When you are in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, you are constantly confronted with one thing. And that's a lot of people. What is an absolute highlight for some quickly becomes a burden for others. As a landscape and nature photographer, I clearly belong to the second category.
And so I have to get out of the crowd from time to time and look for a quiet place to really enjoy my stay. Especially here, near the famous Charles Bridge, it's really not easy.
But I managed to do it halfway. And so I am now sitting, leaning my back against a wall, on the banks of the river Vltava and enjoying the sight of the historic buildings and the hustle and bustle at a pleasant distance.

This shot follows on from the last one (Happy New Year), and this was the sight I was confronted by when I emerged from the fog and the trees, and began climbing hgher onto Worcestershire Beacon. Pinnacle Hill was an island in a sea of fog that stretched for miles and miles in all directions, whilst above the winter sun shone down brightly on those of us who were lucky enough to share the spectacle.
Having been confronted head on by the dominant male this stag deferred and led the herd of young male and female deer up the hill. In his own time the dominant male left the clearing where they had been browsing and grazing to bring up the rear. With an occasioonal backward glance they were soon all out of sight.
Thank you all for your kind responses.

I can just leave and we can always meet later. Just, just call. OK? I'm staying with Phil. You have his number, don't you? You do. You do. Call and we'll meet... where... wherever... you want. It's really all up to you. That might even be better. Anything. I... I... I don't know. I... I... I don't, I don't mind really. Whatever. I mean you call and let me know. I'll stay with Phil a few days. I'll let you know... where... where I'd go after. You want me to. Right? I mean I know, I know you want that. That's what we need. That's what we should do. Hey, what do you say? Huh? Isn't that better? I thought we'd go out for lunch today but that's all right. You stay in. Do whatever and we'll meet again. Just call, just..."

He put the package down. First, he looked around the room and considered the console. It was a bit far. He had to walk all the length of the room. Coffee table was busy. That coffee table never had any room for anything. He could just leave it there where he was on the floor. He could do that. Why can't he just put it on the floor? Just there, right where he's standing, beside his feet. He could do that.

I was planning a morning trip to Crosby to have a go at Anthony Gormley's Another Place. Driving up The Wirral to the Mersey Tunnel made me have a rethink as there was no way I'd have been able to see anything. The only places I could think of to try and get above the fog were Everton Brow and the Princes Dock multi-storey car park.
Everton Brow overlooks the whole of Liverpool city centre but probably isn't the most advisable place to be wandering around in the dark on a foggy morning so I made the decision to try the car park. This wasn't without risk either having been refused entry several times before by security and I didn't want to pay £9 for two hours parking in case I wasn't above the fog. However, I was prepared to try a little bribe and bought a coffee from 'Bean' coffeeshop which occupies one of the retail units at the base of the car park in the hope if challenged they'd readily accept.
When I entered the foyer the blind was down on the security room so I pressed for the lift and nervously hit the top floor button. A couple of flights of stairs to the roof parking area slowly revealed the tops of many of the iconic skyline buildings poking out above the fog below. I sat for half an hour drinking the coffee and smoking too many roll ups as it started to get light and the city began to come alive with lights coming on and the traffic beginning to build.
The fog was swirling between the buildings and eventually began to clear enough to reveal a nice sky and this was the scene that presented itself when it was finally light enough to see some colour.
Superb morning with conditions I doubt I'll ever see again. Would I recommend it? Probably not as I was convinced I'd be confronted by security any minute.
Was it worth the risk? Absolutely, though it was wrong on so many levels....

Thanks to everyone who has visited. A confronting photo for some people. I appreciate very much the kind comments and faves which have been left.
A huntsman spider, probably Heteropoda jugulans. Male and female huntsman spiders are similar in size with the males having longer legs and females slightly bigger bodies. Actually, I am not sure whether this is a male or female. Unlike many spiders, the males do not risk being eaten after mating. Some species of huntsman spiders live in colonies. Normally, huntsman spiders are nocturnal. However, this spider was out in the afternoon. It has eight eyes. The upper four appear closed. Perhaps it was squinting because of the bright light.
For the Macro Mondays theme "Inspired by a Song". The song I chose is "Boris the Spider" by the Who. Perhaps a slightly larger spider than the Who had in mind but definitely a little creepy. The spider was on a variegated bromeliad leaf in my garden and was left undisturbed after being photographed. Huntsman spiders can also be found indoors.
Macrophotography has made me appreciate what a diverse and fascinating group of animals that spiders are.

Boris the Spider by The Who
Look, he's crawling up my wall
Black and hairy, very small
Now he's up above my head
Hanging by a little thread
Boris the spider
Boris the spider
Now he's dropped on to the floor
Heading for the bedroom door
Maybe he's as scared as me
Where's he gone now, I can't see
Boris the spider
Boris the spider
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
There he is wrapped in a ball
Doesn't seem to move at all
Perhaps he's dead, I'll just make sure
Pick this book up off the floor
Boris the spider
Boris the spider
Creepy, crawly

Sunny follows me everywhere whenever he spots me. He's such a friendly kitty, like those community cats in Istanbul, Turkey. He regards me as his bodyguard as he knows Joey wouldn't confront him while I'm with him.
We've already been feeding Sunny for months and have taken care of his minor wounds, fleas and the occasional eye infection.
As much as I care for this young one, I have never forgotten my commitment towards Joey, who has been my feline companion for the past twelve years.
Sunny is much more affectionate than Joey as he probably misses the company of humans. I'm sure he wasn't born a feral and he may have once been someone's cat but dumped in this area during the height of the pandemic. 😢

I let out my blind dog Cinnamon and was standing around the corner of the house from her. I heard her barking. Thinking she was barking at the neighbors, I went to tell her to stop and met this fellow. She was confronting him as he ate my oak leaf hydrangea bushes.

Alfred Kubin: Der Tod bei der Arbeit (um 1923)
Tusche, Aquarell auf Papier | India ink, watercolor on paper
From the exhibition ALFRED KUBIN. CONFESSIONS OF A TORTURED SOUL in the Leopold Museum in Vienna
"The art of the great draftsman, illustrator and author of the novel The Other Side, Alfred Kubin, appears more current today than ever before: for it was violence, wartime destruction, pandemics, natural disasters, the manipulation of the masses and other abysses of human existence that pervaded his highly narrational works. The oeuvre of this fantastical creator confronts us with pessimistic visions which – to quote Schopenhauer – delineate “the worst of all possible worlds”."
