Taken in the Queen Elizabeth Gardens Park, in Salisbury, UK. One of the smaller channels of the River Avon which run through the city, joins the River Nadder, just upstream of its own confluence with the main Avon Channel.

Mousesweet Haiku
Two waters meet here,
Mousesweet Brook and Black Brook.
Confluence of streams.
photo/Haiku (c) Garry Corbett.
Created for the Art Yard Gallery in Cradley Heath for their Green Spaces project. An exhibition is planned which will include work across multiple disciplines on the theme of local green spaces. Spaces which have really come into their own in the last year as areas for physical exercise and mental well being.
My photograph will also be on permanent display in the new visitors centre at another local nature reserve.
Mousesweet Brook Local Nature Reserve is in Cradley Heath and has 4.3 hectares of mainly wet woodland, grassland, a pool and the Mousesweet Brook itself, which here forms the boundary between Sandwell and Dudley.
Footpaths and a boardwalk link the different habitats and a footbridge over the brook leads to the Saltwells Local Nature Reserve, managed by Dudley MBC. The Reserve also has a small childrens play area.
For further information contact 0121 588 6154 or 0121 569 3069.
Wildlife
Great spotted and green woodpeckers are often to be seen or heard and a grey wagtail or kingfisher may be encountered along the brook. Buzzards can sometimes be seen circling overhead.
A variety of woodland and grassland flora can be seen, providing habitat for several species of butterfly during the summer.
Location
The main pedestrian access points to the Reserve are from New Pool Road (B64 5BX), Forge Lane and Silverthorne Lane, Cradley Heath.
Parking
There is limited roadside parking on New Pool Road and Silverthorne Lane.
Transport
Mousesweet Brook is well served by public transport, being close to Cradley Heath bus and railway stations. Contact Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 for further details.
Disabled Access
Surfaced paths and a boardwalk enable wheelchair access to areas of woodland, grassland and the childrens play area.
Opening
The site is open to the public at all times.
Confluence
Where the Rivers Irvine and Garnock meet to flow into the Firth of Clyde.
I was really attracted to the alignment of the posts etc in the centre of the shot. Then I spotted that the water surface had two textures – one calm, the other a bit agitated. Some metaphor about taking the rough with the smooth would fit here.
