Originally the moated castle was used as a shelter and workshop for the dockers, who carried out the maintenance and repair of the hydraulic storage winches. They were called Windenwächter or Windenwächter and had - in addition to other technical personnel - the privilege to live in the Speicherstadt.
The winches were an important component of the storage buildings: there were - and still are today - no freight elevators. All goods were drawn with winches on the outside to the facades to or from the storage floors of the store.
The spare parts required for the maintenance work, some of them heavy, could be transported from here over the roads and canals. On the waterway over two cranes on the east side of the building, on land over an old paved road that leads directly into the building and ends behind the large double doors of the water castle.
Nowadays the building is used commercially. On the ground floor there is a commercial space for tea trade with attached gastronomy. On the first floor, a provider of oxygen therapy is located. Because of its location and architecture, it also served as a backdrop for television productions, such as the TV series "Die Pfefferkörner".
The Wasserschlösschen also trades under the name "Außenentraustelle" of the registry office Hamburg-Mitte.

For Macro Mondays: "Small and Smaller" theme, it's a demonstration board from Universal Instruments Corp. that I've had for many years. The company builds automated machines for placing and attaching components--both small and smaller--to circuit boards.
The image measures just 1 5/8-inch on the long side.

The Taj Mahl "crown of palaces",is a white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage".
Taj Mahal is regarded by many as the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian and Indian architectural styles.
In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it is actually an integrated complex of structures. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen. The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision, including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Lahauri is generally considered to be the principal designer.
It’s Christmas day and the scrappers working in Wisconsin Central’s Shops Yard locomotive facility at North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, are home with their families enjoying the holiday. In the foreground, torched hoods sit on the ground, and the prime movers, generators and other engineroom components already gone from the locomotives. The job isn’t done yet, but the fate of these three former Soo Line GP30s is sealed as WC Nos. 709, 717 and 718 are not much more than scrap metal on December 25, 1994.

Ich war fasziniert von den korkenzieherartigen Ranken dieser Pflanze. Interessant, was man herausfinden kann...
I was fascinated by the corkscrew-like tendrils of this plant. Interesting what you can find out ...
When ripe, the red or black berries of the red and the white bryony are very poisonous: 15 of them can be fatal to a child. All other components of the plant, roots, tendrils and leaves are also poisonous. Rubbing the berries on the skin causes skin irritation and blistering.

Weather Can Change Rapidly in the Northern Adriatic and Especially at Cape Kamenjak Where the Winds Easily Swell the Sea whose Waters Are Deep up to the Shore
After Bora wind and cold and a couple of sunny days, an Atlantic front is preceded by southern currents that channel into the Adriatic Sea.
Thus the other recurring wind of these areas is generated, which is the Jugo (Scirocco in Italian) coming from the S/E or S/SE.
It is a wind originating from opposite currents to those that activate the bora, it is a matter of humid and mild Mediterranean or North African air masses.
What the two winds have in common is that the Jugo also has an orographic component, felt in a particular way along the Croatian coast on the mainland which from Dalmatia goes up towards the Kvarner, with characteristics that at times recall the bora as the currents are channeled between the dinaric gates the sea channels and the islands, thus generating not only an isobaric winds, whose direction of origin is generally varied (following the disposition of the isobars which are constantly changing), but also orographic, therefore falling from the Dinaric Alps with a fixed direction with irregular and drying gusts, which are, sometimes, strong and rabid, being able to reach 90/100kmph, exceptionally 120kmph, in some areas, especially along the Velebitski Kanal/Velebit Channel and, less accentuated, in Kvarnerić, between Otok Cres and Otok Krk.
It is therefore a recurring wind and for this reason it has a name, while the winds caused only by LP isobars, however continuous and intense, often change direction and are therefore defined only according to the quadrant of the wind rose from which they temporarily come.
In this case/shot the southern currents were not very intense and the wind was only moderate, generating normal waves for this area, i.e. about 2/2.5 meters in height, but in case of stormy situations (with very narrow isobars, as in the storm of Jugo/Scirocco of 29 October 2018) the waves on this cape can reach 6/7 meters in height, taking along the entire Adriatic from South to North for hundreds of kilometers and resulting in the place where the waves are most highest of all the small Adriatic.
Furthermore, Cape Kamenjak is quite distant from the islands and the Dalmatian coast, therefore the coastal orographic effects are felt much less and more the isobaric ones with the direction of origin more often oriented from S/SE instead of S/E, although this is also a form of channeling, i.e. the currents are channeled into the Adriatic, as if it were a wide channel and the Adriatic has an axis from S/SE towards N/NW, the resulting wind is therefore continuous and humid, sometimes with high average speeds, but without significant gusts, favoring regular swell.
The recurring wind from S/E or S/SE which mainly affects the central-northern Adriatic is a partially isobaric and partially orographic wind, this means that almost all the Atlantic perturbations that approach these areas activate (almost always) the jugo and much more rarely winds from the full South or South-West, which are only isobaric and therefore of short duration and non-recurring, generally present when the front passes and the isobars bend towards the west.

In this shot of Copper Island, the cloud I saw from a distance plays a major part. As it was forming I raced to a familiar spot to catch it at just the right time. Copper Island is left as a silhouette, and makes the shot more about shapes than the nature it captures.

The original photo was of the walkway along the Kennebec River in Augusta, Maine. The walkway was converted from a railway route that went from Augusta to Gardiner and is very scenic, especially in the Fall.
Photofox Cloud Wanderer components were used to create this image. Philip Jose Farmer's "Tiers" science fiction series has a world in which the natural laws allow "land tsunamis" to happen. That was my inspiration for this creation.

From Wikipedia:
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is an American national park that conserves an area of large sand dunes up to 750 feet (229 m) tall on the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley, and an adjacent national preserve in the Sangre de Cristo Range, in south-central Colorado, United States.
The park contains the tallest sand dunes in North America. The dunes cover an area of about 30 sq mi (78 km2) and are estimated to contain over 1.2 cubic miles (5 billion cubic metres) of sand. Sediments from the surrounding mountains filled the valley over geologic time periods. After lakes within the valley receded, exposed sand was blown by the predominant southwest winds toward the Sangre de Cristos, eventually forming the dunefield over an estimated tens of thousands of years. The four primary components of the Great Sand Dunes system are the mountain watershed, the dunefield, the sand sheet, and the sabkha. Ecosystems within the mountain watershed include alpine tundra, subalpine forests, montane woodlands, and riparian zones.

Icon of speed and beauty in 1. Designed specifically to win the Le Mans 24-hour race, the slippery D-Type was produced by Jaguar Cars Ltd. between 1954 and 1957. Sharing the straight-6 XK engine and many mechanical components with its C-Type predecessor, its structure however was radically different. ... D-Types won Le Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957, The high point was '57 when they finished 1rst, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th.......kindly letting a Ferrari slip in at 5th. And these were all private entries, as Jaguar had ceased factory racing. Amazing car in every mechanical and ascetic way!!

Another shot just after dawn from my shoot last sunday dawn. The light just after dawn gave rise to some lovely coloration of the the southern and western clouds opposite the sun. I was fortunate enough to find some interesting rocks in shape and colour to take them as foreground interest. Behind the rocks is the boat ramp down there which I intend on visiting for some more shots this weekend maybe.
The image is also an exposure blend of two exposures for sky and water with some photomatix components on the rocks.
