Winter evenings, squabbling over which sibling had which piece. The top hat was my favourite for some reason.

This is a close-up photograph of the intricate, rusted and weathered components of an old threshing machine. Primarily used for wheat and oats, this piece of agricultural machinery dates back to the late 1800s. The lighting here emphasizes the textures and depth of the machinery, showing the various metal rods, chains, sprockets, and curved metal paddles.
Companies like the Wood Brothers in Des Moines, Iowa, manufactured this machine that helped revolutionize agriculture. However, farmers still needed the support of labor-intensive crews (8+ men). So, threshing rings were formed and acted as community cooperatives, with farmers sharing labor, machinery, and often moving from farm to farm during the harvest.
With endless fields of corn and soybeans today, I find it interesting that Iowa’s cash crop was initially wheat in the early 1800s. However, after facing crop failures, soil depletion, and pest issues with wheat, farmers pivoted to corn and hogs by the Civil War (1861-1865), primarily due to soil suitability and basic economics. Soybeans became popular in the 1920s and by 1969, Iowa had become the second-largest state in soybean production, harvesting 171 million bushels.

Yahtzee has been played in our family over generations. We haven't played for years but I found the game in the back of a cupboard. Apart from the smell of moth balls, it still had some old scorecards from way back when.

By Dennis Oppenheim: Yorkshire Sculpture Park (UK)
As with much of Oppenheim's earlier work, Trees: From Alternative Landscape Components act as a dialogue, this time between the natural and artificial landscape and as a comment on the act of creating environments.

A master of “lost wax” casting, Jon Lash developed the “lost wood method” of casting in order to create complex metal compositions. Initially, the piece is designed in wood. He then casts each component using either a ceramic shell or sand mold. These elements are then welded together to simulate the original wood relief.

One from the final few days of last year with all 3 (at the time) remaining Belgian Air Component Sea Kings from 40 Squadron. Seen returning after the last 3 ship farewell tour. RS02 has since retired and the remaining RS04 and RS05 retiring by end of March. Long live the king!
The beauty here arises from the interplay of perfectly normal physical and biological processes:
Sunlight is scattered by the moist morning air. Tiny water droplets in the mist primarily deflect the short-wavelength components of the light, while warm, yellow-gold light remains dominant. This creates the soft rays and the warm color palette. At the same time, leaves, grass, and water absorb and reflect light differently, creating contrasts and depth.
Our brains perceive this as "beautiful" because they have an evolutionarily positive response to patterns such as smooth transitions, natural symmetries, and color harmonies—for millions of years, these signaled safe, life-friendly environments.
In short: Physics shapes the light, biology shapes the landscape, and our brains create beauty from it.

In this shot of Copper Island, the cloud I saw from a distance plays a major part. As it was forming I raced to a familiar spot to catch it at just the right time. Copper Island is left as a silhouette, and makes the shot more about shapes than the nature it captures.

FR – 28 mars 2007 14h43 – Foucaucourt-sur-Thabas (Meuse) – Km 200,5 LGV Est-Européenne

It was a world record in braking, albeit an entirely unintended one.
At around km 207, a composite flange fitted to an instrumented wheel intended to protect strain gauges became detached while the V150 was accelerating through 506 km/h (314.4 mph).
Once loose, the component, nicknamed the “frisbee”, fragmented, its debris bouncing off the ballast and sending stones flying, causing minor damage. A window in one of the intermediate trailers (R1) was shattered, but more significantly, the main brake pipe was severed, triggering an emergency brake application.
Brake disc temperatures recorded on the carrying bogie of trailer R8 rose to 650°C, yet the braking performance remained fully under control. The train came to a stand after 16.8 km, at km 191.
The support trainset, TGV POS 4404, was then brought up behind and coupled to the V150, and the combined consist returned to Paris. Back at the Pantin Technicentre, overnight repairs enabled testing to resume the following day. Unsurprisingly, all remaining “frisbees” were promptly removed.

The three components that comprise a jaw coupling, sometimes also referred to by the brand name shown in the picture, used to attach a motor to a driven device, typically in industrial equipment.
The design of this coupling offers a means of shock and vibration absorption through the rubber spider used to join the two hubs. Selling each hub separately allows mixing and matching shaft sizes as circumstances require, within reasonable limits.

Eros, Philia y Ágape
----------------------

A team finishes assembly of GR7-b Single-Operator Repair Pod. Component pallettes were brought directly off of elevator cars at Geo1 and into the assembly bays. When construction is complete, the doors comprising the outer-facing half of the bay will be opened and the GR7-b will be towed out.
I had a blast making this particular scene. I have several types of wall panels in here that I wanted to contrast in style but still flow together and I am very happy with the result. I tried to fill up the non-door walls of the bay with equipment and I found a couple cool parts and techniques in my efforts.
For the most part, the bay is actually fully finished and I may post slightly different angles without the GR7 in the way as there are a couple of things hiding behind it. Also, I will post more renders with the GR7 but I have to find a reasonable angle for it as the front canopy would look a lot better with some custom stickers.
And the Guadalupe is basically complete save for a bow operations room and a few other details.

Metal KPRK radio rotunda, iconic Livingston symbol removed
Dan Astin Enterprise Staff Writer Dec 1, 2023
The faux stylized radio tower spire, an iconic symbol of KPRK radio and Livingston, was removed on Thursday, as part an ongoing construction project, restoring the derelict broadcasting building and grounds to their formal glory.
In reference to the rotunda's temporary removal during restoration, Andrew Feltenstein, owner of Moleo Media Group, a limited liability company, which is the site's property owner, said "We can't save everything, but we will be putting the rotunda back up."
Juston Gougeon, founder and vice president of operations for Basecamp Construction, the contractor responsible for the restoration, inferred rehabbing the radio station, which has been abandoned for over a decade, will have different challenges, in order to preserve the station's unique exterior architecture.
As part of preserving the building as a public business for the future, steel beams and hydraulics will need to lift the entire structure above the Yellowstone River flood-plane.
The nearly 80 year old structure will have to be brought up to Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility specifications, with all components of the building's infrastructure modernized, without altering the exterior.
An outdoor amphitheater for music events is a planned edition to the rear of the property.
The contractor explained finishing the restoration project, which will be assisted in-part through historic preservation tax credits, will be worth it in the end.
"There's going to be a lot of money invested in Livingston in the next 10 years. Andrew's passion for this project is contagious and Basecamp Construction is excited to be a part of the restoration of one of Livingston's most iconic buildings," said Gougeon.

Let me take you on a brief musical journey through my past... music has always been one of the most important components of my life. My dad is a guitarist and music lover, and his huge blaring stereo (all 500w of it) provided a constant background to my childhood. The first LP I bought was a Beatles compilation when I was about 8.
At the age of 10 I was in awe of Adam Ant. A year later I was a mod, dancing to The Who, The Jam and The Small Faces (and the odd bit of ska) at the local youth club.
By the time I got to my mid teens I was getting into metal (the heavier the better). Then later on indie, industrial, goth, etc. etc... But in between all that from the age of 12 to 14 I was really into this new style of music which you may have heard of called 'Hip Hop'.
My dad got me into rap in 1982, when he imported the first Grandmaster Flash album ('The Message') - his love of funk also contributing heavily (Prince Charles (the other one), George Clinton, early Prince, etc). But when rap really started breaking into the mainstream in the mid-80s, I lapped it up.
I would watch the movie 'Breakdance' on repeat play until the video broke; practice my (dire) human-beatboxing; and listen to my three favourite 12" singles:
- '(Nothing Serious) Just Buggin' ' by Whistle ;
- 'Bang Zoom! Let's Go Go!' by The Real Roxanne with Hitman Howie Tee;
- and the seminal 'The Show' by Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew (otherwise know as 'that song with the Inspector Gadget hook').
And here they still all are... complete with original price tags (£2.79p - from E.G.S and Son in Wakefield).
For a few years rap got better and better - and it almost seemed like it was growing and maturing with me (with the likes of Public Enemy and NWA). Which just makes me feel really bitter about all of the self-centred, 'Bitch/Ho/Bling' crap of the last fifteen years or so... But I guess it happens to all musical genres as they are subsumed by the marketing gurus and money men. The originators remain pennyless - but their morals intact - while the insipid pretenders milk the cash cow until it's dry. Give me Melle Mel over Jay Z anyday.
Gah... anyway. Listening to these EPs now just makes me feel young and FRESH all over again. Check it- check it out.
(Oh, and new prescription shades y'all!)
PT&P custom designed seventy-eight figure 2000 heavy duty pipe saddles for two 24" insulated ductile iron pipelines. The two pipelines are routed beneath a 650' bridge crossing over a river in upper New York State. The insulation is 3" thick with high density polyethylene jacketing. Axial movements due to expansion can approach 3". In order for the jacketing to avoid being damaged when displacements occur, the saddles have been lined with polished stainless steel.
