The Clayton Business Park, in Clayton South, was for some time a site of automobile assembly and manufacture for the Volkswagen and Nissan brands. Volkswagen assembly began in 1954, using the Martin & King factory on Centre Road. Martin & King, railway and car coach builders, built the factory in 1951 and in 1952 announced a plan to assemble knocked-down Jowett Javelin cars at Clayton, but
Jowett ceased production in of the type in 1953 and
Locally built Volkswagen content rose to 95% before losses in the late 1960s saw a renewed emphasis on imported components and direct Volkswagen Australia management of the site give way to Motor Producers Ltd, a Volkswagen subsidiary, 1968. This company diversified the output of the Clayton plant to feature other marques, including Nissan Datsuns and Volvos. In 1976, Motor Producers Ltd and the Clayton factory were sold to Nissan, which, despite significant investment in the site, closed the factory in 1992.
Although outside the City of Monash, the site was within one of Monash's predecessors, the City of Oakleigh. Clayton, and later Clayton South, was the suburb's name during its time as a major vehicle production line. See locale on Google Maps.

This great receiver is known by collectors as "The Fan", for obvious reasons. This one still keeps the hardware with chain to hang it on the wall and works very well with the original electronic components. The knobs for volume and tuning are concentric and beautifully painted on the reverse side.
It has a chassis with seven transistors and two loudspeakers powered by four 1.5V, "D" size batteries.
Russian T34/85. In 1943 after the battle of Kursk, the Russians realised that they needed a tank with more firepower than the T34/76. Under development at the time was a replacement for the T34 called the T43, designed to use as many components from the T34 as possible. Four tons heavier than the T34 it was slower and not proof against the German 88mm. To develop a completely new tank at this stage of the war was not an option so the T34 was given an upgrade, the most important of which was the three man turret and the hard hitting 85mm cannon. Governor Tomblin, Department of Commerce
Celebrate West Virginia's Top Exporters
Governor recognizes 37 West Virginia exporters,
announces STEP grant funding
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (August 24, 2016) - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, along with West Virginia Department of Commerce Secretary Keith Burdette, on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, awarded the International Market Entry Award to 37 companies from across the Mountain State. These awards honor West Virginia companies that successfully exported to a new country. In 2015, West Virginia companies exported more than $5.8 billion in products to more than 140 countries.
During the award presentation, Gov. Tomblin also announced that West Virginia has been once again selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration to receive funding through the State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) grant initiative. These funds will support the West Virginia Development Office's export assistance program to help small businesses offset the costs of international business.
"Today we celebrate West Virginia companies that have proven our state can compete successfully in the global market. Exports are a vital tool for economic growth," Gov. Tomblin said. "These businesses are an asset to our state as we continue to grow our business landscape and diversify West Virginia's economy. I always look forward to this opportunity to recognize their successes."
The Governor's Commendation for International Market Entry Awards honor companies that have successfully exported to a new country in the previous year. Each company receives a framed piece of currency from each new country to which the business began exporting. The presentation is based on the tradition of displaying the first dollar a business earns.
Companies receiving the Governor's Commendation for the first time this year are Probe America in Beckley, Mountain State Hardwoods in Bancroft, and Mountaineer Brand in Shepherdstown. In a special presentation, Wheeling Truck Center received its 100th export award. Since making their first export sale in 2010, the company has exported to more than 100 countries.
The West Virginia Development Office International Division helps small- to medium-sized West Virginia businesses enter new foreign markets. For more information on export development services offered by the state, visit www.worldtradewv.org.

The original entrance to the theme park.
Over the years, Universal Studios Florida has not limited itself to attractions based on its own vast film library. It has occasionally licensed popular characters from other rival studios, many of whom did not operate theme parks themselves. Some examples include Ghostbusters and Men in Black, (Sony's Columbia Pictures), The Simpsons (20th Century Fox) and Shrek (DreamWorks Animation).
Many of the park's past and present attractions were developed with the actual creators of the films they were based on, and feature the original stars as part of the experience. Steven Spielberg helped create E.T. Adventure and was a creative consultant for Back to the Future: The Ride, Twister...Ride it Out, An American Tail Theatre, Jaws, Men in Black: Alien Attack and Transformers: The Ride.
In many current rides, the original stars reprised their film roles including: Rip Torn and Will Smith in Men in Black: Alien Attack, Brendan Fraser for Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride, Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt in Twister...Ride it Out, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Edward Furlong and Linda Hamilton reprised their roles for Terminator 2: 3-D Battle Across Time, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow for Shrek 4D, Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher reprised their roles from Despicable Me for Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, and Peter Cullen and Frank Welker reprised their roles as Optimus Prime and Megatron for Transformers: The Ride.
In many former rides, the many original stars were also to reprise their film roles such as: Christopher Lloyd and Thomas F. Wilson in Back to the Future: The Ride, Roy Scheider recorded a voice over for the conclusion of Jaws, Alfred Hitchcock and Anthony Perkins appeared in Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies, additionally, various Nicktoon voice actors reprised their roles in Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast.
Park history[edit]
From its inception in 1982,[3] Universal Studios Florida was designed as a theme park and a working studio. It was also the first time that Universal Studios had constructed an amusement park "from the ground up." However, the proposed project was put on hold until 1986, when a meeting between Steven Spielberg, a co-founder for the park, and Peter N. Alexander prompted for the creation of a Back to the Future simulator ride in addition to the already planned King Kong based ride.[4]
A major component of the original park in Hollywood is its studio tour, which featured several special-effects exhibits and encounters built into the tour, such as an attack by the great white shark from the film Jaws. For its Florida park, Universal Studios took the concepts of the Hollywood tour scenes and developed them into larger, stand-alone attractions. As an example, in Hollywood, the studio tour trams travel close to a shoreline and are "attacked" by Jaws before they travel to the next part of the tour. In Florida, guests entered the "Jaws" attraction and would board a boat touring the fictitious Amity Harbor, where they encountered the shark, then exited back into the park at the conclusion of the attraction. Universal Studios Florida originally had a Studio Tour attraction that visited the production facilities, but that tour has since been discontinued.
Branding[edit]
Previous slogans for Universal Studios Florida were: See the Stars. Ride the Movies. (1990 - 1998); No one makes believe like we do! (1990 - 1998); Ride the Movies (1998 - 2008); Jump into the Action (2008–2012). The current slogan is: Experience the Movies (2012–present).
Timeline[edit]
1986: Land clearing takes place on the swamp land purchased by MCA/Universal that would hold the park.
1987: Universal Studios Florida is announced at a press conference on the Hollywood property, with a planned opening date of December 1989.
1988: Universal Studios Florida's opening date is delayed from December, 1989 to May 1, 1990. Shortly following, MCA/Universal releases a video detailing the future park, which stars Christopher Lloyd as the Universal character Doc Brown interacting with the various attractions at the Florida park.[5] Universal Studios allows guests to witness the production of television shows and motion pictures in the Florida park's soundstages in middle 1988, while the rest of the studio/park is still under construction.[6]
1989: MCA/Universal Studios claims that The Walt Disney Company and its CEO, Michael Eisner copied several concepts of the Universal Studios Florida park, and integrated them into Disney's recently opened Disney/MGM Studios park.[7]
1990: On January 31, Universal Studios Florida's opening date is again delayed from May 1, 1990 to June 7, 1990.[8] Universal Studios Florida begins soft openings for the general public in late May.[9] Many of the park's attractions are not yet open at the time, and still under testing. Universal Studios Florida is officially opened with a grand opening style ceremony on June 7.[10] The park opens with five themed areas: The Front Lot (entrance area), Production Central, New York, San Francisco/Amity, Expo Center, Hollywood as well as a Lagoon located in the center of the park. The Front Lot and Production Central areas are referred to as "In Production", the New York section is referred to as "Now Shooting", the San Francisco and Amity sections are referred to as "On Location" and the Expo Center area is referred to as "The World of CineMagic Center". Nickelodeon Studios also opened on this day where there was a grand opening ceremony hosted by Marc Summers. Due to massive technical problems with the original Kongfrontation, Earthquake: The Big One and Jaws rides, Universal begins a temporary voucher service to allow guests to re-visit the studio/park when the attractions are operating.[10] Jaws is temporarily closed by Universal on September 30 due to persistent major technical problems. During the shut-down, Universal sues the original designer of the Jaws ride,[11] Ride & Show Engineering, and hires Totally Fun Company to create a re-designed version of most of the ride.

The Islands of Adventure Preview Center opens in the New York area, replacing The Screen Test Home Video Adventure. It is meant to give guests a preview of the up-coming Islands of Adventure park, as well as expansion of the Studio park into the Universal Studios Escape resort.
1998: The expansion begins as the original open parking lot for Universal Studios Florida is demolished and replaced by CityWalk and a parking garage complex.[18] Universal delays the opening of Twister...Ride it Out from March, 1998 to May 4, 1998 out of respect for the 42 deaths caused by a recent El Nino outbreak of tornadoes in the central Florida area. Twister...Ride it Out opens in the New York area, replacing Ghostbusters Spooktacular.[19] A new area of the park, Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone, is officially opened, holding the attractions Curious George Goes to Town, StarToons and the previously opened Fievel's Playland, E.T. Previous attractions[edit]
Main article: List of former Universal Studios Florida attractions
The previous icon of the Jaws ride is still a popular photo spot.
Like all theme parks, attractions are sometimes closed due to aging and replaced with more contemporary attractions. Universal has seen this happen several times. Some notable closures include Kongfrontation, Back to the Future: The Ride, The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera and Jaws. The closures of Kongfrontation, Back to the Future, and Jaws have been given homages by the park to honor veteran visitors who revered the former rides.

Universal Studios Florida features seven themed areas all situated around a large lagoon. In 2012, this lagoon was the site of Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories, a thematic display that showcased scenes from various Universal films, featuring lasers, projectors and fountains, and pyrotechnics.
The seven surrounding themed areas, clockwise from the entrance, are Production Central, New York, San Francisco, London/Diagon Alley, World Expo, Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone and Hollywood. Each area features a combination of rides, shows, attractions, character appearances, dining outlets and merchandise stores. A new area, based on Harry Potter's Diagon Alley was added to the park in the July of 2014.

Christ’s Baptism: Theophany
Can you recall any paintings of naked kings? Artists went to great lengths to show how richly a ruler was dressed, for nothing revealed wealth and power more vividly than opulent clothing. In some versions of the icon of Christ’s baptism, the king of kings is without even so much as a loin cloth. His startling nakedness underscores the theme of self-emptying love shown in many icons of Christ — for the sake of the world and the salvation of the human race, he stripped himself of everything, of every privilege and comfort. In the nakedness of Christ we see not another emperor, but a new Adam.
We see the Savior is surrounded by water. Like the people of Israel crossing the Red Sea, this is an image of a new beginning, a second birth.
On the left side of the icon stands the last of the prophets, John the Forerunner, in a garment as rugged as the land surrounding the River Jordan, while on the right angels worship the Savior, their hands covered as a token of reverence.
Though overcome with the realization that he is unworthy even to touch the strap of Jesus’s sandal, nonetheless John is baptizing the Messiah. It is an act of obedience. John had begged to exchange places and himself be baptized, but Jesus insisted that John do to him as he had done to others. “Leave it like this for the present; it is fitting that we should in this way do all that righteousness demands.”
The humility of Christ in asking John to baptize him underscores the Gospel message that the Son of Man has come not to rule but to serve and to take upon himself all the sins of the world. “Being himself the fullness,” comments Father Lev Gillet, “he wished to take into himself all that was incomplete and unfinished.”
There is significance in John the Baptist’s hand resting on Christ’s head, a sacramental gesture that remains to this day is an integral element of the baptismal service.
In many versions of the icon, two strange small figures are found in the water on either side of Christ’s feet among the fish. One has turned his back on Christ, the other is seen riding a fish or running away. The figure on the left is an allusion to Elisha turning the river Jordan backward in its course, making it a dry pathway while the figure on the left is an allusion to the parting of the Red Sea to provide a safe passage to the people of Israel fleeing Egypt, an event the Church came to recognize as prefiguring baptism.
What will become the rite of entrance into the Church, baptism, has its origin in this event in the Jordan. The water is at once both grave and womb; the old, unredeemed self is drowned and a new self is born, made one with Christ. While Christ himself had no need for the purification implied by baptism, he not only provided a pattern for the sacrament, but in his baptism we see his crucifixion and resurrection prefigured.
Yet the event this icon connects us to is more mysterious than baptism. The word Theophany, another word used for the Feast of Christ’s baptism, comes from the Greek and means the showing or manifestation of God. What is of primary importance in Christ’s baptism is that occasioned a revelation of the Holy Trinity. It is for this reason, in the hierarchy of festivals, Theophany is third in importance, after Pascha and Pentecost.
On the banks of the Jordan, John and all who witnessed the event heard the voice of God the Father, “This is my beloved Son,” while they saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove and resting on the head of Christ. Still more than John’s action, it is this mystical event that is the real baptism of Christ.
As also in the Nativity icon, the presence of God the Father is represented with a circle partially visible at the top of the icon. This mirrors the text in Mark’s Gospel: “the heavens opened.” We find the Holy Spirit, having become visible in the form of a dove, in the smaller circle within the ray of divine energy reaching toward the figure of Christ. (The image of God the Father as an elderly man with a white beard violates Orthodox canons of iconography. Iconographers suggest the Father through such devices as an empty throne or a hand reaching out from a heavenly cloud. )
The angels on the right also underscore the Holy Trinity. When there are three — as in this example, a fifteenth century icon from Novgorod — the person at prayer before the icon is reminded of the three angels who appeared to Abraham and Sarah at the oak of Mamre, the Bible’s first vivid hint of the Trinity.
Theophany is also the celebration of the beginning of Christ’s public ministry. Few had been called to worship in the stable of his birth, and for three decades afterward almost nothing is known of Jesus’s activities. In coming to John for baptism, Jesus reveals himself to those whom he is saving. He who was hidden, whose true identity had been known only to Mary and Joseph, now stands revealed as Messiah in the view of all.
The Orthodox Church’s celebration of the feast on January 6 includes a solemn blessing of water. In Russia, I’ve seen an entire parish troop off in bitter weather and falling snow to do this at the nearest river. After the ice is broken, the priest repeatedly traces the sign of the cross in the frigid water while the choir sings the hymns of the day: “You have descended into the waters and have given light to all things.... Where indeed should your light have shone except upon those who dwell in darkness?.... The nature of water is sanctified .... Let us then draw water in gladness, O brethren, for upon those who draw with faith, the grace of the Spirit is invisibly bestowed by Christ the God and Savior of our souls.”
Just as the Son of God became a man of flesh and blood through Mary, he used the material things of our world as means of salvation: water, wine, oil and bread. The water we bathe in, the water we drink, the water that is the main component of our bodies — every drop of water connects us with the water in which Jesus was baptized.
In Jesus’s baptism all water has forever been blessed. In a sense the annual blessing at Theophany is not needed. In blessing what is already blessed, the Church is simply revealing the true nature and destiny of water, and therefore the sacramental nature of all creation. “By being restored through the blessing to its proper function,” wrote Father Alexander Schmemann, “‘holy water’ is revealed as the true, full, adequate water, and matter becomes again a means of communion with and knowledge of God.”
I recall a story about water that I heard over lunch one day at the Monastery of the Protection of the Mother of God in Kiev. At the request of a Jewish neighbor with an eye disease, a woman had walked to a distant monastery to fetch water from a famous spring associated with miracles. “It was a hot day,” said Father Timothy, the monastery’s chaplain. “On the way back the woman became so thirsty she drank all the water she was carrying. When she returned home, she filled the empty bottle from the tap and gave this to her sick neighbor. It was just ordinary tap water, but the neighbor’s eyes were healed. Why? Because she had faith that this was holy water. You see, all water is holy. All water comes from the River Jordan.”
