La structure de 80 mètres de long sur 16 mètres de haut, est composée de quelque 35.000 planches en bois de toutes les couleurs.
L'oeuvre monumentale éphémère d'Arne Quinze " The Passenger", érigée tout près de la Grand-Place de Mons en ouverture du projet culturel "Mons 2015, Capitale européenne de la Culture" a été entièrement démontée à partir du 12 avril 2021.
"Pour l'artiste, le vide créé par l'oeuvre une fois enlevée fait partie intégrante de sa démarche artistique", a indiqué la Fondation Mons 2025. "Le vide est comme un point de départ d'une nouvelle façon de penser à la manière de rendre nos espaces publics plus diversifiés". Comme annoncé lors de sa conception, les composants de "The Passenger" seront recyclés: le bois utilisé dans la structure sera transformé en pâte à papier et les vis seront récupérées.
The structure, 80 meters long and 16 meters high, is made up of some 35,000 wooden planks of all colors.
The ephemeral monumental work of Arne Quinze "The Passenger", erected near the Grand-Place in Mons at the opening of the cultural project "Mons 2015, European Capital of Culture" has been completely dismantled from April 12, 2021.
"For the artist, the void created by the work once removed is an integral part of his artistic approach," said the Mons 2025 Foundation. "The void is like a starting point for a new way of thinking about the way of making our public spaces more diversified ". As announced during its design, the components of "The Passenger" will be recycled: the wood used in the structure will be transformed into paper pulp and the screws will be recovered.

This image was created from multiple exposures blended together in Photoshop CS6 layers using the "Lighten" blend mode. All exposures were taken with a single Paul C. Buff Einstein strobe with a 22" beauty dish attached to a Elinchrom boom arm. In this shot of Copper Island, the cloud I saw from a distance plays a major part. As it was forming I raced to a familiar spot to catch it at just the right time. Copper Island is left as a silhouette, and makes the shot more about shapes than the nature it captures.

Sat beneath the lights at Koksijde AB during the Belgian air component's Sea King retirement spotters day.
The Mk.48 Sea King has seen service with the Belgian Air Component since 1976 and has always been operated by 40 Squadron at Koksijde on the North Sea coast. 3 of these venerable helicopters remain in service in the SAR role with this airframe, RS02, slated to be the next to retire from service ahead of retirement in March 2019 and the role of SAR by the Belgian forces falling to the NHIndustries NH90.

The third component of positive freedom in Timothy Snyder's new book "On Freedom" is Mobility. Originally in America, this was perhaps about moving to the frontier, as the country expanded, and having the ability to build one's own life in new places. After the frontier closed, mobility in America became more about social mobility, the ability to move up the socioeconomic ladder and join the middle class. Increasing wealth inequality leads to less ability to do so; the ability to be mobile is a critical part of positive freedom.
My third entry for Polaroid Week represents Mobility with the addition of a motion blur filter from the Polaroid Spectra family of cameras, part of the Special Effects Filters package. I placed this over the lens of my Mint SLR-670X with I-Type support as I shot a portrait using Polaroid Retinex film.

The Tennessee Theater/Burwell Building is a building complex of three inter-related components under single ownership: the Tennessee Theater, a 1928 presentation of a "Moorish Movie Palace" style theater; the Burwell Building (originally built as the Knoxville Banking and Trust Company Building), a ten story plus mezzanine & basement Second Renaissance Revival office building; and two very small commercial structures sandwiched between a portion of the theater & office building. Located on what has been described for many years as the 100% corner of Downtown Knoxville, the Burwell Building/Tennessee Theater has been a landmark structure since the construction of each portion of the complex. The complex is significant architecturally both for the design of the theater and the office building. The office building, built primarily in 1907, was the tallest building in Downtown Knoxville at the time of its construction, and is both the only building built in Knoxville by the architectural firm of Richards, McCarty, and Bulford (of Columbus, Ohio) and also the only remaining building in this particular mode of Second Renaissance Revival in Knoxville. The theater, built in 1928, is the only movie palace ever built in Knoxville, and is one of only four remaining in the entire state of Tennessee. Designed by the firm of Graven and Mayger of Chicago, Illinois (who were originally with the premier movie palace architects Rapp and Rapp), the theater is also unusual for movie palace architecture due to the oval shape of the auditorium, resulting in a very shallow house for its size. Both the theater and office building were built by the George A. Fuller Construction Company of New York, NY.
On April 1, 1982, the Tennessee Theater/Burwell Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) for its architecture and history in Knoxville, Tennessee.
