerous female troupe, the Amazons (the metopes and the Athena's shield), while in the temple, on the podium Athens Partenos there view of creating the first woman, Pandora, which, as we have learned from Hesiod, gods created as an evil for men. The final showdown with the role and position of women in Athenian society has been registered on the mythological level, the story about the trial of Orestes, murderer of the mother. The lawsuit was Apollos' argument prevailed, thanks to Athena's casting vote, that the woman just groove in which a man throws seed, and that she does not play a role in inheritance and does not determine the future no man. Orestes is, therefore, solely responsible father as a single parent. However, when you mention all the art and mythology of all, we know that these are fields in which most reflects the state ideology. The role of women in Greek society was hidden, but very important, as today in some areas of the Mediterranean. But what we are currently most interested in is to be very long portrayed women as revised (incomplete) man, and that odjevenost its natural state. It seems that the show (and show), femininity was particularly limited, and that is seen as subversive in a strictly male polis.
The fundamental tension that permeates the polis and who is much involved in the construction of Greek mythology, literature and culture in general, the conflict of the individual and authority, and desire and the law. Characteristically, the civil society of equal to the materialism and competitiveness rises ambitious and egotistical individual who lust for the material is transformed into the desire for all the pleasures available to him. Greeks see such a symposium, spree that has become a central ritual of civic life, where the drinking and the competition in elegance and wisdom of engaging in all possible sexual pleasures. Quite different is the Greek who walks under the heavy weapons as part of a faceless phalanx. Pressed and pushed the bodies completely lost personality, and the only thing left is his awareness of obedience to the strict requirements of the battleship row, which only he can ensure survival. His body, which plays a central role in his worldview, it is now part of a large body of the polis, and above it no longer has any power. When Plato says: What in fact what most people call it peace (...) is just empty words, and things are by nature all of the state (polis) in nenaviještenom constant war with all countries. (Laws 626-a), does this mean that peace is an unnatural, perhaps even more dangerous state of war? It is obvious that the constant uncertainty of war has a strong role in the cohesion policy. Uniformed and hardly moving phalanx carries a clear message to the necessity of unity and submission to the community.

My childhood (and now adulthood) was filled with odd phobias and beliefs. A long forgotten one resurfaced the other day for no apparent reason. It happened as it often does, sort of like a game of word association. One thought triggers another completely unrelated thought, and so on until some obscure recollection from decades ago remerges from the dark closet of repressed memory. In this case it was utter fear of wearing new shoes. Actually not the wearing of them per se, rather the reaction of other people seeing me in them. Probably a tie-in to a related phobia of not wanting to stand out in any way; literally a congenital desire to blend into the background. In my twisted thinking, new shoes would blow my cover and this was the cause of some high anxiety. As a result I would wear shoes well beyond their service life. Mom would threaten to throw away old shoes if I continued to wear them in public. When ‘new shoe’ day inevitably arrived I was a complete wreck. Even the act of purchasing them was awful. I still recall having to sit on a chair while a shoe salesman pressed my foot into one of those medieval looking measuring contraptions. Then out came the shiny new shoes from a box and onto my feet they went. Never liked the feel of new shoes, the stiffness and the awkwardness they caused me in walking (there was already enough of that as it was). That night I would set about trying to age the shoes by scuffing them up. Anything to erase the look of newness and help ease my transition into the next school day. Sad really, imagining some poor kid, holed up in his bedroom trying to distress his brand new shoes. But such is my life.
That’s a long intro for this photo, but still appropriate. I visited a sunflower field near sundown recently. It’s one of those things that most every photographer dreams of and most of us will shoot sooner or later. And I always wonder how I will interpret a scene that has already been shot by a million others before me. As luck would have it, I arrived at just the right time of day, just before sunset with ideal sky and cloud conditions. The resulting photos were languid and immersed in vibrant color. A lovely photo, but it didn’t quite fit my through-line of dreary beauty. But by toning down the color and brightness a bit, I achieved exactly the look and feel I was going for. In many ways, the original photo was like my new school shoes. Just needed a little distressing before I could feel comfortable wearing them.

Henry was born circa 2022.
Congenital sensorineural deafness in white cats is very common however and thankfully Henry's hearing is perfect. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congenital_sensorineural_deafness_i...

She is Keilin and at the time of this photo we didn´t know why she wasn´t growing up. She is 12 years old and she suffers Congenital Hypothyroidism, with our donators help we took her to specialist for her treatment, we are so happy as she has grown 3 cms in few months. isn´t that awesome? Also she is receiving physical therapy, dental care and yesterday was her first day at school (1st. Grade) so happy to have made a difference in her life, we look forward to improve more lives in my place, sadly there is so much need :(

Taken on Day of Life #10
They're little brother hangs onto life by a thread. I expect that he will soon pass away. My guess is a congenital--perhaps heart--defect. Definitely the sad part of rescue, but we have a gorgeous momma and four very healthy wee ones who are getting a fresh chance at life.

We have been floating through a very dangerous liminal space these past two years—somewhere between the old and future orders, the post-Cold War and the war that has yet to break out—and we are faced with questions, challenges, that our current leadership, on both sides of the aisle, is congenitally incapable of tackling. Will we succumb to our darker tendencies?

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” -Psalm 139:14
The last 3 1/2 months have been the most trying, scary, difficult time of our lives. Our sweet little Sylvie came into the world with a congenital heart defect that we were not aware of until she was a day old and failed a standard newborn test in the hospital. She was whisked away from us via helicopter and flown to the Phoenix Children's Hospital, where she underwent further testing, and we soon learned that our beautiful, perfect, new baby girl would need open heart surgery. Talk about a shock.
These past few months have been filled with anxiety and worry for the future, hope that she would come through this well, and so many mixed emotions I couldn't describe them if I tried. Our sweet girl did indeed have open heart surgery 13 days ago. She came through it like the warrior that I knew she was. She was off the ventilator in less than 12 hours and home in just 6 days. Her zipper is healing amazingly well (no, I did not touch it up at all). I can see the strength of an old soul in her eyes, and I do not know who decided I was worthy of being her mother, but I am so thankful and am looking forward to the journey. <3
A huge thank you goes out to all of our wonderful family and friends, her nurses and doctors, her surgeon, and everyone who has supported us during this time, lifted us up when we felt we had hit rock bottom, and made sure our sweet Sylvie would be able to go on and live a full life. <3

in the photograph, Meraj Uddin and Mehrunnecha are siblings and their brother Nazim with congenital extreme white skin disease along with their elder brother. They suffer physically and mentally cause of not being able to go to direct sunlight because of skin problems which also affect their eyes. even children of their age in society are very hesitant to mix with them Which makes their life difficult and mentally depressing. and their parents are now hopeless about the cure for their child.
