I wish I had moved back a little and gotten more of the cone's base. I need to slow down sometimes. (I know some of my faults).

The Teesside works of the BSC employed this extraordinary mobile compressor loco using compressed air transmission. Identified as 'MC1', it was one of three converted in-house, using the frames of former steelworks four-coupled locos built by Peckett and Hawthorn Leslie. 'MC1' was a 1958 conversion from Peckett 'W4' Class 0-4-0 saddle tank (W/No.668 built in 1897) originally supplied new to Bolckow Vaughan & Co, South Bank Steel, and was still in use as a compressor on 28th October 1977.

“END OF AN ERA” - Qantas B717

Today was the final flights of the B717 for Qantas Link, and it started with a BANG!! Upon rotation out of Canberra, VH-YQW suffered a ‘compressor stall’ and corrected itself, and continued onto Sydney, when it was subbed out for the day utilising the ‘Operational Spare’ VH-YQS.

Spent the day over multiple locations, catching up with multiple people as well!!! Busy as day!!

Once upon a time, pharmacists made up their own medicines and bottled them. Then they had to get a cork into the bottle. This is a cork compressor; the fresh cork is placed in the slot and the handle forced shut to compress it. The cork is quickly put in the bottle neck where it expands to seal the bottle. Not high tech, but it worked!

a well built little unit, all cast iron but no tag to see who made it probably made in the 20s, 30s or 40s made like a real compressor not these aluminum oliless cheap ones made now. i saw one on the web listed as montgomery ward but still have no idea who built it i think it is a kellogg i saw one very similar in a book

I found this compressor mounted on the bed of a pickup truck. It made me laugh so I had to photograph it.

About

Someone said "Making photo's is one thing, editing is the other. Control both and perfect picture will become in range". I am not claiming this one to be a perfect picture, it for sure isn't, but i do agree with the quote. For a change, i had enough time to do some decent processing on this one. I did experiment a bit more with the colors, hope you like it.

The shot:

Standard 3 exposures HDR [-2,0,+2EV] in RAW/ISO100 at 17 mm, f/8 using the Canon 50D and Canon EF-S 17-55 mm F/2.8 IS USM lens on a tripod.

Photomatix:

Tonemapped using the 'Tone Compressor'

Photoshop:

The usual and some more photoshop stuff:'Hue/Saturation', 'Curves', 'Brightness/Contrast', 'Shadow/Highlights', 'unsharp mask'

On February 12, 1954, a USAF F-86 Sabre crashed into Grouse Mountain, killing the pilot. The Air Force was quick to clean up the crash site, but left the J47 engine, which can still be found just off the Skyline Trail.

It is one of my favorite photography places here. I should have taken it with a little clearer lens.

I was going to look after the parade of the summer festival on that day, but left it while I drank beer.

Mackay's Mine Hill is the most significant part of the Alder Creek Mining District. Ore was first discovered in 1879, meaning full production began in 1884, and ore was mined into the 1980s. Almost a million tons of ore have been removed over the years, yielding about 42,000 oz. of gold, 2,000,000 oz. of silver, 62,000,000 lbs. of copper, 15,000,000 lbs. of lead, and 5,000,000 lbs. of zinc. Geological sampling still occurs, and mining could be renewed at any time to withdraw the millions of dollars of ore remaining in the ground.

The Roystone Grange limestone quarry was developed around the time of the First World War and by 1920 was using compressed air drills to assist in extracting the stone. This compressor house to supply the air was erected some distance away where there was a spring that supplied water to cool the oil engines and compressors. The structure has been secured and the roof is sound but it stands empty and unused.

2 cylinder electric powered air compressor on Australia Level, which supplied power for drills and other machinery in the quarry.

Struck by a run-away tire, Mr. Compressor lies in wait of assistance.

I found this while out for a walk, quite unexpectedly. And, by sheer coincidence, We're Here looking for unexpected objects in unexpected places. I think it was unexpected by Mr. Compressor also!
