For this weeks assignment I wanted to work with sunglasses. I grabbed two pairs of sunglasses that I had, one having reflective lenses and the other just being all black. I tried out both pairs, and was unable to decide which I preferred. I liked the reflective ones, but I thought it could be a little distracting as a portrait. I made my subject, Ryan, give me multiple expressions (almost all confident looks). I wanted the expression to match the style of sunglasses he was wearing. I tried one with Ryan standing up as well, and I think it worked out well. Editing for this week included adjusting levels and curves, using the sepia effect, and also boosting the yellows in the portraits. They added more color to the photos and made them turn out better. This seemed to be a successful week!

This is Christopher. This kid is destined for something in the future, and I think somehow in the back of his mind he knows it.
It really is a miracle that he's here today. He's Tom's brother and he was riding with him on the bicycle when they were hit by a car in February of 2010. My friend Tom passed away in that horrible accident, but thankfully Chris survived. I lost my friend, but I thank God every day that Chris is still here and is doing well.
I've become really close with Tom's family and Chris and I are very close friends. In a way, he's kind of like my little brother now.
I always tell him that one day he's going to find a cure for a disease or maybe discover a new planet. Or he'll help or inspire people in some other way. Some day. But right now, he just needs to be a kid.
I took this with my Minolta SRT-101 camera, and Kodak Tri-X film. We were up at the Mormon Rocks, in the Cajon Pass in southern California.
