This is perhaps our #1 most-requested option... that usually doesn't make it into the final design.
However, in this location these steps provide a great accent to an otherwise basic deck layout, and with the added patio & concrete extensions, should allow for quite a party!

We've spent the last two months tearing out and replacing our rotting deck, and renovating the back yard. We demolished 40% of the deck to increase the grassy area (we had very little crass before, visible in the first picture).
To compensate, we made use of otherwise useless space, as we own down into a ravine with a steep retaining wall well within our property boundary (the yard still is not that big, however- Dallas lots are small in general). The resulting overhang encompassed four trees that used to reside outside the old fence, and are now comfortable in the middle of the deck- providing ample shade for hot summer days, and there is frequently a breeze out there as we are near the top of a high spot in Dallas (which is really not all that high, but hey, it's mostly prairie around here).
Overall, we are really pleased with the work. Most was hired out, though I did the planting an resodding with new grass (7000lbs of it).
Also, we replaced the old wooden fence with wrought iron to open up the view to the creek and trees. All I want to do now is be outside- I even do a lot of my work out there during the daytime- why work inside on a nice day when I can sit out here?
Also, we got rid of the pesky hot tub- daily maintenance required for something we used 3x in 5 years.
