under the high sun, concrete pillars stand like unresolved thoughts. the earth curves gently away, and the walkers — dwarfed by space, luminous with distance — move as if weightless. shadow listens in the corners, waiting for a story that only emptiness can tell.

I have an expansive patch of wild strawberries and violets at the bottom of my garden. A narrow trail has formed through the middle of it where rainwater drains and where I walk through. I just got these small concrete star-shaped flowers to mark the trail and to give me small stepping stones to avoid the mud. I’ll need about 20 more stones to complete the trail. It’s too hot to plant right now, so I’m adding little bits of art to my garden.

Whatever they saw, it was all around us!

A sculpture/ assemblage that took a long time to get right. It is made from vintage Cuisenaire rods (used to teach Maths). The difficulty I discovered is that each extra piece you add changes the composition so you essentially have a sculptural problem as soon as you have about three or four rods. You have to balance the composition and the colours. As you go though, you obliterate most of your earlier work by fixing new rods over the others. As you add more the scale of the rods relative to the whole size of the piece changes so that adds another problem to contend with. On top of that, the whole piece wants to tip over (because I wanted the dynamism of the piece intersecting the floor plane at an angle) so the centre of gravity defines the shape also to some extent. Anyway, a strangely difficult piece (but you wouldn’t think it to look at it). About 400mm tip to base.

Exploring a different composite, ethereal style is a shot from Oshawa's Parkwood Estate this summer.

By the way, I've created a new Flickr group, "Flickr in Durham Region". (www.flickr.com/groups/durham_region/). It's goal is to create a forum where we Flickrites can post, comment and make suggestions on unique areas to capture imagery here "east of Toronto". Currently, there are 6 members, however I'm reaching out for more participants, for those who live here, but also to those who don't and are curious to what Durham Region has to offer :)

A girl's figure against giant concrete walls—lost in thought, small in the vastness.

You tilt your head, and suddenly the sky feels within reach. The lines pull you upward, daring you to follow where concrete meets the clouds. A quiet challenge—how far can your eyes travel before they lose themselves in blue infinity?

What do you get when a concrete structure dreams of being citrus?

This oddly satisfying scene captures what looks like a giant orange cut into four pieces — only it's made of cement, with cracks like a canyon and a splash of water for dramatic effect.

The stones on top? Texture. The black and white filter? Pure artistic angst.

It’s not just a photo of some urban object — it’s a metaphor for life, crossroads, and why city planners might secretly be fruit enthusiasts.

Shot on a Motorola G55, because who needs a DSLR when your phone gets this moody?

A bit of a departure from what I usually build. Got inspired by the concrete sculptures by David Umemoto and decided to make my own in the medium I'm most comfortable in. Eliminating gaps and studs to get a clean pour took some time as I had just enough silicone and concrete for one go at it. It's not perfect but I think the imperfections adds to the weathered look. Will post some process pics on instagram for anyone interested.
